I am interested in purchasing a USB wireless modem for my laptop. I found this one (CNet CQU-906 Wireless-N PicoUSB Dongle) on your web site which appears to have the IEEE 802.11b/g/n compatability, however, the word "Dongle" in the description has me confused. I understand a "Dongle" to be a device used to inhibit software piracy and has no logical relation to a wireless IEEE 802.11b/g/n modem. Is this an attempt to just sound "tecki" or is there something I need to know about this "Dongle"?

    • A. A Dongle is any device that connects to a USB port that is used to connect to something else. I have a Bluetooth dongle in addition to the wireless dongle.

    • A. It's not a dongle which as you describe is used to license software. It is a usb wireless modem and it works great. Amazingly well given the small size.

    • A. I think dongle refers to it compact size myself, because mine works just like any wireless adapter, it's just very small. It comes with software for setup (which you always install first before plugging in the adapter. It will also come with a very small CD...but it will play find in any CDrom drive.

    • A. The term "dongle" was originally used to refer only to software-protection dongles; however, currently "dongle" is often used to refer to any small piece of hardware that plugs into a computer. I took that directly from wikipedia.

    • A. Gatoraid, I purchsed 4 of the CNet CQU-906 Wireless-N PicoUSB Dongle and I think you are right it is just to sound tecki. However, my understanding is that dongle is sometimes used to refer to something that plugs into a computer to extend its connection. As in a cell phone dongle. But any definition on the internet was exactly as you stated it. Saying that, this device has not inhibited me from using any software on the four computers I have it installed.

    • A. No idea why "dongle" is used to describe this - I am not a techie, so I wasn't aware of any other definition for "dongle"(I've always heard it used in relation to connecting hardware in a wireless enviroment). This item is a wireless modem & works great. Very small & while I use mine on a desktop PC - I would think it's size would make it a real plus for laptop use. For the price - you can't beat it.

I'm wanting to hook this up to my desktop. I have a wireless router that's hooked up to my modum, for my laptop. I'm wanting to hook up my desktop to wireless, instead of plugging it in directly to my modum. Will CNet CQU-906 Wireless-N PicoUSB Dongle make that possible?

    • A. If you want wireless, you need a wireless router, or a hot spot. You don't need the CQU-906 for your laptop, since it is wi-fi enabled. This product will allow you to get your signal wirelessly to your desktop, and do away with the ethernet cable. But you will still need a wireless signal from somewhere.

    • A. To get internet through a wi-fi enabled device, you must have a wireless router. You can get a wireless router through your dsl provider. If you do not have a wireless network, you cannot use a wireless (wifi) device. You can still connect to the internet, but you would have to connect the wire from your dsl to your laptop.

    • A. This item is just a wireless connection. If your laptop is already wireless enabled you do not need this, but you do need a wireless router to connect to through your dsl modem to the internet if you do not have one yet. This item is if your laptop is not already wireless capable.

Wow I can not believe it. I am 50 feet away from my wireless router and 3 stucco walls in between, and I get all bars. I had a 100 dollar wireless card and did not get this kind of connection. This thing is amazing.

I was very skeptical when I opened the box and saw the tiny dongle. I was scared that it would not work. I installed the driver and plugged in the dongle and it works great. I prefer this over the big stick wireless usb. It is much faster than the last usb wireless i bought and I spent 35 dollars less. I would buy one again.

I was very fearfull of this product, because it was small and cheap. But I have to tell you, this CNet CQU-906 Wireless-N PicoUSB Dongle works better than I expected. Don't let the small size fool you. It was easy to install and I had NO PROBLEMS installing the driver and software. I was up and running, on the Internet, in no time. Just follow the instuctions and you'll be fine. Great product.

First I installed the software like the instructions said, and then inserted the Dongle in a USB port. My computer refused to recognize and apply the drivers that had already been installed. So, I uninstalled the software and again inserted the Dongle in a USB port. This time my computer recognized the device and installed the correct drivers. Windows configured the device (zero config) and prompted for my routers wireless key. Connection was quick and easy. That method is certainly not recommended, but it worked for me. The speed is listed as 65.0 Mbps. My PC is in the same room as my NetGear wireless router, so the excellent signal strength is as expected. It was a "no fuss - no drama" connection! Couldn't ask for anything more LOL.
