Brute 22" Mulch/Bag/Side Discharge Rear Wheel Drive Electric Start Gas-Powered Lawn Mower 4.5 5 5 6
Lots of features for the price, works well too! Ordered the mower online on a Tuesday and got it on a Friday. Good job Walmart! Easy to assemble out of the box. Just unfold the handle and tighten it and you're ready to go. Added gas, pulled the string once and it fired up! Love the little fuel stabilizer you snap into the gas cap. Should save the engine from our ethanol laced gas. No primer pump. Has started first time, every time so far, maybe 20 times. Engine is powerful and quiet. Cuts through the long stuff easily. Love the one lever height adjustment. What a great innovation. BTW-rear wheel drive is the way to go. Had a front drive Poulan that got stolen, big difference. Easy to control the pace with the right handed grip. Actually goes a little to fast on a slight downhill slope! Cuts well. So, a few minor quibbles. After I figured out how to charge the darn thing it starts right up with one turn of the key. However, when you unplug the battery from the charger you have to replug it into the wiring harness. I think my wires are twisted, just a little hassle twisting the wires so they match up when you plug them together. Very minor thing. The port for attaching a garden hose is a good idea. My Poulan had one too. However, the Brute's port is to close to the engine and you almost have to crimp the hose to screw it in. If that hose port was just maybe an inch or two away from the engine like my Poulan it would be much easier to screw in the hose (you'll see, not a deal breaker, just irratating). Finally, the right handed speed control grip is easy and comfortable to use if you're right handed, but if you're not it could be a little difficult for lefties. More importantly, my Poulan and my Toro personal pace before it had a speed control bar. Much better design and much easier to control the speed of the mower when you're making turns. With a right handed lever when you're making tight left turns close to bushes, fences, house, etc., you have to let go of the lever to make the turn and the mower slows down or stops. Again, not a huge deal and easy to overcome, but the speed bar all the way across is a better design. Good thing about the Brute is that it rolls very easily without the power. It's either lighter or more well balanced than my previous two mowers. Whatever it is, it rolls very easily without power which makes it a breeze to manuver. Overall, the Brute is a better machine than my previous two self propelled electric start mowers, so I would highly recommend it to any potential buyer, but you can't borrow mine! 04/10/2012
Great so far! I got this mower a few weeks ago and had a chance to mow the lawn finally. Set up was a breeze with no issues, just follow the simple directions. The battery was dead and needed to be charged for 48hrs (thats right no less). It pull started instantly with little effort and ran great. It takes right off at a nice pace. I like excercise and it was pleanty fast for me. It is very light and easily moved around in tight spaces. the trigger speed control is comfortable and I prefer it over the bar. I wish they would make a rear wheel drive high wheel mower, it would be a lot smoother over bumps. The little wheels tend to be bouncy going over small holes in the yard. It is a minor issue for me though. Well worth the money...but time will reveal the truth. 04/17/2012
seems to be a good product HAVE ALWAYS TRUSTED BRIGGS AND STRATON ENGINES, AND THIS ONE SEEMS TO BE JUST AS TRUSTWORTHY!!! HAVEN'T USED IT THAT MUCH YET, BUT THE ONLY FAULT I HAVE FOUND IS THAT THE SELF-PROPELLED DRIVE DOES NOT WORK WELL AT ALL ON UP-HILL SLOPES. OF COURSE, THE OWNER'S MANUAL IS QUITE CLEAR ABOUT HOW TO USE THE SELF-PROPELLED DRIVE, SO IF THE DIRECTIONS ARE FOLLOWED, IT IS A LITTLE INCONVENIENT. I HAVE OWNED OTHER SELF-PROPELLED MOWERS IN THE PAST AND THEY WEREN'T ALL THAT GREAT ON SLOPES EITHER. USE THIS ONE RIGHT AND IT WILL DO THE JOB WELL. GOOD POWER BUT NO CHANGE IN THE SPEED OF THE ENGINE THAT I HAVE FOUND!!! CUTS GREAT AND 9 CUTTING HEIGHTS GIVE GREAT CHOICES!!! GOOD MOWER FOR SURE!!! 05/17/2012
Mower has some design problems. I have had this mower for about 2 year. I started having problems with the mower scalping the yard, I found that the rod between the rear wheels and the front wheels was bent more then when I bought the mower letting the front of the mower to be much lower in the front. This is a bad design as if you bend a rod it looses strenght. It would also be a great inprovment it the battery would charge when the mower was running. The charger is good but not much help when you don't have power in the shed you store the mower in. Other then these issues the mower works great. 05/11/2012
