I am far from an expert seamstress, but this machine is amazingly simple to use. My 40+year old Singer Touch & Sew finally gave up the ghost. This machine is so much lighter and has so very many more features. Of course there is a lot less metal, mostly plastic, but actually it seems reasonably durable. Of course only have used a few days now. The auto threader is wonderful and easy. Such a difference from the "old school". Have tried a few of the decorative stitches, they are fun! Anxious to try button hole. Surprised a few feet were plastic, but that is the way things are made now. Mostly getting used to things being in different places after 40 yrs :). The free arm is very handy, never had before. Material slipped a little at start when mending heavy canvass pillow. There is an optional foot for thicker materials I may consider. However with a little pulling, the job got done. Mostly I use for mending, altering and craft projects.

I absolutely love this sewing machine. It is easy to use. Very beginner friendly. I never even used a sewing machine before. The instructions are very straight forward. I have had this machine for about two month now and I am sewing like a pro. I also like that the threading instructions are not only in a booklet form but are painted on the the machine itself. I love this product and would defiantly recommend to others.

I am an avid quilter and needed a newer machine to just sew the quilt pieces together. This does everything I need and more. I was surprised that the feed dogs didn't drop. The button hole foot was ok, great selection of presser feet. Overall very good machine for the money!

    • You can hold a lever down to stitch in reverse, such as for back-stitching. It has a dial to adjust the width for zigzag (and presumable other stitches as well, but I have not tried them).

    • The lever in front above the needle is your reverse or back up lever, and the stitch length is on the top right - larger number larger stitch. The dial just to left is the width stitch - ie will make the zig-zag wider as the numbers progress larger.

    • This machine is fairly light but it does NOT have a case. It does come with a book and is really easy to use. This is my first sewing machine and my first time sewing on a machine and I found it very easy. it comes with quite a few accessories. I guess the accessories very so you'd have to refer to the box or the item description on the web site but I am definitely very pleased.
