I had misplaced an old formula for cleaning a coffee pot using a diluted solution of vinegar. I happened to be on Walmart's website and saw this product and ordered same. As soon as it arrived, I read the instructions and put it to work. As a "test" I put a coffee filter into the basket to see just how much junk I would collect as I couldn't even remember when I had cleaned the coffee brewer. After mixing the solution, and that is key, the powder MUST be mixed into a clear solution (and no solid chunks of the product can be poured into the coffee maker as they will block the lines,) the clear solution is then poured into the maker and "brewed." My coffee filter bottom was lined with all kinds of crud. It was obvious this product worked as promised and it was so easy I won't wait so long to clean out the pot again. Last note: to finish the process, run three more clean water brews to clear the coffee maker of any lingering product, and I recall I did that with the vinegar solution as well so it isn't adding work. Good stuff.

Our coffee maker was slowing down, found vinagar wasn't haviing much effect except stinking up the whole house! This works to clean out the coffee maker and speed up the brewing process. Follow the instructions and run 2 or 3 pots of water though after you use the Brew Right you will see the the particles that flushed out. The coffee taste better and brews faster.

For the first 70 years of my life I drank coffee for caffeine. One cup.. add the milk, and go like a hungry coyote. Take a brand new coffee machine and run this stuff through it, and it will taste better. Take you home coffee machine and run it through it, and it will taste a LOT better. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS. Do it twice, and the first time, stop the process about half way through, and let it set for a half hour.. then finish it. DO IT AGAIN.. half way, stop it for a bit and then finish it off. AT THAT POINT... clean the dickens out of the coffee pot, the thing you put the grounds in, the water reservoir and the nozzle that puts the water on the coffee. Coffee really tastes good without the old and bitter stuff on the heating element. I drank to much, and wound up needing decaf, but even the decaf tasted good. You wind up with a coffee you savor rather than slug down.

I bought this because of a coffee maker at work hadn't been cleaned out in ages and was making bad tasting coffee. I followed the mixing directions except I turned off the machine halfway thru to let the solution soak for about half an hour. Then turned it back on and let it finish the cycle. The second rinse flushed out all the white calcium buildup flakes and it was disgusting to know we were drinking out of that machine! Coffee now tastes much better and the machine brews a lot quicker! Everyone needs to buy this product to keep their coffee tasty!

I couldn't find Brew Rite in the local store so I ordered it on-line. It must have been somewhere ambiguous in the store because an hour later I received an email that my order was ready! Other than that, this stuff is a miracle. I know the basic ingredient is sodium bicarbonate but how ever they formulated it, the pots came out sparkling, I mean SPARKLING clean and bright! One note, be careful if you put this in a commercial unit. I tried cleaning out a Bunn VPR commercial unit and it took about 15 full pitchers of water before the water finally came clear. I've used vinegar, salt & ice, lemon juice, etc. in the pitchers but nothing really got them clean. I use vinegar in the brewer once a month and so it wasn't really dirty but I put 4 TBS of Brew Rite in a 64 oz. pitcher and got quite a lot of specks out of the unit. Just be careful to rinse and rinse again the next day before making coffee. Otherwise it won't taste very good.

    • A. measure the actual ounces of water in a full reservoir for your pot (in a measuring cup). Divide your answer by 32 (4 cups). That answer times 1 tablespoon. On my pot, the 12 serving indicator meant nothing. My 12 serving reservoir actually only held 57 ounces of water = 1.78 (divided by 32 ounces or 4 cups), so I used 1 3/4 tablespoons of product. Worked just fine.

    • A. Use three light table spoons on the first clean, and then two light table spoons on the second cleaning. When you finish with the cleaning, make sure you use a soft sort of brush, and clean the pot you used to do the solution, the coffee basket, those nozzles that spray the water on the coffee. THEN.. run two clear water pots through. It really makes a difference.

    • A. I don't know what it is made of, but is just HAS to be some kind of corrosive. When it says "run three clear pots of water..." well, I think they are telling you something pal. RUN THREE CLEAR POTS OF WATER. You should not be ingesting any of this crud is my take on it. But don't take it from me. Call the company. There must be company ID on the bottle somewhere. (I am in my great room, away from my kitchen...take a look and ask!) This can't be good for you. Good luck and check your life insurance! (joke)

    • A. I don't know. I have done something like that.. but I did the second rinse, and it didn't bother me. The coffee tasts far, far better if you hook a hose up to your sink and thoroughly rinse it before you use it. I think it says.. two rinses, but in any case, it is an excellent product.
