Rated 2 out of 5 by snwbird mediocre product I've used several breadmakers and this one is definitely among the lowest quality. I was in a position of needing to immediately replace one, and I bought this one primarily because of the price and the good reviews. That was about 10 months ago, and it worked great for the first 6 months...no complaints and consistent with the other reviews posted. Perhaps my expectations are not realistic, but based upon previous breadmakers, I expected to get at least a few years out of this one. I usually make a 2 lb loaf every other day, as well as several dough cycles a week. The mechanism for the kneading blade appears to be grinding away underneath the bread pan and inside the unit itself...bits of metal in the kneading unit. It makes a terrible racket & walks all over the counter, which usually means the dough needs more water, but the bread ball is fine and adding more water just results in even worse bread than without....which is my next problem. I've been successfully making whole wheat bread for years, but this breadmaker consistently produces dense and heavy loaves, despite careful measurements & using the correct ingredients, including vital wheat gluten. The instruction booklet's recipes are very different from my previous breadmakers' recipes, but I followed them anyway. One reviewer mentioned that this is not a "set and forget" unit, and that's so true...I have to watch it continually, scraping the flour from the sides and checking the bread ball for consistentcy. My advice is to spend another $20 and buy a unit that is dependable and durable for several years rather than replacing it 10-12 months. 01/26/2010
Rated 4 out of 5 by SLancaster Good Product for the Money I have had this for a couple of months & have used it a few times. It seems to work well. I mad banana bread in it once...it turned out well, but the recipe was from their book & it didn't taste enough like bananas. The book says you can bake bread mixes (like banana bread) or even cakes mixes in it, so that is pretty cool.I have also made pizza dough in it & it turned out well.Overall, this product is very convenient, I would never make bread on my own. It has all the features I need.My only complaint is that you cannot wash the pan in the dishwasher. 07/10/2009
Rated 5 out of 5 by Widget Breadman TR520 This is my third breadmaker in 15 years and I love it. The horizontal loaf is about the same size as a loaf/bread pan you'd use in the oven. It's easy to use right out of the box by following the simple directions for selecting your settings. If you're searching for a nice but uncomplicated unit, this one is definitely worth a try. 02/03/2009
Rated 5 out of 5 by prulfy Can't make enough This was the best Christmas gift I got this year. My family thinks so too. Every time I make bread with it they start hovering around the kitchen and hardly let the bread cool before they devour it.I also like that it comes with a lot of recipes to try for each of the settings in various loaf sizes.I've used it at least once every day since I got it. 01/07/2008
