Excellent entry level detector I've been metal detecting for over 30 years, and as entry level units go this is one of the best. It has enough controls to allow hunting in all different settings, and a decent depth ability. BUT you need to read the instructions and practice with it. Test it on different items (gold, silver, coins, jewelry, bullets, nails, pull tabs, etc) so you can learn the various beep tones that indicate different types of metals AND so you can adjust the control knobs to screen out unwanted readings. It should be noted that in ALL METAL mode it's depth of detection is increased dramatically but there is no discrimination of metal type, so you have to dig everything. However, I've used a number of expensive machines (and have a Cortes and a Garrett AT) and they don't discriminate much better than my Tracker II's. Anyway, it's a good way to start learning how to detect and it makes a great backup unit if you decide to graduate to a higher end detector with advanced settings, lcd readout and interchangeable coils. 11/27/2011
for those who want to buy this to start out at an beach would be ok. but if you trying to find something u lost or looking for treasure then this is not an good item to purchase it. The reason why i say so is bc it doesn't go but mabe 4 to 7 inch deep. 09/04/2011
