The heater is working perfectly. Was easy to install (save for having to empty/refill the water bed). Much nicer to jump into a nicely heated bed on those cold, cold, nights! :)

I love the Blue Magic waterbed heater. I was amazed at how quickly it warmed the bed after it was filled the first time. It has since kept it at a proper temp.

In a review of this heater about a week ago, I said that I would not recommend it due to the fact that it kept tripping the circuit breaker when I turned it on. After purchasing another brand heater (Calesco), and plugging it in, it too tripped the breaker. I then plugged it into a different outlet, utilizing an extension cord, and it did not trip the breaker. Therefore, the problem with the Blue Magic heater wasn't the fault of the heater; there must be something wrong with the wall outlet and not the heater itself that caused the breaker to trip. In comparing the two, I wish I had kept the Blue Magic Heater since it is a better heater. Where the Blue Magic heater gives actual temperature settings, the Calesco only has L, M, and H settings with increments in between. In addition, the Blue Magic heater has a cord to the heater pad and temperature sensor that the Calesco heater does not.

    • We have the free flow mattress also, and that is what this heater is rated for. Also love the fact that it has a longer power cord so we don't have to hook it up to a surge protector to plug in.

    • It is for hard-side only. You need a low-watt model for a soft sided waterbed.

    • I have had my Cal_King since early 80's. It is the vinyl bladder surrounded by a wood frame. This Hi-Watt should be perfect for your bed if it has the wood frame. The low watt is for the type that does not have a wood frame containing a vinyl bladder and would not maintain comfortable level of heat for the wood framed (hard-sided) waterbed.

    • Yes, works great. Just remember to put under the liner, and the heat sensor about a foot away from the pad.

    • Yes, we have a king size waterbed and we had to keep setting the temp down a notch as it was so warm.

sorry for my ignorance ... what is the difference between a softside and a hardside, other than one is hard and one is soft. i've been sleeping on a waterbed since 1970 ... it's just a large 'bag' with water in it ... is that considered a softside? .. i'm not familiar with a hardside one ... thanks!
    by donnap27 5/4/2012
    • Hardside waterbeds have the water bladder inside a wood frame. Softside Waterbeds have the water bladder inside foam tray covered by mattress cover. They look like a regular mattress and regular sheets can be used.

    • a hardside water bed is what it has with how you decribed it. a soft sided water bed looks like a mattress. it normally has tubes that are filled with water.

    • If you have a wood frame they usually consider it a hardside.

    • The hard side is the original style from the 70s using wood to hold the bag (matress) in the bed.

    • As i understand it, a hard side is a mattress within a wooden frame. I think that's what you have. A soft side is a mattress that looks a lot like the tradiitonal spring mattresses. As a cloth cover and usually has no waves.
