BlackBerry PlayBook 64GB GE8034 7.0" 1GHz BlackBerry Tablet OS 4.8 5 8 9
Awesome tablet This is not an iPad wannabe, so if it's an iPad you're after, just get an iPad. This tablet stands on its own, especially if you own a BlackBerry phone. The bridge is a fantastic tool that doesn't get the attention it deserves. The display on the PlayBook is one of the best you'll see on a tab. The 7" size is perfect. Don't listen to the negative reviews ... check this tablet out for yourself. 12/25/2011
This my 5th Playbook purchase I bought this tablet at its intitial launch in April 2011. It exceeded my expectations in quality and smoothness in operation and subsequently have purchased three more for Christmas and birthday gifts. The screen is spectactular on this thing. I plug this into my HD TV via HDMI and do everything from watch movies to surf the web. I've taken beautiful video (1080p) and beautiful pictures with it. There are lots of great apps available. The size is perfect- it goes everywhere with me. You can tether it to a PDA or if like me you have a Blackberry phone you can use the bridge app and connect your phone to get access to the web anywhere there isn't WiFi available. Once you turn it on for the first time, you never use the power button. Turn it on and off by a touch. There soon will be an update to the operating system which will make this thing even more powerful. The hardware is terrific. I love the fact it gets better and better and I don't have to get new hardware to have a 'new' tablet. 01/23/2012
Very underrated tablet .... I couldn't pass up the 50% off sale. $299 for the 64GB version. Plus, the 400+ positive customer reviews definitely helped make the purchase easier. The 1st couple of days I wasn't very impressed. Being an iPad 1 user since day one, the PB took time getting used to. The 4th to 5th day it started to grow on me. I now strongly believe that QNX is an amazing OS. The swipe gestures on the PB are ingenious. Truly proprietary. As others have stated I do believe that RIM rushed the PB. Not having native email and calendar is mind boggling. How could they have released the PB without two of the most important clients, especially when all BB users are known for both there email and calendar capability?Anywho, knowing that the OS 2.0 update in February of 2011 will take care of these issues is a relief and a welcome update. Also, the fact that Android apps will be running on the PB truly makes the PB the "best bang for your buck tablet", in my opinion.PROS:1. Truly portable, especially when compared to the iPad and iPad sized tablets.2. Amazing and ingenious OS (QNX). Smooth, fluid, responsive.3. Rich, bright, crisp screen. HD videos looks amazing. True 16:9 tablet.4. Surprisingly high quality camera, both front and back. Although I can't see using tablets as cameras. Front cameras I think are much more useful (video chat).5. Solid feel to the tablet. Very well built.6. Bridging your BB phone to take advantage of free tethering is ingenious and proprietary.7. Can root/hack to install Google OS (Honeycomb/Ice Cream Sandwich), to have the best of both worlds, Android and QNX.8. Great sound/speakers for a tablet. Intelligently positioned in the front.CONS:1. No native email/calendar client. (Will be fixed in OS 2.0)2. No apps in Appworld. (Will be fixed once Android apps are running on the PB after OS 2.0).Honestly, once the update rolls out, I can't think of any flaws/cons on this tablet. This is a great tablet for the sale price. I think it's well worth the $299 without the update. After the update, it's all gravy. When the new PB's come out sometime this year, rumors are they'll be 3G/4G and running on a quad core processor. I would sacrifice the built in internet and a faster processor for $300 off anyday.I carry both my PB and my iPad with me all the time. I know people always try to compare every tablet out there with the iPad, but it's an unfair comparison. It's really apples and orangesbetween the two. They're both amazing tablets in their own right. I own both to get the best of both worlds. If you're looking for a sub $300 tablet, this is the best out there. 02/12/2012
Playbook was an exceptional deal as far as price goes. Syncs up nicely with my BB Torch Phone so its just another extension of my phone. Nice to use while sitting on the couch or in bed and it comes in handy to keep the lil ones busy in stores by placing movies on it so you can shop without chasing them. 12/31/2011
