I got my sewing machine on this Thanksgiving Black Friday for this price and I'm so glad I did! I am new to sewing and I have no idea what I was doing. This machine straight from the box is assembled and easy to use! The instructional DVD that comes with it is awesome!!! It shows you the parts of your machine, how to use the foot pedal, how to thread your bobbin, how to thread your machine for sewing, how to adjust the tension of your machine ( you have to adjust the tension every time you have different fabrics and material), how to go from straight stitch to zig zag stitch, how to make your stitch wider or closer together, and how to do a reverse stitch etc. Since getting my machine I have watched so many Youtube videos! I made a cover for my sewing machine, and now I have started working on my family Christmas stockings! I thought the fabric for my stocking were going to be too thick for the machine but it wasn't! My first one turned out perfectly!!! i'm having so much fun and I can't wait to do more projects for my family!

I bought this for the Black Friday sale, & so far, so good. I've not sewn anything since high school, & being honest, those years I was way more worried about boys! So, sewing is very new to me. By the next day, after purchasing this, I had made an apron! My apron was not half bad I might add. It was easy to set up and for a starter machine, I have no regrets yet. I bought the extra 2 year replacement plan, just in case it wasn't up to par. I'm excited to sew more! Great for beginners without spending an arm and leg!

I bought this sewing machine online Black Friday and received it shipped free of charge and very quickly. It was well packed within the manufacturer's box. I played the dvd which is helpful but if you have ever used a sewing machine this one will be intuitive. The worst problem I had was wondering if I had threaded it correctly because it just seemed too simple. I folded a cheap christmas throw over and sewed it together and stuffed it for a fun dog bed within an hour of unpacking the machine to try it out, so this no-muss-no-fuss machine is worth more than I paid! I do not see any way of installing it in a sewing machine cabinet (though I could be wrong) so I will just take advantage of its portability. I does not come with a ton of accessories but enough to get started. Bobbin threading is straight-forward and easy as is everything about the machine. My puppy and I are both lovin' it.

Hi, I am looking to buy a budget sewing machine for my teenage daughter who loves to sew and make her own hats and shirts. What do I need to know when buying a budget sewing machine? Right now she uses thread and a needle . We don't have a lot of money but don't want to buy her something that would embarrass her or not do the things a sewing machine should. ( although I think she'll be thrilled with anything!# I just don't know what a machine should have # I can't sew myself).

    • Hi, worriedmommy. I happen to love my Brother machines. They are both great. I started sewing when I was six or so (I'm 33 now). I learned on a few brands and types of machines, but I've found Brother's machines to be both reliable and durable. If button holes are not an issue, this machine will easily handle anything your daughter is making right now. This machine doesn't have a specific function to make button holes, so if your teenage daughter wants to make button-down shirts, she will either have to get creative with the zigzag feature and do a work-around, take them to a seamstress, or you will need a different machine. If you can spare the extra $25, I would recommend the JX2517. It will more easily handle her growing talents! It has the automatic button hole attachment that will make them much easier. Your daughter sounds very creative! Good luck-and don't worry-she's going to be awesome! :)

    • Ive had a Brother machine for 20 years now, its lcd panel is going but the machine u are asking about does not have one to worry about and ive put many miles on my machine. You could try this one and walmart has an easy return policy. The thing to try is sew through two layers of denim and if the machine doesn't bog down then it would be a great starter, when your daughter gets into high school u could upgrade then . Have fun, I am over 50 and started sewing in 7th grade- I still love it!
