Yes; but the iron has to be unplugged to be completely off. If the iron is left on its soleplate or tipped over on its side it will shut off in 30 seconds. If it is left sitting vertically, it will shut off after 8 minutes.

No it does not. It might spit if you move it too fast

As long as you do not fill the water past the "fill" line it does not leak water also if you let the iron heat up a sec after plugging it in there is no water that leaks out of the steam holes

Never found either to be the issue for me. However, I must say if one didn't have it on the correct setting for steam this could happen in an iron like this.

To avoid spit, or leakage I would recommend not letting water set in the fill if one is not going to use a steam setting. Not everyone drains the iron after each use, so if one were to have water in the fill and using it on a lower than called for steam setting water may possibly leak. I haven't experienced this with this iron, but just knowing from years of experience in having used a classic iron like this, that would generally be the issue.

I've used this iron daily for weeks now without issue, I'll never go back to another. ;o) Hope you find this of help.

I don't have any water leaking from the steam holes when I iron and I have been using this iron for years. It does not spit water from steam holes and I use the highest temperature usually for cotton shirts.

If you overfill the iron with water, you might get a few drops of water coming out of the steam holes at the beginning. But normally it does not drip or leak water.

It has 25 holes in the sole plate. 15 are along the upper edge and half way down the sides, while the other ten are in two parallel rows of five each starting about 1/3 down for the top and parallel to the others. These holes allow the steam to escape when you are using the steam function.

i have been looking for a good old style iron that is heavy and takes out the wrinkles without having to push through the ironing board. This fits the bill to a t. wonderful i even love to iron now and that is saying something i threw 2 others away before i found this one.

I got this great iron at my local walmart yesterday and put it to the test today. 2 pr mens pants and 4 shirts. Love it!!
It is so nice to have an iron that is heavy enough to press (that is why they call it press!!) our clothes to a nice sharp look, like I used to do years again. I guess everyone has bought the idea of a 'lightweight' iron...well, I bought the idea for a while....but lightweight doesn't do the job! I'm glad black and decker went back to the classic iron. I love the grabbing the handle when ironing. feels just right.
Like the light on...green, and off....red and auto shutoff after 8 mins! Although I dislike ironing more than scrubbing the toilet, I am going to look forward to ironing just a bit now. thanks A+
