I have used this model Black and Decker iron for many years, The "Classic" has always been my favorite and when they wear out I immediately get another just like it.

Gets Hot!

I have had this iron in the past and I like it because it really heats up and gets hot, not like the newer irons. My old iron, which I wore out (I am a quilter and have the iron on A LOT) did not turn off automatically, which this one does after 8 minutes. I do not like this feature because when I am quilting, there are many times when I go longer than 8 minutes between uses. It is very frustrating to go to use the iron and it is cold and I have to wait for it to heat up again. I personally do not need the automatic turn off and am frustrated at how difficult it is to find an iron without it.

I have had this product for over a year and its excellent. I wear casual pants everyday and its great for thin material. My work pants are ironed easily (quickly)...Im never wrinkle. Other irons do not get hot enough but this does...great for jeans

The best iron ever

This is the best hot iron made since the older ones that you would just plug in and did not have the temperature option. However, Black and Decker changed the "Classic" to add the auto shut off feature, which lowered the functionality of this iron. If you have the "Classic" model that does not auto shut off, then yes you still have the BEST temperature featured iron made. I will continue to buy this iron, even though I have noticed it does not last any longer than the newer model irons. I love that the "Classic" still gets "HOT", which is a feature that I immediatly noticed was missing from the newer model auto shutoff irons, they only get slightly hot.

Does not glide, but drags across fabric

I owned one of these years ago, wore it out, bought one of the newer style irons, wore it out, then bought this style again. You could say I iron a LOT. I had better memories of this style than I am now experiencing. It drags across the fabric. It does not steam well. It does not iron out the wrinkles as well as the newer models. I don't know if this model has changed since the last one I owned like it, or if I just got used to the better performance of the newer model irons. It takes a lot more energy to move this iron across your clothes, it really seems to have a rougher sole plate, even though it looks shiny and feels smooth to touch (when cool, of course). I find it does not iron out wrinkles in cotton clothes, even on the highest setting. There is no steam boost option, and I find myself ironing over and over the same wrinkles w/o getting any improvement. Sadly, I've already discarded the packaging, or I would return it. Guess I'll store it and go get a good, new style iron.

  • A. It has 25 holes in the sole plate. 15 are along the upper edge and half way down the sides, while the other ten are in two parallel rows of five each starting about 1/3 down for the top and parallel to the others. These holes allow the steam to escape when you are using the steam function.

Most of the irons made today leaks from water tank as you move the iron back and forth. Also does it spit water from steam roles?

  • A. If you overfill the iron with water, you might get a few drops of water coming out of the steam holes at the beginning. But normally it does not drip or leak water.

  • A. Never found either to be the issue for me. However, I must say if one didn't have it on the correct setting for steam this could happen in an iron like this. To avoid spit, or leakage I would recommend not letting water set in the fill if one is not going to use a steam setting. Not everyone drains the iron after each use, so if one were to have water in the fill and using it on a lower than called for steam setting water may possibly leak. I haven't experienced this with this iron, but just knowing from years of experience in having used a classic iron like this, that would generally be the issue. I've used this iron daily for weeks now without issue, I'll never go back to another. ;o) Hope you find this of help.
