I've had this mower for the past 4 mos, and love it. I live in a small townhouse, the mower makes quick work of the lawn! I can mow, and trim the hedges in 20min.
I'm surprised at how light it is, and yet still powerful enough to handle all cutting chores. It's so good at its job, my friend is now borrowing it on a regular basis. He's gotta get his own!!
If it was only cordless, it would be PERFECT!

better than i ever expected,

I'm an older woman who lost her 'mowing man'. I'm on a fixed income, am a great-grandma who's had a few heart attacks and have artherites all through my body and I knew I needed a mower that was easy to start, light-weight, dependable and affordable. This mower is all that and MORE!. It was simple to put together, starts easily, is VERY easy to manuver and, as a Black and Decker product, is one I know I can rely on. I am very pleased with this product, and would recommend it to anybody of any age.

Does the job as intendended, great job, mows the whole yard, and keeps on working! Compared to the battery operated one it replaced, 3000% better, at least! Assembly is simple and easy - just the handle and it only takes a few minutes, tools not required. Further, it has a bag attachment and a side discharge bag is available to make yard cleanup a snap! Overall, an excellent value at 3/8 the cost of a new battery operated which requires new $100 batteries every couple of years (or more frequently) to keep going long enough to mow half a decent sized yard. Two hours including assembly and weed wacking and I was all done with the entire lot! Best yet, no overnight charges to get it done, and I didn't have to feed it oil or gas (at $2.50 per gallon - today's prices are so exorbadent, and the price of this mower is less than a gas mower with a low amperage motor). Sure, I had to go slow for some of the thicker grass, but now that I don't have to borrow the neighbor's I can keep up with the growth without excessive yard length! Simple instructions are provided for blade removal, sharpening, and balancing too. Its only downfall is the extensive cord required and the care to avoid cutting it, but to me its worth the trouble to have a mower that works - runs and cuts when I ask it to without planning ahead around weather that can't be planned for. I just recommend using a bright cord so you can readily identify and not cut it.

After 3 years of pushing our old hand mower thru the yard, my wife broke down and ordered this one from Walmart for my birthday. I guess she got tired of me complaining about the old push mower all the time. Well, after using this B&D electric mower, I don't know why we didn't order one sooner! It is a wonderful, lightweight mower that belies its true colors - it's only 6.5 amps and cuts as though it had a more powerful motor. It's easily assembled, (forget the little plastic inserts at the base of the handles, you DON'T need them), very lightweight and easy to lift, wheel height adjustment is an easy one lever affair, (lots of height settings), and general operation of this guy is truly simple and painless. All my yard tools are electric, and I've had great success with them all, plus our Kw price is low here and I save LOTS of money on fuel. Maintenance is also a piece of cake, no gas engines to maintain, (and NO difficult starting!), just a good clean up after using and they are ready to go next time. I use a 100' power cord that is medium weight, and it never gets warm pulling only 6.5 amps at full load. The only thing I notice is in heavy damp clover where the mower bogs down slightly and I have to slow down a bit, but other than that it cuts right thru the rest of my yard very easily and smoothly, leaving a nice even finished look. This mower seems well thought out but is simple and inexpensive, maybe designed by someone who spends a lot of time cutting grass who was fed up by high maintenance gas mowers or perhaps the old sweat till you drop hand push mower??

I needed a small mower to access an area of my property that the riding mower will just not fit since I enclosed it. This mower fits the bill, lightweight and easy to manuver, also very quiet I won't cut the grass before 10:00 due to the noise of the rider, with the electric mower I'm out there at 7:00 without disturbing my neighbors.Grass was very high and this mower had no ptoblem going through it, no pull down on speed, also the single lever height adjustment is great Ease of use, no gas no noise, would recommend highly for smaller areas.

I purchased one as a housewarming gift for my daughter and she loved it's light weight, easy to assemble the handles with the exception of the slide-in-cap at the bottom of the handles once you push them in the hold. The cap goes in at the top of the hole--not the bottom. It works great and great for women because it's not heavy. Wish I had order the bag. I just order one for myself since she was so happy with hers.

I just finished cutting my lawn an hour ago. However, I did it in half the time it used to take pushing that heavy tank of a lawn mower that I no longer use. You probably won't even pop a bead of sweat because of how light the thing is. This may sound a bit dramatic but it felt more like vacuuming, than the feeling I've grown accustomed to using a gas powered mower. I'll never go back.

I looked around for something that would be easy to use while my husband was deployed. I have to say that this has to be the best thing I could have gotten. This mower is lightweight, easy to manuver and easy to put together. It is very quiet too which I love, yet it still has the power I need. Shipping from walmart was fast and cheap. I've been trying to get our yard done with a push mower, but our type of grass just has not been cooperating. I do not like gas powered motors, so we decided to give an electric mower a try. I was happy our local store carried this one, and tried it the next day.

It makes very little noise compared to a gas mower, and it had enough power to mow through our admittedly troublesome lawn with little to no trouble. I managed to get areas with it that I'd previously been unable to approach without heavily weed-whacking first.

It takes a few minutes to get accustomed to managing the cord - once you have a row or two mowed, the cord is not a problem - if you can vacuum your house, you can use this mower.

It is light weight, and I was able to lift it myself into our storage unit with no trouble. It cut high grass without being bogged down, it starts with the flip of a switch, and one 100 ft cord was plenty for my 1/4 acre yard.

The height adjustment is a simple lever on the unit, and can be switched as needed almost on-the-fly (stop the mower first for safety)

If you don't want to mess around with spark plugs, pull cords and gas/oil mixtures for your lawn-care, I'd definitely recommend this to you.

I have used the mower twice now.
It would be nice if the cord holder was larger to hold 100 ft extension cord. Some type of latch to prevent the cord from coming unplugged would also be helpful. Actually this product would be excellent if it included the extension cord on the product....kind of like a vacuum cleaner with the retracting cord....that would be even better. The cord could be just pulled-out to plug it in and a switch or button to push to retract.

This product is very useful and easy to use. I do not have to worry with intense engine repairs and transporting gasoline. A 10amp extension cord works fine and does not get hot. The starting handle is located on the right side, which makes it hard to use with your left hand. It would be nice if this was longer so that it could be used with either hand or both. GREAT job mowing and lightweight!

I just got the mower this weekend and WOW its great. Its simple to put together and works very well. Its fairly light and does a great job on the lawn. The only thing is it doesn't come with a power cord which is a pain. You have to get that seperately. All in all a great buy and would definitely recommend this if you have a small to mid-size lawn.

This lawnmower is perfect! I put it together in under an hour with no tools required; it chops through thick grass; I can push it one-handed; there's no gas or oil to deal with; and most importantly, no more yanking on some starter cord over and over to get it fired up. My only recommendation is to get a bagger for it.

Exactly what I needed,

For the basic suburban lawn (with trees and obstacles, but not too many), this is ideal. In fact, the light weight of it has my wife enjoying helping me with the lawn. I hate that that sounds as sexist as it does but she actually shouted "Whee!" as she pushed it around, and she is smarter and more mature than I am.
The only problems that I've seen are 1)the plastic power-on handle (held down by hand while the mower is in motion) feels insubstantial as if it wouldn't take TOO much of a twist to break it-- I will try strapping it down with a band the next time I wheel her out-- and 2)Even when using the remarkable height-adjustment lever, this mower does not love crazy-high weeds. This is very much a machine for the regular maintenance of your yard and not for rehabilitating a lot run wild. This was exactly the machine I needed.

Purchase only if you have an open yard without scrubs, tree's, fences, which the power cord easily entangles in. The power cord needs to be purchased seperately. One would think with the investment you are making, a cheep power cord would be included. This unit definably does not have the ability to run smoothly through medium to long grass, even though there are various different height settings. The body of the unit is larger than a normal mower and rather clumsy at best, making it difficult stirring around obstacles in the yard. If you are on a limited budget and have a small yard, this maybe the unit for you. Experience with this unit for myself now justifies shelling out a bit more money the next time for a better quality mower.

I bought it online on Feb 18, 2010...exactly a month ago.
It was tricky to put together. The directions are not clear and the graphics don't make it any easier to follow.
We finally started the thing, and then another problem...adjust the cutting height is a nightmare since you have to "pull out and up" a lever on the side...well, it does not make any sense because you have to pull it so hard that it will almost bend and honestly we were affraid it would break right off.
Anyways, after that we started mowing, which was a little difficult because it gets slow where it finds taller grass.
Finally, at some point my husband let go of the handle and when he came back it would not start again. JUST LIKE THAT.
We tried several outlets, checked the plug...nothing.
We still naively thought maybe it had "overheated"...I mean, come on, we are not talking about a 1940 car engine, this is a brand new electric lawn mower! So we gave up on it that day.
This morning, we tried to start it again...guess what...it will not start.
I am taking it back. A real hassle since Sundays is the only day we have to catch up on all these things we have to do around the house, with full time jobs and taking college classes...
Very disapointed.
