Black & Decker 1/4 Sheet Finisher Sander (Model# FS540) 4 5 8 8
Wonderful Little Sander This is a great little sander. I am much more a Makita, Porter Cable kind of guy, but I researched a lot and determined this was the best sander available, price irrelevant. I have had it 4-5 years and I so far have been correct. Sander works great, dust collector even works fairly well, but the real issue is that it holds all grades of sandpaper easily and firmly. I don't use this sander real often, but when I do, it is typically for larger projects. I would still buy this sander, regardless of price. 07/10/2011
the price was right but, sometimes it will hold the sheet of paper,if you dont have them cut just rightthey come off.what im really disappointed in is the dust catcher, that is why i bought it so i wouldnt have a great big mess.Wrong! It blows dust everywhere. I put a sandwich baggy over the catcher andthat help some. 10/17/2011
Dust Collection is for Display Only Would I have purchased this item if it didn't have a dust collector? No. The truth is that there really is no dust collection - dust blows right through. Now that the room is completely dusty and I will have to clean up anyway, I will finish my current project with this sander and then give it to Goodwill.I expected better from Black & Decker. 01/30/2012
Good unit, but no dust collection This is a good little sander, minus a couple of things. It works well and I think it's a pretty good value. It does an excellent job sanding, the sand paper sheets fit well, and it holds the paper firmly, no slipping. It has a good grip and can be use for extended periods without hand fatigue. It sits really flat too. That's important to some of my projects. The two things I don't like: 1. The ON/OFF switch quit working only after a few hours of use. I returned it to the store and got another one (no problem). The second sander is working fine. I'm sure I got a bum unit, but it was very frustrating. 2. I bought this sander because it has a dust collector, and it even comes with a device to punch holes in the paper to collect dust. However, the dust collector is useless. It does absolutely nothing to collect dust. You might be able to make it work if you hook a separate vacuum unit to the sander. But, even with it's drawbacks, if you are looking for an economical sander that gets the job done (and you don't mind dust), this is a good choice. I give it 4 stars because the good things about it are really good. 11/07/2011
