I replaced an existing Bissell Carpet Cleaner that was over 10 years old. It had been unevenly distributing cleaning solution. The new one has been picking it up well, and overall is easier to use than the old one (easier to push, buttons on front are in a better location than on the back of the unit like the old one).

We were amazed at how well this product worked for a non-commercial machine. The amount of dirt and dog hair it got out of our carpet was amazing. With the hot air blower, it sped up drying significantly. Bigger water and detergent tanks would be helpful, less stopping to refill, but overall very very pleased with our purchase. We have already recommended it to our friends,

First time owner of a carpet cleaner. Have cleaned eleven rooms of carpet with it, with no problems at all. Carpets clean well and dry very fast (1 -2 hours). Cleaning stairs (with the attachments) is a little tricky, but does a fairly good job once you figure it out (longer drying time) . Have not used on furniture. Cleaner does require some disassembly for cleanup, but not too big a job. Like it a lot, and would recommend.

    • the dirt and grime end up in a holding tank which you have to poor out with the mixture of water

    • No it is meant for cleaning carpets not just regular vacuuming. If some dirt is left in the carpets after vacuuming it will suck it up along with the water.

    • I would say no because the only suction is a one eighth slot in front used primarily for extracting water

    • I would not recommend using this as a vaccum. There is a small strainer / filter in the tank which would probably be an issue. Plus it does not have a bag or filtration system like a vaccum does. It is designed significantly different and made to clean wet not dry.
      by JBDIY

    • No, this is not a vaccuum. There is no bag or container for dust collection.

    • I do not. I prefer using a machine specifically designed for vaccuming. Check the various Bissell other vaccum line-ups or those of brands of your choices.

    • Bissell advises vacuuming first. I don't think this machine is designed to just vacuum.

    • This is an engenious design. The fresh water is contained in a bag that deflates as the water is drawn out. The dirty water is held in the same tank, so the clean and dirty water are contained in the same space, but seperated by the heavy liner.

    • Yes A bladder inside the plastic container keeps the clean water separate from the dirty water
      by JAKE890

    • Yes. The clean water is held in a bladder inside the same compartment that the dirty water returns to. The 2 do not mix. The cleaning solution is held in a separate container and is mixed on the fly.
      by NigWad

    • Yes it does. There is only 1 tank, but the tank has a bladder inside that separates the clean water from the dirty water.
      by Glasslady2
Was this answer helpful? (1) (0)
    • yes, the bladder is the clean water compartment. Add your preferred solution mix/concentrate to the water as instructed ... It is independent of the dirty water compartment.

    • yes, it does. It actually has a bladder for the clean water and then the dirty water goes right back in the same compartment but it is around the bladder and that keeps the clean and dirty seperate.
      by cjb23
Was this answer helpful? (4) (0)
    • It has both in one compartment. there is a balloon bladder where that clear water is. and the dirty water is collected on the outside of the bladder.

how does this machine handle heavy pet hair
    by Harold196
    • To my amazement even after i had vacuumed my carpet first it still picked up a good amount of pet hair.
      by sue12

    • I had no visible pet hair and vacuumed with the Dyson DC41 before using to get as much as possible up to provide a better surface to clean and it still extracted more hair clumps but did not seem to such them up easily on the first pass. I had to rerun over them and the blower at the bottom that helps dry carpet will also help blow this clumps around.

    • I have two Pomerainians that shed and there was no problem. You just have to spen extra time cleaning out the tank and a strainer that is in the tank. I have attached a picture of one of the dogs as you can sea he is a giant fur ball!

    • I have three dogs. Need I say more. I vaccuumed prior to shampooing. The Bissell ProHeat 2X pulled more dog hair out of the carpet and left is clean and smelling fresh.

    • It worked very well. I did go over the carpet twice, simply because I wanted to make sure that I got all of it.

    • Your best bet is to clean the hair with an alternate tool. This is NOT a vacuum. The recommendation by the manufacturer is that you vacuum the area first before cleaning the carpet. This is important as the return suction duct will be clogged if there is too much debris that is not carpet dirt.

    • I have 4 dogs who live inside, and made sure to vacuum really well before using this, and it did great. The machine balled up the leftover hair and spit it out in little wads, kind of gross, but they were easy to pick up afterwards and I didn't see any hair in the carpet when I was finished cleaning it. I was pleasantly surprised with it, as I had the same question as you!

    • the rotary brushes grab most long hair. Short hairs often get mixed in the dirty water. After use and cleaning the water compartments, let it dry. Then pick the remaining hair off the brushes, similar to cleaning a hair brush or comb after uses.
