When I first used this vac after purchase, I thought "not bad". It had good suction power and it was very light weight. Easy to carry up & down the stairs which is what I was looking for. It also had a decent amount of basic accessories... easy to use & dump. THEN about 1-1/2 to 2 months after use it suddenly lost alot of its ability to pick up dirt off the floor! I had to vacuum over the same spot a dozen times to clean it! The dirt wasnt getting to the cup. After some ivestigation, the hose that leads from the mouth of the vac to the dirt cup was very narrow & bends rather sharply as it turns up toward the cup. I spent an hour digging out the trash & dirt clogged in the hose!... only to have the same problem come back after 2 more uses. Now I can only vacuum with the attachment... til I buy a new vacuum cleaner. $40 for 2 months!?! A bargain? You be the judge. File this one under 'you get what you pay for'.

Still have the vacuum for about two years and it works as well as the day I bought it. I bought it because it is very lightweight and bagless. I thought the Bissell brand is very reliable. It is!!! The vacuum works fantastic. Of course if the carpet is really hairy it takes two passes to completely clean, but that also depends on how long since the last time I washed the two filters with soap and water. Don't have to wash it that way every time, though. The best part is how lightweight it is! I can't stand wrestling with the full size vacuums anymore. This vacuum also works fantastic on wood floors. I can go from wool rug to wood floor and it cleans up everything. Best vacuum I've had in decades!!! Remember, maintenance and clean filters is the key. Also, don't vacuum up stuff that can get lodged in the tube....

We bought this December '10 and we are very happy with it for the size it is. Ive read the other reviews on here and we had the same problems with it not picking up and having to go over the same spot over and over - well we fixed that easily by emptying it! I have no idea what others issues are with it, I presume they cleaned it out as well maybe, but thats how we fixed it. And after enough use where it got full again the same process occurred again - wouldnt pick up, so we had to clean it. You have to clean it thoroughly, not just empty the main tank. Theres three access areas you have to clean. One, where the hepa filter is which detaches from the main tank - second is the main tank itself - third is in the clear plastic section above where the main tank lines up with. Theres a second filter (simply plast) that you can rotate to remove and clean easily. It does not take 10 minutes to clean this thing according to anothers review. Once you know how to dismantle it - which is very easy, you take the 3 parts in the bathroom and rinse them out once youre done vacuuming. Everything dries pretty quickly outside of the hepa filter but that doesnt take too long either. Id also say - of course this vacuum needs to be emptied frequently. The whole point of it is to be small and lightweight. If you are looking for something to clean massive heavily soiled areas, you should never have considered buying a small vacuum. We are very pleased with this vacuum, and our only beef with it is that its now August and we have to buy a new filter, and thats a very small beef because in this desert climate its no wonder; and you can order the filter online directly through Bissell for 6.99. Another thing Im really impressed with is the length for the cord, its pretty long.

I bought this in Nov., it is May and it no longer works. Clogs easily. Has too many filters that constantly need to be cleaned. Suction is poor. Blows the dirt around more than picks it up. I have mostly hardwood floors and just needed this for area rugs and my stairs. You would have to go over the same area numerous times to get any results and even then poor results. Every time I used it you would have to spend 10 minutes cleaning out the hose and filters . Waste of money and time.

I've had mine 2-3 years now and use it repeatedly with 2 young boys in my house. I've never had a problem with the suction or filters. It's lightweight and ridiculously easy to empty and clean. Everything is a quick twist and/or click system. The Hepa filters collects so much dust and simply rinses clean in the sink. This vacuum picks up more dust than I ever actually see that I have in my house, as well as the big stuff, without ever having a cloud of dust. The attachments all work great for crevices and couches and the stairs. We're getting ready to buy it for my fiance's grandmother.

This vacuum is horrible, my mother in law bought it for us last month and it is DEAD!!!! The stupid thing will not pick up anything everything gets stuck in the hose because it has no SUCTION!!! The only thing this is good for is letting my two year old push it around and pretend to vacuum because that is all you are doing when you use it. It should say fisher price on it and shoot bubbles, but it would probably stink at that too. Moral of this story is you get what you pay for, and don't buy this DUD!!!!!! They should give you a bag of lemons when you buy it, because that is what it is

We bought this because the expensive ones we had were too heavy for us anymore. We thought, "oh well it's cheap and very light weight... even if it dies, no big loss" and took it home with low expectations. Well we were very surprised and very pleased, it was about a third the weight of our older ones and much quieter too, but the real surprise was that it picked up 2 full canisters of dirt from our freshly vacuumed floors. Also, we have small pets and it does a great job with the pet fur too. The only sort of a negative is that the filters need to be cleaned after every canister of dirt and replaced every every 5-7 canisters to keep the performance optimal. Overall we think this was a remarkable value.

I have really bad allergies and I have asthma, so I grew up living in a tile-floored house. When I moved in with my boyfriend, he had an old shag carpet and never dusted. The first day I got this little guy, I vacuumed the entire house, and got out all the cob webs. It's incredible. No dust kick back, easy to clean as well.

Easy Vac Not So Easy

This vacuum cleaner is terrible. Starting out was not all that easy, it has a bunch of tiny compartments that don't make sense or is useful or helpful, it sucks up the wrong things like socks shoe laces etc... It should be called Bissell The Disposable Vac, only because it worked really good the first time but after that it doesn't suck the crumbs out of my carpet, you have to keep fiddling with it to get it to suck up the right stuff. So you spend more time babysitting the thing than actually getting some cleaning done. My advice is you get what you pay for and that is never more true with this thing. I listened to my cheap skate boyfriend on buying this and now I'm stuck, wishing i had of paid more money on a better cleaner. The hose blocks up with every use. It can't handle anything more than your socks and shoe laces. Don't get this, bite the bullet and get a more expensive heavy duty one. I have pets as well so that's what might be blocking the hose every time. I don't use it anymore its just a big pain and like pulling teeth.

I would like to say I consider myself a vacuum technician, I service hundreds of machines and re sell them. Therefore I have used tons of different brands, and I actually own a $500 Oreck vacuum, along with a few others. The bags for the Oreck were also very expensive so I was considering a bagless. Second, this vacuum is more designed for apartments or town homes, it is compact, lightweight, and has a shorter cord. Not really made for a 2500 square foot house! Anyways, I saw this for only $38 and decided to grab it because it was a good deal, and I didn't think that the vacuums I had were doing a very good job anymore. I also wanted something with a hose (Something that fancy Oreck does not have) for cleaning out cars and other things. So I got this and did not expect much for the low price. Assembly was quick and easy, hardly anything needed to be done other than snapping the handle on. The machine seems to work excellent, and has great suction. Ive used it now for a few days atleast once a day in this three bedroom house with two dogs and four people. So using it in this large house is asking a lot out of it as it is, and since the cord is a bit short I do have to switch outlets occasionally. The filters are washable I am told, but Ive just blown them out with the compressor every other time I empty the cup. Which is quite often as I am shocked how much it picks up. For those of you who left a bad review, Wal Mart seems to have an issue with the site as there is the older more troublesome model, and then there is the new model released in 2011. So all those bad reviews in 2010/09 and such are probably on the old model. As for those in 2011 leaving a bad review, you must have got a bad one, or expected way more for $40! Only flaw I see with this vacuum is the seal on the dirt cup wearing out and losing suction, which could be solved when it happens by putting some silicone. RTV gasket stuff or such in there to create a new seal so to speak. The dust cup is easy to empty, and definitely keep those filters clean for maximum suction! Overall I think its great for the price, and I probably would/will buy them again. I may get a couple for cleaning out abandoned/foreclosure homes/apartments when I do those to avoid the cost of bags for a bagged vacuum.

  • A. I've unclogged ours a few times. Unclogged it's amazing and clogged it worthless- I know. It sounds like its clogged in the base where the hose connects. Or maybe you should hold the hose straight and look through it to make sure something isn't lodged in there. That was a stubborn one when it happened to us. Once we got the clog out- VOILA! Back to bein a dream machine again!

  • A. Did you accidently wash the hepa filter? If so, you will need a replacement. Water and dust make a mud that won't allow air flow thru this filter and by so blocks the suction.

  • A. I would clean the pre- motor filter located underneath the main filter cup and if it is clogged i would clean that next I would check the blue screen in the top part where the hose connects and clean that if its clogged, if that doesn't resolve the problem i would contact Bissell for help.

  • A. Ive had the same problem. I did the same thing (clean the hose out thoroughly from the dirt cup to the inlet of the mouth of the vac). The problem keeps coming back. The built-in portion of the hose that comes from the mouth of the vac is too narrow & makes a sharp turn. It constantly clogs & there is no solution to fixing it. My advice: count your losses & get a new vac, or try & return it and get your money back, and get something else.
