    A GOOD pedal from Behringer?

    Customer review by Philfixit

I admit that I don't have a lot of love for Behringer products. But the VP1 Phaser has received some good reviews elsewhere, and I purchased mine based on those. The VP1 comes dressed in a full sized metal enclosure reminiscent of EXH's boxes. It has the familliar metal footswitch (hardwire bypass!) a single "Rate" knob, and a slider switch labelled "Tone". This control, when in the 'up' position, gives more mids and presence to your sound, whereas the 'down' position allows your tone to pass through mostly uncolored. There is an LED that lights when the effect is engaged (some reviews have mentioned a red LED but mine is blue - same function though). Level matching is quite good, with no apparent difference in volumes betwixt engaged and bypassed. How does it sound? Think of some of the great phased sounds from the '70's - this stompbox nails them! Rate @ about "4", tone switch "down", and a little reverb through a fairly clean amp and you have Gilmour's playing on "Breathe" down pat! There are other Phasers out there with more controls and (sometimes) better sound, but they cost double the VP1's MSRP of $45 and 3-4 times the real world cost of about $25. You won't be disappointed with the Behringer unless you're a real corksniffer of a gearhound!

    It is a phaser pedal

This vintage style phase pedal is a decent pedal, but only the speed of phasing can be controlled and not the volume of phasing. There are songs that have decreased volume of phase effects on them. If someone is looking for a slight phasing sound and not the phasing speed this one is not the one they should buy. But the Behringer VP1 vintage style phase shifter makes the phasing effect sound.
