I have tried Jergens and Olay self tanners. They are good, but you dont get alot of color and it takes a while. if your like me then you want to see color right away or you think it isnt good. This stuff is tinted, so you see a little color as soon as you put it on. Then, it only takes 2-3 hours for the color to develop. And it doesent make you orange its a natural color. You can use it for all skin tones. I am very very fair and i used this and it didnt make me orange at all. There is a smell, but it is not really bad. Make sure you wash your hands after it though, any self tanner will make them have marks if you dont. I put this on, waited about 30 minutes to let it dry, took a nap, then when i woke up i had my color. You can apply as much as you need to until you get the color you want, then apply it 2 times a week to keep that color. Trust me this is the best self tanner i have used. If you want color fast get it!

After reading reviews, I thought "why not? It's 6 bucks". I have used other sunless tanners that cost 5 times that much and I don't see much of a difference in color, quality, and smell. My only complaint is if you rub it in too long it will actually start to peel off. Weird, I've used fake tanners for 7 years and I don't think I have ever had this happen. Anyway, I still love this product (and price!) and will it buy again. Application hints that work for me: - EXFOLIATE!!!! I use st. Ives AND a washcloth. - Use gloves!! They are super cheap and worth it not to have "dirty" hands for a week. - Do not apply on hands and feet, instead use a spray tanner to spray your hands and feet.

Hi, i just wanted to say at first i was very unsure about using this product. but when i decided to use it i was literally amazed i was expecting the worse cause i never used sunless tanning products before. the comments i heard about any sunless tanning products was terrible. i always thought to get the perfect evenly distributed tan was either by sun or tanning beds. i still visit the tanning salons to have a nice base color but when i use this product its like the perfect finish. i save money using this product and its long lasting. And to think you see results in less than fours hours is amazing! To sum it up this product is amazing and i would recommend it to anyone who wants that dark natural looking glow. believe me it works!!!!!!!!!!!

    • fades slowly after about 14 days...depending on how much you apply...apply it every other the description explains, it gets darker the more you apply it...but it never gets so dark you look "fake" goes by your skin tone. I have used this for YEARS after trying over 18 brands and types...just follow directions carefully...

    • No, it has some color so you can see where you apply it. It won't turn Orange if applied in small quantities. However, as always it depends on the color of your skin now. For such a low price, the best bet is to try it.

    • If you get it on your palms of your hands, under your wrists or feet, you will see an orange tone. If you shower right after you apply it, the color will come off.

    • It dosen't turn my skin color orange however, I do have spots where it wasn't rubbed in perfectly I guess and they appear darker than the rest. I did try to apply evenly and thouroghly, so I feel this will continue to happen

    • I have not experienced any orange skin coloring problems with this product. In fact, I have the most natural looking tan from a self tanner using this product that I have ever had. I would suggest not taking a shower immediately following an application of this product. In my experiences it's not water proof and does come off in the shower. Hope these answers help you determine if this is the product for you!

    • No. You must wait at least 4 hours so you actually get a tan. If you shower right after applying the lotion, it might not do its job. As far as turning orange, I didn't.

    • It wont make you orange, it gives you a natural tan. And you have to wait at least a half hour before showering.

is this product water resistent. How long does it take to get a dark tan? thanks
    by Gold99 9/8/2009
    • As long as you dont scrub it off it is. The tan sticks well, just have to apply once a week to maintain it.
      by SterlingHeights2311/1/2014
Was this answer helpful? (3) (0)
    • Yes but not before the first 4 hours. It's not a very dark tan with one time application and each time takes around 12-18 hours to really develop.

    • Not really. However, it does last a couple of days with daily showering. It does last longer than most.

    • I don't believe it is water resistant, the more you shower the more the color fades.

    • It adds a bit of color right away especially if you are light skinned. It does wash off if you go in the water soon after application.

    • it is water resistant. I am uncertain about chlorine water though. May have to reapply more often. Directions say to reapply every three hours or so to acheive desired color.

    • In my experience with this product it comes off in the shower easily. In turn I would have to say it's not water resistent. I took me about 4 applications to get the "dark" tan color I like to be. Now I apply twice a week to maintain my desired color. However, I'm sure it will vary depending on how "dark" you desire to be. Hope these answers help ya figure out if this is the product for you!

    • I would suggest you wait at least 3-4 hours before getting your skin wet. It took 4 hours for me to get a tan. If after that time you feel like you want to go darker, then reapply.

    • I don't know for sure how suncreen would affect it, but they usually recommend a minimum of 4 hours for the full tan to develop. I see this question is over a year old, so you might know by now that some brands (i.e. Jergens) have a self-tanner with SPF included. Two birds :)

    • I would let your skin dry completely, maybe 5-10 minutes, then apply your sunscreen. I have applied regular skin lotion over this product and it still seemed to work just fine.

    • My daughter waits 2 hours before she applies sunscreen and I wait that long as well to apply moisturizer to give this product enough time to ensure its optimum effect.

    • You can buy self tanners with sunscreen in them now. I put my tanner on an hour before bedtime so I can let it "set". But I have also mixed sunscreen and self tanner together. Self tanners can sweat off or come off in the pool if in for extended periods of time. I'd do the bedtime routine and then use the sun screen the next day.

    • I would apply a light film of sunscreen first and let it dry for at least 20 mins before applying this. I really think perhaps you should just go with the sunscreen and apply this after your shower, or use the Jergen's that has the sunscreen all ready in the product.

    • I leave it on for minimum 1 hr before applying sunscreen. If not rushing to work, leave it on 2-3 hrs before applying sunscreen.

    • I'm not sure what effects the color but after about a 1/2-1 hour you shouldn't have a problem diluting the tanner. I would just use the tanner at night and the sunscreen in the morning.

    • I have applied this product in the evening before bed and when I got up in the morning I went to tan in my backyard and used a tanning spray with SPF in it and my "fake" tan still came out fine. I don't think I have tried it with less than about a 4 hours gap though
      by HockeyPlayer275/8/2012
