My first canner Though I am new to canning, I have years of experience watching my mother doing it. I recently became interested in home canning due to the state of the economy and wanting to do without all the BHA's and BHT's and FD&C yellow #5's ;)This particular canner does a fine job. It WILL do what its suppose to do.However, there are a few refinements that I'd make on it.First and foremost....The canning rack provided is designed for quart size jars... it 'will' do pints, but not easily.. they tend to 'tip'. BUT... there IS a workaround... using cable-ties.. take bands and make a rack to use for smaller sizes like pints and 1/2 pints... ;) (a tip from me!)Also, it would be better if the rack was flat with no raised portions... and an extra wire around would make it more stable with smaller jars.It really does a decent job and is easy to use.Overall, it is good money spent....I'd recommend it! 03/09/2009
not as expected This product is for quart size jars. I don't know why they send pint jars. The pints don't even fit on the rack. When i put them in the jars fall together. Plus the pot is not for glass stove tops, because it could crack it. I returned the product. NOT worth it 11/02/2008
Canning supplies I bought this item because I want to try to make homemade jams and syrups and jelly. My mom-in-law and I enjoy strawberry and blueberry picking. This home canning supply is excellent, very easy to use with friendly user manual. I've been using it ever since I got it (April 2008) and been making homemade jams and syrups, which make excellent gifts for friends and family. 03/15/2009
I read enough reviews to know that the rack is for quarts only and that the jars are actually pints. This isn't exclusive to the Walmart site...anywhere that sells this kid has the same issue. So no surprise. This was a very good price, especially with site-to-store free shipping. It's exactly as expected. I tried to improvise with the rack, but find that I don't really like it even with quart jars. So I'm ordering a new rack that works for all sizes.Overall, it's exactly as I expected and I'm really enjoying the recipes that came with it. A very good starter set, just throw out the rack and get a different one! :) 08/27/2009
