This sandbox is VERY easy to put together. It takes 750 lbs. to fill the sandbox. We bought our PLAY SAND at Lowes. They came in 50 lbs. bags, so we purchased 15 bags.

Not complicated. There are lots of screws. It took 2 adults less than 2 hours to put together. We purchased 14 bags of "play" sand from Walmart to fill it to the brim.

This sandbox is not for a novice to put together. The instructions are not right and holes don't line up.

You will need 750lbs of sand. Or 15 - 50lb bags.

Was simple to assemble. Took about an hour. I bought our sand at a local building supply company for $3/bag.

If you contact the manufacturer, Badger Basket Company, they can email you the assembly manual for your review before you purchase. The sandbox holds approximately 750 pounds of sand to fill it 6 inches deep (calculated assuming average of 100 lbs per cubic foot for dry sand and 4 sides x 46.5 inches L x 6 inches H equals 7.5 cuft). Sand can usually be purchased at Wal-mart. Please check with your local Wal-mart garden center.

Sand to fill the sandbox can be purchased at any local home improvement stores, such as Lowes or Home Depot.  Approximately 750 pounds of sand will fill the sandbox 6 inches deep.

How complicated is this sandbox to put together? Also, how much sand needs to be purchased and where can we purchase this sand? Thanks.

My daughter and I just put this together last night. The instructions are not very specific. Just pictures and not very detailed at that.For instance make sure the large holes where awning poles attach are on the inside. We didn't and instead of starting over I will have to add hardware to make them stay on. I was glad to see the doors come already built. Not hard if you pay very close attention to where all the nail holes are.

Its easy. Hammer a few nails, and screw in a few screws. Fill with sand, done. :)

It would depend on your skill level. A full set of instructions for this product can be found at www.badgerbasket.com Put in model number 99895. This will pull up a pdf file for two versions, both of which look the same to me. Perhaps seeing how it is constructed may help answer your question.

You can completely leave the benches off if that's what you mean. Otherwise, the benches are already hinged and you simply attach them to the frame.

It took my husband 30-45min by his self. Not long at all. And took like 8 bags of sand.

That's a great question!  The lid is already hinged to allow seating for children.  We don't recommend modifying the sandbox, as that would void the manufacturer warranty.

Just got this sandbox so I cannot yet attest to its durability, but it was simple to assemble and is a well-made product. I love the closing doors to keep animals out of the sand, and the bench seating is very convenient. I will upgrade the cover on the top to something more durable, but otherwise I am very pleased with this purchase.
