I was very impressed really with this purchase. It purchased a 55 gal water purification drum for part of my Emergency Preparedness kit. It arrived quickly and freight was very reasonable for shipping to Alaska.

Great, came with all things needed to open. The water treatment bottles and pump are a great PLUS with this purchase! Maybe a drum dolly for purchase would have made it even better for when after it is prepared (filled with water). Drum dolly with wheels much like the photo provided.

We purchased this item to be able to store emergency water, period! 55 Gallons to be exact. The kit comes with chemicals to add to your tap water to keep it fresh. It is easy to set up, and be done with it! If you do have any questions, the Augason Farms site has plenty of customer reviews to ease your mind & get any questions you might have answered there. I love this online store that Walmart has made available to their customers! Thank you Walmart!! I accidentally came across Augason Farms while shopping online at Walmart. I have purchased many items from this store. I am satisfied with everything I've purchased, truly! The other customers give full reviews as well & how-to's if you have any questions. It is a friendly online store & deliveries are sent out pretty quickly! Hand delivered to your door, saving you the time & gas money! This is a great emergency product to have on hand if you like being prepared.

Good product but just to make sure that people know that the container itself is one piece and does not open except for the two round openings on top. Also the Auqamira product that comes with it will keep your water safe and useable for 5 years.

    barrel good, pump might fail

The barrel is good, comes with a wrench, etc. The pump is cheap plastic, might fail on the first day of real use. That's OK, because the price of both together, and free shipping, was less than the barrel alone on other sites. The pump will tide me over until I find a heavier duty one that will last if the lights go out for a prolonged period. The treatment is for 30 gal, which I found annoying considering it's a 55 gal tank. I discovered the Berkey Filter after ordering this, and realized I would have been better off putting the money toward a Berkey. It's hard to argue with 12000 gallon lifespan (2x 6000 gal filter inserts).

    • A. water does not " go bad" or "expire" ever. Bacteria, if it is present in either your water or the barrel may grow if there is a source of food for it in the barrel. Treating the water you put in the barrel with a half teaspoon of hyperchlorite bleach per 5 gallons of water will kill most any bacteria present. The bleach will become inert over time and will not make the water harmful to drink or affect the taste appreciably . To be doubly safe you could retreat the water upon opening. I also keep Water purification filters on hand. A sawyer filter will ensure the purity of an almost unlimited amount of water (10's of thousands of gallons) stored this way and will filter out both bacteria and virus if you have the correct device, The cost of one is well under 100 dollars.

    • A. About 5 years but water does become stale after awhile. The taste can be improved by aerating it, (pouring it back and forth between two containers for a few minutes).

    • A. After quite a bit of reading there is agreement that if the water is treated with the water purification kit that comes with the water barrel it will keep drinkable for 5 years. If you fill the barrel with water out of the tap it is already treated and will keep for 6 months and will then need to be emptied and refilled. Keep the barrel out of the sun and in a cool dark place.

    • A. Under ideal conditions, 50 F to 85 F and with sodium hypochlorite drops added to the mixture, sealed and stored in a dark clean area, the water will last 5 years as they claim. If you slosh the container and fol-low the directions letting a small amount out of the ports and then not opening the water even for a moment.

A tool came with this, but I'm having a hard time actually getting the lid off and don't want to force it if it's not really supposed to come off.

    • A. The tool is for the bung, the cap that is threaded. Removing the large plastic top, not really a wise idea since it is sealed for a reason. The threads on the top should allow you to remove the cap, if it will not come off with the tool or gets stripped the option left if try really hard to turn it and hope the threads hold up but if they strip you have 90 days to return it.

    • A. The lid does not come off. The wrench is used to tighten the plugs that close up the top. Mine came with two plugs and the wrench fits into the plug and you turn it clock-wise to close the plugs.

    • A. ALL water storage containers would need to be washed out, filled with a small amount of water, rolled and slashed and then dumped. This insures for our own safety and the peace of mind, we have covered all the bases. Pretty sure the company who makes these would never take an extra step to make sure there is no residue in the container, Dust etc.
