    What's a Tablet PC?
Tablet PCs are compact, ultra-portable entertainment devices that let you read email, surf the Internet, read eBooks, view photos, play games, listen to music and watch video files. Most tablets are based on a smaller operating system, which allows you to purchase and download additional applications from supported stores. Tablet PCs do not have a CD/DVD drive and will not run Microsoft Windows or its applications. Tablet PCs function as a secondary device for casual entertainment purposes and are not meant to replace a computer. They are ideal for use around the home and on the go with Wi-Fi or 3G/4G mobile broadband connections (pay as you go, contract may be required for service).

I ordered 2 of these tablets, one 8gb ( a gift for my father) and one 16gb for myself. I have owned several tablets, mostly android, but also an ipad. I have not owned a kindle fire, but i used one. This tablet is by far the best of the lot. I only have one complaint, but ill get to that later. It is fast as all get out. It is light, and easy to handle with one hand. It doesn't come overly burdened with bloat software. The price is amazing, especially when you add in the 25$ play store credit. The screen is impeccable, and the volume of video and audio playback really blew me away. There is no internal storage, so for me i would prefer the 16gb version, however realistically 8gb is plenty if you use any kind of cloud service, ie dropbox. You can stream off of most of these services without the need of putting it on the device, or you can download when needed, (for flights and suck) you can even use external hard drives and usb storage if you know how. Also the tablet comes only being able to be viewed in portrait mode, no landscape. However this is easily fixed by downloading an app from the play-store like (ultimate rotation control) this allows you to view the tablet however you want. Some people complain about the lack of a camera on the back, but for me i have never really used a tablet as a camera, as it is really just not practical. I have a cell phone that takes amazing pictures, and is far more convenient to hold a small phone than a big tablet up. This thing reads really well also, i love both the kendel app and the google books app, (a little tip, change to night mode, this makes reading much more pleasurable on any tablet). So lets go with pro's and con's PRO Fastest tablet i have ever used / Very snappy / Extremely good audio / Video playback is very nice, very clear / multitasking is a breeze / Very light, and easy to manage with one hand / has a great lether feal to the back, that grips well / perfect size for reading / Great price / 25$ google play credit / free movie CON No expansion on storage and only 2 options for this (this is easily fixed with a cloud storage, or an external hard drive of some sort) / portrait only viewing (also easily fixed with an app) Other than this i really cant think of anything. This tab is top notch. I have included 2 pics one in portrait and one in landscape, just to verify 1. it can be done 2. i actually have the tablet and am not someone just rambling about something i don't even have.

    Awesome compliment to computers

Let me start by qualifying myself. I have 4 desktops, a laptop, a netbook, smart TV, smart alarmclock and an android phone. I've been around tech since a 1.44 Mb floppy was massive storage. I bought my Nexus7 as an augmentation to what I already own and not to displace anything. It fits a niche right between my netbook or laptop and cell phone. As a media device, web reader, and instant on computing source it is awesome. The quad-core processor makes it respond to change in application or screen rotation very snappy and helps keep the streaming content flowing even in HD. (better than my netbook actually) Due to the lack of memory card slot I did opt for the 16 Gb storage model and will continue to complain, (half heartedly since I have cloud services). I have heard lots of complaints about no rear facing camera but for me I have either my cell phone for unexpected shots or my DSLR for when I'm site seeing. I also love the battery life and have yet to run it out in a single day having included streaming Netflix and Pandora for several hours in the same day. Great value but keep in mind this device will not replace a laptop or cell phone. Two other comments regarding other posts. -Only the home pages are locked in portrait mode all apps I have tried rotate with my motions w/o an app to do so. Just need to unlock the screen rotation in settings. -The quality of this device is vastly superior to anything else I have test driven. Having already owned a lessor capable 7" tablet I wouldn't even put the two in the same room for comparison. I was very shocked to see the previous poster's comment about a bad screen and even more shocked that so early in the product release they were able to have already receive a second device as these have been selling out everywhere. (Just my 2¢)

    Get this tablet!

I had to travel out of town to purchase this tablet because it was sold out in my area. It was well worth the trip. The first tablet , the 16GB, had some distortion in the speaker so I returned the tablet and retrieved a replacement. This tablet is well worth the money and is much more responsive than any other tablet I have used such as the IPad and Samsung Galaxy. People complain about the lack of a SDC slot but you can get around with the USB cable. I put several movies on the tablet via the USB cable that were in MP4 and M4V format. They play well on the tablet. The tablet will not play MKV files so don't even try to load them. I also loaded some mp3 files through the USB cable. Cloud storage is nice as all my settings from the first tablet automatically downloaded to the second tablet including my wireless WPA settings. This is a cool tablet. It even has voice controls that rivals Siri. I can conduct web searches, order pizza, send email, through the voice control. Get one while you can.

    • Yes, it comes with the $25 credit no matter where you purchase the n7. If you don't already have a Google account just sign up, you'll see the option to either create or sign in to a Google account. You'll then get the confirmation that your $25 is in your account. Also, you'll receive an update shortly after which will bring Google wallet. Once you sign in with Google wallet and select the card you want to add you'll get $10 added to your card of choice. I just picked to add the Google wallet card as I didn't want to add any credit cards. You'll see at the bottom off the app the places that you can use your free $10,I've used it at McdDonald's, Rite Aid and 7 eleven. It's a great little app! And watching the cashiers faces as they watch you use your tab to pay for your purchase is priceless!

Built in wifi means it will have wifi everywhere I go without paying anything? Or does it mean I need to go to a place to use it that has wifi??? I'm so confused =( I am thinking of buying one but I do not have wifi at my house, does this mean I will have to go to a retaurant to use someones wifi in order to web browse?
    by rjc2010 9/15/2012
    • Built in wifi means you can use it wherever there is wifi. Meaning you can use it at home or anywhere free wifi is available

    • You either have to connect to WiFi or tether to a phone capable of data tethering.

Was this answer helpful? (0) (0)
    • Yes, you would need to go somewhere that has wireless access. Let me try to explain the terminology: Wi-Fi is a wireless connection with limited range that is sometimes shared with many computers at once. 3G is wireless Internet provided via cellphone towers available anywhere that provider has a tower. The Nexus 7 only comes with built in Wi-Fi.

Was this answer helpful? (2) (0)
    • It needs access to the Internet so if you do not have it and you do not have a SmartPhone that you can tether to it, yes, you will need to go where you can have the access. Depending on where you live, there may be wifi available through libraries, many office supply stores, as well as auto service centers -- so customers can utilize it while waiting for service. Check around and you may be pleasantly surprised at the access you do have.

    • You must have a WiFi access point to connect to the Internet with the tablet. There is no cellular radios so you won't be able to connect 'anywhere'.

    • Built in wifi means it has a wifi antenna and allows you to log on to a wireless network. If you do not have WiFi at your house, you cannot log online. You will have to find a place that offers wifi.

    • You must be in a location that has "wifi" available. Built in wifi means it is capable of logging on to a wireless network. If you have internet, you can get a wireless router pretty cheap these days. This will give you wireless for tablets, laptops, etc.. Most restaurants, coffee shops, airports and more have wifi. Also you can use a phone that is capable of being a wireless hotspot to log on with your tablet anywhere.

    • Built-in Wi-fi means it has a built-in wi-fi adapter that will enable you to connect to a network, as long as one is present. So yes, you need to be somewhere that has a network connection available.

    • You will have to have wireless internet, if you don't you won't be able to get online. There are alot of places you can go to use the internet for free like coffee houses, library, some restraunts and hotels. Or if you have a neighbor that has wireless internet and you pick up their signal, maybe you could ask them if you could perhaps use theirs but it does require a password so you will have to ask first. But alot of the apps that you download don't require the internet... But I would suggest that you get the wireless internet first or you won't be able to do much at all.... I only pay $25.00 a month for at&t internet.... The Asus Nexus 7 is great, you will love it.

I have a Netfilix account and was wondering if the operating system is capable of supporting Netflix and playing movies with descent quality. (not pausing all the time)
    by an anonymous customer 9/20/2012
    • Yes, the graphics chips in this tablet have no problem with HD video. But then even today's cheapest tablets can usually do that. The pausing is more likely to be caused by Wifi and network issues. But the wireless throughput on this tablet is great.

    • Yes, it is VERY capable of playing Netflix movies in HD. Quality of the picture and pauses for buffering will be greatly affected by the speed of your Internet connection. This tablet has an Nvidia Tegra 3 quad core processor.

    • Yes streaming Netflix on the Nexus 7 is great. The screen shows the videos beautiful. Also Walmart sells protective cases that also serves as a stand. But as far as stopping and pausing, it is up to the speed of your internet connection

    • Yes, you can download the Netflix app and use it fine, the Netflix application works better on Jelly Bean than on any other Android version i've seen. However, the quality of the video depends on your internet speed as well. 2+ mbps should work well for streaming.

    • Yes it plays Netflix. Quality is excellent. Pausing depends on your internet speed, I do not have particularly fast internet (3 mbps) and it works great. I also play movies on Crackle which has lots of free movies.

Was this answer helpful? (0) (0)
    • Yes Netflix will play on the Nexus 7. Your internet connection does have to be good, though. If not, you will have to buffer more so than you would like.
