Great for betta but 1 problem.

I attached 2 photos to show with flash, and without flash to show the tank's lighting. I got this to move my betta fish to a bigger tank from his 2 gallon tank. In every way I love it, but there is one problem. There is NO hole and no way to put an airtube in without leaving the hood opened. I took a dremmel to the hood and just opened up a small place for the tube to go through so that I could actually close the hood (I drilled where the hood is meant to accomodate the filter... so it does not look like a make-shift hole) The filter is fine for a betta fish. It actually aerates the water pretty well, so an airstone really isn't necessary in this size of tank unless it's for an action decoration or the betta's entertainment (my betta likes to ride the airbubbles to the surface). If you do use an airpump for something, I suggest having a control valve attached so you don't put too much current in the tank. Also note that this filter can NOT be moved from one side of the tank to another. It is made to fit exactly in the center with no ifs ands or buts. Other than that I love it. It looks wonderful and I love how I can see my fish clearly all the time (when he's not hiding in his castle) because there are no edges in the front that seem to distort how well I can see him. It is also very lightweight next to the glass tanks and other acrylic tanks.

    good betta tank

Bought this tank originally for my daughter a shrimp tank. She has placed this on hold until we find a decent stand for her. Because of this i decided to use it for my night stand buddy. I love the different lights though it would be better to have the blu on a different switch so a timer could be used. The full hood enclosed perfect for jumpers like betta fish. Plenty of room for the fish to stretch his fins. I suggest you buy a sponge filter instead of using the enclosed one as its a bit strong for a betta. Overall a good size for a betta or even some shrimp.

I'm very happy with this little aquarium. Set up was easy. The lighting is excellent and the filter has so far worked great (I've only had the aquarium about a month.) The size of the aquarium is perfect for a desk or for that matter, just about anywhere! 5 gallon capacity is just right for smaller fish.

    • My betta loves this tank! Of course you should only have one betta in it since they fight each other. But yes it works great for a betta!

    • My betta loves swimming around in it, but don't use the pump/filter. My fish got to close, he is nosey, and it sucked him right against it. Thankfully I was right there and could unplug it, there is no on/off switch

    • Yes, our Betta loves it. It must feel like a grand hotel compared to what they come in.

    • This tank is more than big enough for a Betta! I personally would suggest a far smaller tank if it is just going to house a Betta.

    • You can only put one bettas in tanks by themselves unless you have a divider because they are very aggressive fish

    • This tank would be perfect for one betta and fine for two males if there is a proper divider set in place. It is not ideal for a sorority of females as there is not enough room for that amount of fish or for hiding and chasing areas.

    • I use these tanks for multiple males with dividers, male and a number of females with divider, Breed tank and rearing tanks. They are Great.

One of the comments made it sound like there was no way to run an airstone without leaving the hood open - wondering if that is the same for putting in a heater? Thanks.
    by Mortacci
    • Yes it does. I have several tanks some with flat bottom heaters, some with short suction cup heaters

    • I am not using mine for fish, I'm using it for hermit crabs. I checked out the hood, there are 2 plastic pieces that are etched out that can be removed for filter, etc. 1 is in the middle in the back for filter then there is another oval shaped 1 in the back on the right hand side which looks perfect for a heater. The hood wouldn't have to be left open. There should be plenty of room to add the air stone line next to the where the filter goes, that space is almost 6 1/2" long by 2" wide. I hope this helps you some :) Oh, I should have mentioned that I have had fish before :)

    • I've had a 7.5 watt heater in my tanks for nearly a year. No issues other than the fact that any heater will cause more water to evaporate and condense on the underside of the cover, which could cause the LEDs to fail.

    • The slot that is to the far right as you are facing the tank, cut it out with a knife, you can run a heater, airpump or the filter from this area. This is what I did??

    • this tank comes with a hood where it shows you to cut it and put your heater at a corner [follow the manual instructions where it is designed]. it's nothing like you have to leave the hood open. you just have to cut that particular side to take out the heater cord, easy! I've attached a top view, you will notice the right corner.

    • I have a heater in mine now. I had to snap out one of the plastic pieces, but they are made to be able to be cut out for things like heaters.
