This may work well on larger tanks, but doesnt work well (too big perhaps?) for my 2.5 gal tank. I have a hard time getting the water to flow. It's a manual process of moving the cylinder up and down in the water, and when it does trickle through the pressure isn't enough to suck up the gravel/water. I followed the directions; elevated the tank, held the output lower.

The first time I used this it was hard to get going. But now I have gotten the hang of it and it leaves my gravel nice and clean and is very simple to use. I was disgusted seeing how much debri came out of my gravel. I almost didn't buy this because of the one bad review. But I needed a siphon and it was the only one walmart had. I don't know what happened with the person that wrote the bad review because it works great! I am glad I purchased this.

I don't understand why the other reviewer found this product so difficult. All I did was push the tube over the end. Of course it is hard to slip on because you need it to stick to the siphon so there is no leak of air. It's a good product. I have a couple of these and they work fine! It's not that difficult.

I have never used one of these before. I was afraid the gravel would get stuck or sucked up in the tube among other concerns. But I followed the directions and it does a great job cleaning the bottom of my tank. Good price too.

  • A. Submerge the whole hose. Clog one end using a finger or by pinching it closed. Pull the closed end out of the tank carefully and quickly to your sink or bucket, while holding the other end of the hose under water. The bucket or sink end needs to be slightly lower than your tank. The more distance (from high to low) the faster it will syphon. So, if you're picking up pebbles, raise your bucket a little higher. The emptying end has to be lower than the tank bottom. *If you're a fish breeder, make sure to use nylon over your cleaner end or remove the eggs from the tank first. Remember, do not use anything with soap or soap residue in your tank.

  • A. I put mine in the water and shake it up in down in the water until it starts to work. I place the hose in the sink and all of the crud goes down the drain.

  • A. like siphoning - it sucks the water out by gravity once it is forced or primed by mouth or the inside plastic thing that is in this tube - but sorry mine fell off hope yours does not - we had to use our mouth but all in all it still worked good - just worried about cleanliness of doing this yuck right

  • A. you put the gravel cleaner into the tank and you move it up and down until you see the water going into your bucket and remember only empty about 25 to 50 percent of the water and use AquaSafe to your replacement water, and use 10ml for every 10 gallons so if you have a 10gal tank, use only 10ml, if you have a 20gal tank use 20ml, and so on, but if you have a tank less the 10gallons, like a 5gal tank use only 5ml, hope this helps

  • A. This product works by submerging the vacuum into the water. When the large tube connected to the long smaller tube feels with water, suck on the opening of the small tube and place downward into a bucket. The water being pulled down by the force of gravity will continue to pull water through the siphon until it is removed from the water.

  • A. Yes, I have a 6.5 gallon tank and 5 lbs. of gravel in it. Each time it picked up an inch or two of gravel, sucked up the debris and then dropped the cleaned gravel because the suction isn't strong enough to get it into the tubing.

  • A. Actually Yes it will pick up some of the gravel if it's being used correctly! What you do is place the siphon against the gravel, the gravel and fish waste will be drawn into the siphon 2-3 inches. As this happens, raise the siphon up off of the graves, the gravel in the siphon is heavier then the fish waste and will fall back down, while the fish waste will travel up and out of the tank. After few tries with this up and down motion you'll be a pro in no time. Caution: if you dont remove your fish from thr tank becareful as small fish can be drawn into the siphon. Goldfish produce alot of waist so you want to cycle 1/3 to 1/2 of your tank water "Weekly". Replace with pre-treated water?
