One left, one right, connected by the top, bottom and fixed shelf. Pretty solid, better than some I've seen.

I'd say 2 sides, labeled a and b. box arrived long and heavy. Need 2 persons to carry but one can likely put it together if using prop to hold one end. Middle shelves not labeled so count holes to match in instructions. worth it! Had ship to home as I do not own a truck to pick up from store. lol packed very well. FedEx delivered mine.

there is most definitely two sections top and bottom to put together, so the sides are not continuous single pieces, they are each two.

Each side is one long piece. You get two of these pieces because there are two sides to the shelf.

3 Shelves that are adjustable (only two are finished on both sides)

Each side is one long piece. Most tall bookshelves are two units which fasten together, but these are a little topheavy. These shelves are just wonderful. So easy to assemble, and it is all one unit. I love these. And they are the only ones I have been able to find that come as a single unit. I guess it is easier for the manufacturer to ship them in a box that is only half as tall, but it is not so nice for the customer.  I refinish old houses, and when it is time for resale the customers just love to see a set of what looks like a built in unit. It really helps to sell the house.

absolutely not, it is extremely cheap and flimsy and narrow.

I would venture to say no, but it wouod depend on how small your microwave is.

I wouldn't put it here. The shelves are standard book size wide.

It probably would, but I would not recommend it. It's not really that stable (unless you mount it to the wall, hardware is included) and it's not deep so it has to be a very small microwave. Also if you do use it for the microwave don't put the back on.. it's flimsy.

I don't think so. I found the bookcase to be very wobbly - would not expect it would hold anything of substance. I added more screws and will wind up using it in my garage, not my original plan for it.
Would not recommend this bookcase. Will look for a bookcase made of real wood.

This unit actaully has a very thick cardboard on the back which is a big % of support, but not so thick its board.

It's made of a cardboard whose strength is between that of a cereal box and a normal cardboard box.

The back is a cardboard-type material, and is painted like wood on one side to match the bookshelf. It is sturdy enough, but actually not necessary to the structure of the bookshelf. You could leave it off entirely, and let the wall show through the shelves.
