    Nice Little Frame

    Customer review by MilitaryWifeAndMomma

It looks nice. It is simple to use, and the photos are sharp. I like that it showed the actual size of my pics instead of stretching photos that were too small (note: Photos are scaled to fit if they are too large - nothing gets cropped). The only negative for me (and it was a small one) is that you are not given the option to randomize your photos. Whatever order they are loaded on your sd or flash drive is how they will display.

I wanted SOOO much to like this digital frame--it's such a great price compared to all the other 8" frames on the market. But after a week of frustration and disappointment, it's going back to the store today. The frame itself is stylish (looks almost like an iPad) and the image is bright and clear, but the software that runs it is so full of bugs and glitches that I will never buy another Aluratek product again. The frame requires you to set the clock and select an auto-on and auto-off time, but when it automatically powers on the next day, instead of running the slide show, it starts at the menu screen, and someone has to manually start the slide show, totally defeating the "auto"-on function. What a stupid oversight on the manufacturer's part. Then, when the slide show is running, there are so many glitches that occur. Some photos show up as thumbnails instead of full-screen, even though they are ALL set to display at full-screen size; sometimes the transition effect works, sometimes it doesn't; some photos are skipped, but not every time, there's no consistency; sometimes the slide show will freeze and none of the buttons work when this occurs, so all you can do is unplug the frame...which requires you to reset the clock and all the settings all over again; and some photos have an "interference" pattern or colored band across them, but this might be due to a problem with the SD memory card, not the frame's software. Be careful--the way the frame is designed, you have to insert the memory card upside down (with the label facing down, instead of the way it should've been if the frame had been designed correctly, with the label facing up, toward the user. Overall, the buggy operation of this frame renders the nice design and great price irrelevant, and I'll end up replacing it with a more reliable brand.

    nice unit, with limitations

Once I got the picture frame working well, it is great; but getting the pictures to show as desired was a real pain, as the written and on-line instructions provide no help and the manufacturer's TechSupport was nice but did not know. The problem was that the pictures (taken sequentially and numbered by the camera) did not show in the picture frame in their correct order; even renumbering them (slide 001, slide 002...) did not help. Also, shots taken in portrait mode and turned on the computer before transferring showed in random orientations, including some upside down. The only fix I found was to transfer all the photos into PowerPoint presentation and save the PowerPoint as JPEGs, which when copied to the SD card show in the order and orientation I want. So, knowing this work-around, the unit is fine, and a great deal. I sure hope it lasts over time.
