It is magnetic and the 2 magnets it comes with will hold a piece of paper or whatever, the marker it comes with is terrible and difficult to erase however and the board i received was warped so bad that i cant hang it. it is warped in both directions like someone held it twisted while it was being made. i cant figure out how to attach the tray to it. Personally had it not been warped i would have been happy with it so it may just be mine specifically but make sure you check yours b4 you open it, i didn't think to... 02/12/2013
