This went together relatively easy. Lots of parts, but they are all marked well. The only thing, some of the screws were too long and so they came through the wood. Also one of the knobs was stripped so that it wasn't tight. Just put it on the door that wouldn't be used as ofter so it wasn't a big deal. The look of the case and how the doors all slide back and forth is beautiful. I'd buy it again annd certainly recommend this to anyone.

There are 298 parts to this bookcase. (Yes, I took the time to add all the parts up.) So it is very time consuming to put together (Took me about 8 hrs). I put this together mostly by myself with a hand screwdriver (which is why it took so long). There is NO reason to use a hammer putting this together... if you do you will break the finish. (talking from experience here) My Dad let me borrow his Bosch battery operated drill and that made it go much faster. It has a setting designed for putting furniture like this together. It won't let you use too much pressure and strip the screws or put holes in the the wood. My main recommendation on this is to make sure you put the door tracks on their correct sides otherwise you end up with a big gap between the top of the bookcase and the doors that hang down. When you look at the picture diagram it doesn't say "I" goes here and "J" goes there. (what I could see was that there was a large knob that the door hung on and that went to the front and the smaller knob went to the back). Make sure you look at the list of items where it labels "I" and "J" one goes on the right side the other one on the left. (Didn't see this till after I messed up). Otherwise when you get to the last step (and you find out you have them on the wrong side) you have to lay the bookcase on the floor and switch "I" and "J" to their correct places. If this happens MAKE SURE you put something underneath the back of the bookcase other wise if you have a wood floor the screws that hold the backing on will scratch the floor. (I didn't think to do that and I scratched my brand new floor that had only been down for 4 days :( ). This book case is deep enough to put two rows of regular size paper back books on each shelf. I have all my Star Trek, Star Trek TNG, Star Trek DS9, Star Trek Voyager etc... you get the point. I did have to stack some books on top of the two rows for all my books to fit but it has plenty of storage. I would recommend anchoring the bookcase to the wall. I didn't use the anchor they supplied (plastic) I used a metal anchor. I bought this bookcase because I needed something inclosed because I have a 9 month old kitten who loves to climb. I didn't want him to pull books off the shelf and hurt himself (Or me) so I wanted something that was enclosed but wasn't too expensive. This fit that bill! While for me it took some major time to put together I think it was well worth the time and effort. It looks very nice in my room. Would highly recommend this bookcase ... just make sure you have an extra set of hands to help put it together... it will go much faster if you do.

Okay, this is a relatively inexpensive, particle board bookcase, and for what it is it's not bad. Certainly not fine furniture, but it is well designed, serviceable, and looks reasonably good. According to the instructions, the shelves are rated for only 20 pounds each, so its not exactly a heavy duty bookcase. Be aware that this bookcase requires a lot of assembly. It's not hard, but will take some time, and you must follow the directions VERY carefully. - and this is where its greatest problem lies: some of the drawings in the instructions are a unclear, even misleading, and I found that a couple of the parts were mislabeled. Other than that, the assembly was fairly straightforward, and can be accomplished by one person.

    • A. COMPOSITE...GO FOR WOOD...THE FINISH COMES OFF EASY

    • A. I would say most of it is composite. But it is very heavy duty composite. The shelves might actually be "wood" but the backing is cardboard that uses screws to hold in place instead of nails. The screw holes are already there so you don't have to guess where the screws should go. There is only one part that I would consider flimsy and that is at the top of the bookcase there is a part that fits underneath the top and connects to both sides. (It fills in the gap between the door and the top of the bookcase.) But if you don't use a hammer to make sure the wood pegs are all the way in you shouldn't have any problem with it. Hope this helps.
