Book Information

The following content was provided by the publisher.
Have you ever stopped to think, "Maybe the Amish are on to something"? Look around. We tweet while we drive, we talk while we text, and we surf the Internet until we fall asleep. We are essentially plugged in and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Rather than mastering technology, we have allowed technology to master us. We are an exhausted nation. No one has enough time, everyone feels stressed out, and our kids spend more hours staring at a screen each week than they do playing outside. It's time to simplify our lives, make faith and family the focal point, and recapture the lost art of simple living. Building on the basic principles of Amish life, Nancy Sleeth shows readers how making conscious choices to limit (and in some cases eliminate) technology's hold on our lives and getting back to basics can help us lead calmer, more focused, less harried lives that result in stronger, deeper relationships with our families, friends, and God.

Book description

Have you ever stopped to think, Maybe the Amish are on to something? Look around. We tweet while we drive, we talk while we text, and we surf the Internet until we fall asleep. We are essentially plugged in and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Rather than mastering technology, we have allowed technology to master us. We are an exhausted nation. No one has enough time, everyone feels stressed out, and our kids spend more hours staring at a screen each week than they do playing outside.

It’s time to simplify our lives, make faith and family the focal point, and recapture the lost art of simple living. Building on the basic principles of Amish life, Nancy Sleeth shows readers how making conscious choices to limit (and in some cases eliminate) technology’s hold on our lives and getting back to basics can help us lead calmer, more focused, less harried lives that result in stronger, deeper relationships with our families, friends, and God.

Customer Product Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5★by 1reviewer.
Rated 4 out of 5★by Living life too fast, As Nancy Sleeth begins to write this book, she sees the world in too fast a pace. Everyone is running her and there with no time to spend with God nor family. Everything had to get done today. She had the book arranged in small chapters and each one talks about a different topic. She had the verses of the Bible to back her thoughts up as she compares the way we spend out time and the way we let our children. I enjoy the books about the Amish and their easy slow way of life and Nancy compairs them with the way we run around so fast.I know when I was growing up there was no computer nor did we have a TV so all my play was outside using my imagination. Now I see my grandchilden does not ever know how to ride a bike, and I can't say a word as I set and play games on the computer myself, but now I am old.I really enjoyed reading the way Nancy used her talent in writting this book, she has even thrown in some great receipes that are healthy. I think you will really enjoy this book and you may even want to get one for your children that are raising children of their own. Thanks so much to Tydale publishing for sending me this book before it even hits the shelves so that I might convey my thought to others. 03/01/2012
