    Assembly:
    • More than one person recommended for the assembly of this cedar swing set
    • Depending on your experience, assembly of this wood play set should take approximately 10-14 hours after inventory of parts. Therefore, we recommend you set aside a full day for assembly.

    Safety Information:
    • Instructions are included
    • Lumber is pre-drilled, pre-cut, and pre-stained
    • Lumber is stamped for ease of assembly
    • Play set footprint is 18' 1" L x 7' 9 1/2" W x 9' 3 1/2" H; the recommended safe play area is 30' 1" L x 25' 10" W x 15' 3 1/2" H
    • Place in a flat area of your yard to minimize ground preparation.
    • Choose a level location for the equipment. This can reduce the likelihood of the cedar play set tipping over and loose-fill surfacing material washing away during heavy rains.
    • Place the equipment not less than 6 feet from any structure or obstruction such as a fence, garage, house, overhanging branches, laundry lines, or electrical wires.
    • Provide enough room so that the children can use the equipment safely. For example, for structures with multiple play activities, a slide should not exit in front of a swing.
    • It is a good idea to place your Playcenter in an area that is convenient for adults to watch children at play.
    • Do not build your playset on top of surfacing material.

Product: $599 Adventure Play Sets Atlantis Wooden Swing Set. (New) To fit my yard layout, can the positions of the slide and the rock climbing wall be switched?

    • A. Flip the board on that side or drill the holes that hold the rock wall and you should have no issues.

    • A. It absolutely could with out any major problem. There are however two grab bars at the top of the rock wall that are pre-drilled by manufacture. You would need to pre-drill them on the other side fill in the existing holes to keep water from getting in the wood

    • A. The layout of the swing set is made for balance, safety, and stability. I do not see how you would be able to change the positioning of the slide and rock climbing wall unless you are asking to just swap the slide and rock climbing wall only and if that be the case, I don't see how that would affect anything. However, if your yard layout is that tight for you to have to consider changing the swing set plans, I think you might be better off purchasing a swing set that works for your yard. It will cause less headaches for you. =) I hope this helped.

    • A. My husband, who put the thing together, thinks you could, although you'd have to drill holes to accomodate the slide. The slide and the rock wall are on the same side, though, so I'm not so sure how moving the two items would work?

I bought this for my 2 1/2 year old son and he absolutely loves it. It did require an entire Saturday to put together (12 hours). I was the "helper" for my husband and at 8 months pregnant, I don't know how much I really helped. If he had a more capable assistant, it probably woul've taken ony 8-10 hours to assemble. There are definately some confusing parts in the instructions. They skip a few steps and mis-label a few pieces of wood. It was pretty simple to figure out what was going on, however, once you get going. In the end, we had minor complications and ended up with a beautiful playset that is sturdy and my son loves! Be sure to seal your playset with water sealer, or your waranty will be void. I would recommend spending the extra money to get this set over the other's on the website because the pieces are LABELED and PRE DRILLED. If we had to label or predrill the holes ourselves, this would've taken probably another full day and lots of cursing on my husband's behalf!

My husband and I first ordered this product on March 9th and the first shipment that came was two of the same boxes (the playset comes in two boxes - 1 of 2 and 2 of 2). The replacement box took an extra two weeks and when it did arrive on the day that the delivery company was to deliver they posted a note on their site for me to contact them - turns out the box was damaged and they did not want to deliver it that way. The third box that came about nine of the pieces were damaged and I did not want to return it so both Walmart and myself contacted the Manufacturer and they sent replacement part about 14 days later. All in all it took almost 2 months for us to get the complete order. It took my husband and I a total of 7 days (working about 1 1/2 hour a day on the set while also attending to our 2 and 4 year old daughters) to put it together - including staining and mulching (rubber). My husband even made a bench from the damaged pieces of woods for either the girls or us to sit and relax while they play. I attached some pictures below. We also changed one of the belt swings for a toddler swing. Having the right tools definitely helped the assembly process to go smoothly. I am glad my husband did have clamps to help squeeze some of the wood together so they would fit nicely in. All in all, Walmart did compensate for the hassle and the girls are really having a great time with their new "playground". The joy on their faces made the hassle worthwhile.

Make no mistake, this product takes time to build. I spent a couple of hours inventorying the parts. I took others' advise and spent 2 days sealing the wooden parts with a high quality sealer (not something from the home center shelf). This takes 2 days; one for the top and all sides and one for the bottom; and it covers half of a large 2 car garage. Then I re-used the cardboard box and cut pieces off and labeled them to correspond to each assembly step. I staged all of the wooden parts that were required with each step. Then I took resealable sandwich bags and bagged up the hardware that went with each step. (You will find that the parts list on top of each page doesn't necessarily match what the directions call for; with both wooden and hardware parts.) With all of this done, myself and 2 helpers assembled this play set (without the swings and glider) in 10 hours. We took a few extra steps like installing a ground contact treated wood foundation under the play house and fixtures. (I used to build houses so I have a transit that works great for this.) With all of the work done (and done right), I know my child will be able to enjoy this swing set for years to come, with minimal maintenance from myself.

We purchased this after researching lots of swing sets and chose this one because of the price and reviews. It was a gift for our 4 and 2 year old children. They love it, and as of day 4 of playing with it, it was worth the price. It definitely looks like a more expensive play set, some of our friends were surprised about the price, expecting that we had paid much more than we did. Putting it together took my husband and 2 friends, about 14 hours to put together. They worked really hard and did a great job. I think it also helped that we were organized. Before we had everyone over to help, I printed out the instructions and made labels for each piece of wood that was included in the set. I then labeled and laid them out alphabetically in our garage. My husband collected and organized all of the tools needed, and our friends brought their power drills as well. That took me about 2 hours, but I think it was well worth it because the guys could just go in and grab each piece they needed as they followed the instructions. There were few issues, and the play set looks great! We added several accessories such as the ships wheel, periscope, baby swing, and rhythm band. We were a little surprised at how absolutely nothing came pre-assembled, and some of the stamps for the labeled wood was hard to read, but it all worked out. So far, so good!

The swingset is beautiful once it is assembled but it is time consuming to put up due to the fact that half way through the instructions they go from listing the parts as h1, or r1 to like wnp2002(something like that) so you have to refer back to the front of the book for each part to make sure you have the correct piece. Also it doesn't always specify which washer to use, and we realized we had used the wrong washer halfway through. It all turned out okay in the end but it was still frustrating. The wood also spilts very easily, it says not to over tighten, but tightening at all on some pieces caused it to start spilting. The swing beam is alot smaller than we'd expected; definately need to follow weight requiremnets!Still, we are happy with the results, just wish that the directions would've been clearer, it would've saved A LOT of time.

We bought this for our sons first birthday (with the addition of a toddler swing). My husband and FIL took a day and a half to put it together and thats with even having to go to the hardware store twice! One of the times they went for bolts they stripped a few (not the manufacturers fault). The other time was to get better bolts to hold the swing extention to the playhouse. They didnt feel like the ones that came with it were going to hold. Also it seems the manufacturer changed part numbers half way through and didnt bother to reprint the instructions so the guys had to figure things out from that point on. We feel like this is a great value and will last many many years.

We really depended on the reviews to assist us through the build. Thanks everyone! Hopefully we can offer some insight to help others who purchase this product. We have two daughters...4 and 1. It took my husband from 8:30am-5:30pm to complete the set. He had assistance for about 6 of those hours from a friend. 30 min of the time was spent sorting out the wood. 30 minutes was spent for lunch. 8 hours of build time. One small piece was broken on arrival. We were able to still use it, thankfully. Another piece broke during construction. My husband says, "Do NOT use a hammer!" The wood is indeed soft and spits very easily. It comes with a hex bit for a power drill. He HIGHLY recommends using it!!! Having the drill really saved a LOT of time. My husband and his friend put the numbered side of the wood pieces up... until I came out and asked them to start turning them over... no need for those little black numbers to be showing, right??? Just something to think about before building... some may not think of it. Just as everyone said, the directions were great until a certain point toward the middle/end. They were able to get through it, just as everyone else was, thankfully. For some reason, there were two extra wood pieces left over and a lot of hardware as well.... We will be putting a water sealant on it tomorrow. Everything seems very sturdy. When the kids are on the platform, it goes up and down just a bit, but I'm confident in the support bar underneath. We purchase the wheel to go on the set. I'll attach a photo. The kids loved it. The other photo is of (almost) all of the pieces laid out. The photos that others posted are great and ours looks just like theirs. Perhaps the photo will give you some insight on what the box and pieces are like?? (something different to view, anyway!) Overall, we're thrilled about the purchase and the build. We do wish that the wood was stronger, and hope that it holds up over time... however, for the price, we feel that we got a great product.

I'm glad we read the helpful reviews prior to buying this play set so we were prepared for the assembly to take quite a bit of time. Still, we misread the directions several times and a few other times the directions left out important information (like the correct identification # on the wood pieces to use). We figured it all out in the end (but did have some extra hardware left over - ummm - is that supposed to happen?) We intentionally switched the front and back sections, but that created lots of confusion for us and wouldn't suggest doing that. We are very pleased with our end result and our girls love it! It took my hubby and I two-and-a-half days to build it. We had to level our sloped ground in areas first prior to building the play set, and ended up cutting off the bottom rung of the ladder to make it fit correctly on our sloped lawn. We are happy with our purchase and would recommend this play set.

Love The Swing Set, Hated The Assembly
    8/8/2010

    Customer review by BlueLightSpecialist

Overall, the swing set itself is nice. I love it, my daughter completely loves it. We live in a rural area and therefore have to drive to public playgrounds and then deal with other big kids pushing and rough play. So out of fear of my daughter getting hurt, I decided it was time to purchase her a swing set of her own. She is 2 and has outgrown her little plastic "baby swingset and slide." First of all, I completely agree with some of the other complaints about the quality of the wood. The swing sets in other stores that cost twice as much do have better quality lumber. So keep that in mind while deciding on purchasing this one. There is one photo with the product description that is misleading. It pictures a little boy climbing the rock wall and upon comparison to the actual swing set, that photo is not even the Atlantis. The photo shows 4x4's for the main legs, the Atlantis actually has 2x4's holding up the entire clubhouse section. It is braced rather well however. I was just dissapointed that the photo was misleading. Also the wood does have a light coating on it and in order for the warranty to be honored, you do need to apply a clear coat annually. I waited about 4 weeks after assembly to coat it and unfortunately, the wood had already started to splinter and peel. I remedied that by applying a ceder tinted wood protecter and it made the wood one shade darker with a glossy fininsh. I love the way it looks. So apply a protective coat immediately!! The biggest problem was indeed the assembly. Most of the complaints in the other reviews are accurate. In fact, this is a project that requires professional contracting tools and most likely, a professional contractor! I am a single mom so I enlisted the help of my step-father, and his friend and wife on the first day. I was kicked out of my own project. There was a MAJOR case of "too many chiefs and not enough indians" and directions were misread and never double checked before pieces were assembled. That is obviously of no fault of the company but none-the-less, a total pain. So the second day, I enlisted the help of my brother and read the directions myself. We spent most of the first day taking things apart and putting them together correctly. So after that initial situation was remedied, we were about halfway through the project and that is when things started to become complicated. That part is the fault of the company. As mentioned in other reviews, the directions did change towards the end and become very complicated. At the top of every page in the assembly instruction booklet, there is a list of materials and hardware and tools that you need to complete each step. The lumber is marked with a letter and then a number. But towards the end of the booklet, the product number is listed instead of the actual markings on the lumber. That is when you need to get out the lumber checklist that comes in each box and decifer the code and look for the lumber stamp in order to ensure that you are using the correct piece of lumber. It just takes longer and became quite annoying. Another issue with assembly is that sometimes the instruction booklet would list a specific piece of hardware in the "items needed" section and then switch the measurements and hardware when it came to the actual assembly. My brother did have to call the friendly and helpful people on the 1-800 number listed on the front of the book to clarify that. I do have to say that the operators standing by, taking people's calls are very friendly and really do go out of their way to remedy any problems that you may have. We also had an issue when putting the slide on with one barrell nut not having the threads in it. They immediately expedited shipping with no cost to me to replace that barrell nut and gave us several extra pieces of hardware. So I was very happy and satisfied with the company's customer service. The final major problem was that the two green metal brackets that attatch the legs to the main swing beam would not line up correctly with the pre-drilled holes in the lumber. Again, my brother called customer service to find out if it was something that we were doing wrong, or if it was a mistake on their part. Ultimately, my brother ended up having to slightly bend the green brackets in order to get the holes to line up. That was a pain to do and of course, took up more time. Also, due to warped wood (again, the quality of the lumber wasn't the greatest) my brother did have to saw off some of the width of a board that went on the front of the imagination station part in order to get it to fit in. He tried tapping it in with a mallett and it just wouldn't go, so it had to be trimmed. It isn't really even noticeable, just again, time consuming and annoying!! The biggest complaint was about the amount of piecework that needed to be done. It was so time consuming!! Nothing was pre-assembled, right down to the boards on the bay windows. I mean, you open these two huge boxes and become completely overwhelmed by all of these teeny tiny little pieces. I was dissapointed that the company couldn't have made it a little easier on the consumer by having some of it pre-assembled. I have never bought a product where every single piece needs to be assembled yourself. Another complaint was that most of the lumber was pre-drilled....but my brother still had to do a lot of drilling, including buying two different sets of drill bits and making several phone calls in order to aquire the correct drill bit required to drill the holes for the green handles by the rock wall. Again, completely annoying and a waste of time!! Due to weather and circumstances (the first day being our own fault) it actually took seven days from start to finish to complete the assembly. So like I mentioned before, not only do you need professional contracting tools to build this thing, but you also should just have a professional contractor do it to save time and the headache!! Another word of advice, just keep the assembly to a two person minimum. Too many people causes too much confusion and that's when mistakes were made. Overall though, it really is a beautiful swing set and my daughter just adores it. I also have 14 nieces and nephews and so all the kids have enjoyed playing on it. I hung my daughter's baby swing in place of one of the regular swings, and I put a used plastic play kitchen in the "imagination station" area under the clubhouse and another learning toy with bead mazes and tic tac toe up in the clubhouse. I also purchased wooden block letters that that I have painted bright yellow to match, and so above the clubhouse doorway is my daughter's name. So we added to it and made it our own. I really do love this swing set however, I definately hated the assembly! Once you get past that though, your little one(s) should have a beautiful swing set for years to come. ***NOTE*** to the guy who inquired about the **N1 swing block piece*** : The N1 swing block is the small thin board that goes on the bottom, left hand side of the main clubhouse part. It's purpose is to prevent a little one from running out of that side of the imagination station directly into the traffic of the swings...hence the name "swing block". I'm sure that it also adds extra support and durability to the main frame as well. You do have to drill those holes yourself in order to place the N1 piece there. But make sure you get that up and in place for your little one's safety. =)

    Worth the $$$ and time

Further down the paragraph, I placed some particular "pointers" for certain steps which hopefully will save you some heartache. The product itself is 5 stars for the $$, but the instruction manual makes it an overall 4 star. Aside from minor defects in three of the boards, all the parts were in good shape. At the end of the project, I asked for replacements. You have 30 days from time of purchase. It had been a long time since my wife and I put something together...together.. Some general recommendations: Pray, don’t be in a hurry, use two people, and agree ahead of time to double check each other to prevent redo’s. We put the main structure (house) together on the porch and moved it with 5 people (4 women and one guy) to the yard before attaching the swing assembly, slide, steps, and rock climbing wall. Do your inventory first to account for all items. The manual tells you what items to retrieve for each step and I highly recommend that you lay aside the items needed for each step, keeping them separate from all other items you don’t need for that step; the boards are pretty well labeled, but the hardware needed for each step takes a lot of time to figure out. Why? Even though the hardware comes in bags labeled with numbers and even though the inventory you did earlier uses those handy numbers, the company decided not to use those numbers to help you retrieve the items you need for each step. Instead, they tell you to retrieve, for example, two 5/16" x 1 bolts. So you have to look thru some 30 bags to read the description on the bag instead of a simple number. So after you do your inventory, sit down at your leisure for the next hour or two to jot down the number of the bag next to each hardware item you need for each step. Call the company if you need to. You don't want to use the wrong hardware only to find out you need it later. In fact, the only time I called the company was to ask questions about what hardware to use. In addition to 18 hours it took to put together, I also spent 5 hours using Behr Transparent Wood Finish Cedar Natural tone, which keeps the color of the set about the same. Because my yard is not level, I could either bury a portion of the set or I could, as I did, use 4x4 fence posts laid horizontally to build a platform to set it on. This will also prevent wood rot. I secured the platform into the ground with 16" 2x4 treated wood stakes and used brackets to secure the set to the platform. It's not going anywhere. See attached pictures. Some pointers for each step from my 4/26/11 manual: Step 1: add four H5 floor supports under items needed. Pay attention to the pilot holes on E1 and E2. Step 2: attach K3 at end of the step instead of as directed. K3 uses screws and you should first attach all the boards with predrilled holes and bolts Step 4: the floor is made up of M3 and a N2 board, which combined are wider than the frame by 1 inch. Put excess on the E3 side and make it flush on the E1 and E2 side because your stairs are going there later. Step 5: Before screwing in M1, put M9 at top of E1 and E5 temporarily to make sure it will fit later. Step 13: just a suggestion: instead of using the M11 boards to make a solid wall between the E3’s, we will (not done yet) spread them out between E-1 and E-3 also to prevent kids from accidentally stepping out into the path of the swings. We just ordered 4 extra boards at $2.00 each when ordered replacement for a few boards with minor defects in them. Step 20 and Step 21: The M20 and M18 boards that the instructions state you need for the slide. The three boards you have left are actually not labeled M20 and M18...can't remember what they were labeled, but they were the right ones. Step 20: In figure 2 it says to be 1/4" away from the edge of the slide. I would do 3/8" instead because it will help the slide slip in better in step 21. Step 22. We had to loosen all the bolts of the A100059 metal frame in order to get the P1 legs to fit into A100057 metal frame. Then we tightened them a little at a time.
