Best feeder available.

Seems like I've tried em all and this Perky Pet Grand Master is the best of the bunch (not perfect, but as good as it gets). My only complaint is that there aren't bigger feeders available as even with these 48 oz feeders, I still need to refill them every day (and I use 2:1 nectar rather than 4:1 to lessen the number of feedings each hummer has to make to get the necessary calories). With several hundred strong hummer flock, I need 6-8 feeders and I go thru about 700 lbs sugar a year. This feeder is far and away the easiest to clean and fill of any of the feeders I've owned - you can get your hand inside both the base and the top acrylic part for easy cleaning. A small brush to wipe the corners is all that is needed. And a clean feeder (and unspoiled nectar) is far and away the most important thing you need... To get the "perfect" feeder, I'd like to see more feeding ports (I've modified other feeders to handle 12 hummers at a time, but due to the special feeding ports and lack of continuous perch on this model it's not possible on this feeder). As for those who want glass container, it would be too heavy for a feeder with 48 oz capacity. And I prefer acrylic anyway - far more durable when you inevitably drop one...

I love this hummingbird feeder. I use to have to fill the one on my front porch 2 times a day because it only held 24 oz. My husband had to pitch in if I was gone for awhile during day. However, I wish Perky Pet and every other maker of hummingbird feeders would quit picturing the feeders with red colored nectar. Who only knows what that red dye will do to the hummingbirds in years to come. The red on the feeder itself is enough red to attract a hummingbird. They will come into your garage just for the red handle on a garage door - which you should also paint a different color. That is all the red it takes to attract a hummingbird. Thank you for reading this.

The birds LOVE this feeder. I have eight assorted feeders / styles hanging off my deck, right outside of my kitchen window. This summer am hosting my largest colony ever, thanks to this GREAT feeder. Often, there will be six birds attempting to use this feeder at once! Apparently, the spacing of the flower openings and perches is comfortable for males and females. It holds an amazing amount of juice (which my flock empties every other day!). It assembled easily, it is easy to fill, and mine does not spill at all. This is a wonderful design and the best addition to my collection.

  • Bottom part is solid. It doesn't come apart, but removing the feed cylinder gives you plenty of room to clean.

  • Yes. The tank part is wide mouth and would be very easy to clean. The tank should screw into the base, not with threads but with plastic catches on the red part and small openings on the tank part.

  • the bottom red tray only separates from the clear cylinder. It does however have enough room to get your hand in there with a sponge or brush for thorough cleanings.

  • Hello! The tube twist into the red bottom part. The only problem is that the AZ sun causes the plastic to expand, so it is very hard and messy to put back together.

  • No, but you can easily fit a dishcloth or brush into the edges in order to thorougly clean it.

  • The bottom doesn't need to come apart as the diameter of the opening is large enough to wipe a cloth or sponge around. All parts are easy to clean and reassemble. Nectar does not leak from mine.

  • I would say it unscrews. There are not really threads but you put the top into the bottom and twist once and the two are secure to each other. It is nice that the cylinder is large. Can get your hand into it for cleaning.
