I bought the black max combo at the start of the summer and it was going to be my first baitcaster ever even the guy at the store said it was to be the hardest baitcaster to use but with about a couple weeks of practice just throwing a sinker around the yard I be come good at it and now I fell in love with baitcasters and I can't thank Abu Garcia enough

Great reel

I bought this reel as part of the BMAX3 Combo from Sail (Canada, eh?) back in February or March 2017; spent months staring at it until opening season at the cottage. This was my first baitcasting setup and it's been amazing. 2 years later and it still runs as perfect as day one. I've caught a lot of Bass and Pike with this setup with zero problems. I throw a lot of spinners out so I picked up a 3rd party power handle for it. I know it can't wait to hit the water again this Spring!

Extremely Happy

I now have four left-hand Blackmax's and I'm planing on all ten of my bait-casting rods to eventually have nothing but these same reals. I haven't had any problems with backlashes at all. Just a note--I don't use my thumb at all, and can cast approximately 75 to 80 feet easily without a backlash.

i baught this from Cabelas and i am very pleased with it! i caught my first bass on it so it defanetly has some sentamental value now. the botton is getting kind of hard to press though, so i might need a replacement

Awesome product!

I’ve had my black max for 5 years. I’ve caught many large bass with it. Just love the feel and the action. You just have to set it for you.  I will buy two more and a spinning combo soon for my back ups.  And you can’t beat the price. Just Awesome.  Keep your lines wet people

Best baitcaster ever

I bought this 6 years ago as a backup when I sent my Ambassadeur in for a bearing swap. It's my go to reel now. After a couple casts I was able to dial it in to the point of casting a 1/4oz cannon ball with no thumb and no back lash. I use it for Coho, Steelhead, and bass. Handles all well. If I'm going for Chinook or anything larger than 15 pounds I'll use my Ambassadeur only because of the extra li e storage.

Best reel for you buck

I had the black max 2 for 5 years had no problem what so ever upgraded it to the black max 3 ,4 months ago and I am very pleased with it can't complain about anything I am catching a lot of fish with it [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Reliable product

I bought the Black Max and paired it up with the Vigilante 6'6" medium action bait casting rod. I like everything about the real the only problem I have with real is that it back lashes a lot easier than my other bait casters.

Smooth real

I bought this real about a month ago as my very first baitcaster. Played with it in my yard and after learning how to adjust it I haven’t had a single problem out of it. The rod that comes with the combo is OK but the reel is nice and smooth and easy to use. Have landed a dozen bass over 3 pounds and my personal best as well.

Easy to use.

I got my first black max couple years ago. I fished the shores of Southern California for halibuts to surf perch. I have fished the concrete river (California aqueduct) for strikers to large mouth. The best low profile baitcaster for everyday use.

These reels are trash. Ive had two and the first one didnt even work so took it back got a different one. Used the new one maybe three times then put new line on it and it did the same thing. Broke and wouldnt reel in. Dont waste your money on these..
