I have tried several ways to watch tv, and hear the show, without driving everyone else out of the house. I tried rechargable wireless headphones that worked on radio frequency, but I got lots of interference and could not find a place for the receiver/transmitter that would eliminate that interference. I moved to wired headphones with an extension to reach my chair. That was good until I wanted to get up for a second, and then I had to pause the show and remove the headphones to do it.I bought these Able Planet headphones after reading reviews elsewhere that rated them top of the line for value. I found them a bit cheaper on other websites, but I got these headphones delivered free to my house and did not pay any tax. That was a better value for me.The only flaw in the headphones is that I hear quite a bit of noise in them before I start a tv show. Once the sound starts coming through the headphones I no longer hear the other noise. I found that by turning the volume control on the headphones to about the half way position and using my remote to control the sound of the tv, the noise I hear before the show starts is slight. The sound quality of the dialog and music coming through the headphones seems to be very good. I can hear every word the actors are saying. Because these headphones are infrared instead of radio frequency, I do not get any static at all while watching tv.The drawback to IR of course is that it is line-of-sight. But I can get up and walk somewhere else, as long as I stay in front of the tv, without missing any dialog or having to pause and remove everything like I was doing with the wired headphones. The headphones are powered by batteries. They have an automatic shut off feature when you remove them from your head, so I assume the batteries will last quite a while. The receiver/transmitter is AC powered so you don't have to worry about it. The cord for the receiver/transmitter is the small variety, so if you have an audio video receiver like I do, you will probably need an adapter to fit the small plug from these headphones into the big headphone jack on your receiver. The headphones rest on the outside of your ears. They are not the cup variety that go over your entire ear. In spite of this I can hear the tv very well when wearing them. The headband is supposed to be adjustable for a snug fit, but unless I misunderstood the directions, they are only adjustable enough to fit great big heads. They are not going to fit snugly on a small head. But the headphones stay in place quite well when I am sitting still watching tv.If your situation is similar to mine, I would certainly recommend these headphones without reservation. 12/15/2012
Rated 4 out of 5★ by northshoresteve sound quality is good for tv & music sound is good for tv and music. very clear. signal reception good all around our large dining/ living room. Note - it is line of sight so u have to be in same room but worked even parallel to transmitter & good 20-25' away. materials are good & well made/ designed ( like the auto power switch in headset - shuts off when you put them down - the ear piece rotates flat & turns off power). Works perfectly with our LCD tv. My plasma emits some Ir which created some noise but placing transmitter in front of tv eliminated that for our normal sitting positions so then worked fine. I'll be careful in choosing next tv as this ir is best tech for wireless. Has volume control on ear piece. 12/16/2012
Rated 4 out of 5★ by Richcharm great product my husband and I are both hearing impaired. This is the second headset we have purchased so now we can use these in two locations in our home. The older one did break on one side but my husband was able to repair it. We are very satisfied. 03/05/2013
