This product can be used as a phone by using a calling application such as Skype or Whatsapp.

You can use Skype and google voice with it. With Skype you can call land lines and cell phones.

I use Google Hangouts to make calls--ported my (free) Google Voice number to Hangouts and installed the app. You can make video, text or voice calls from the app directly from the phone. Other apps might work too, but I find GH really easy!

I have inserted a 64 GB Micro SD in mine.

1) It CAN make and receive phone calls (with calling app).  In fact, it&#39;s targeted as an ATT Go Phone. Under the ATT apps on the phone, in fact, a sidebar will even list your ATT phone number!   Good luck figuring out how to actually DIAL from that number. I don&#39;t care though; I am using Google Hangouts to make/receive calls. I also am using Tracfone on it instead of ATT; the goPhone plans were $25/month--no thanks. 
2)The SIM it takes is a micro (not nano) SIM.  You can use any other service with this phone, not just ATT. Tracfone sent me (in less than 24 hours for $6) a combo micro/SIM kit so you can choose your size. However, this takes micro SIM AND it can also take an SD card (not included).
3)The SIMs are a little odd, there is no release button or bar. I took me a few minutes to figure out it&#39;s the old press-in to release and install until it clicks (metal side down, cut out notch to back) in place. No tools are necessary as there is nothing to depress, etc. 
4) It comes with an ATT SIM but you can install your own (based on the company&#39;s policy you&#39;re switching to). You&#39;ll have to go into settings and redo APN settings (settings&gt;cellular&gt;APN profiles) if you switch your SIM; your company can provide you with those.
 5) I&#39;m providing this info since I figured it all out over the course of a day--I don&#39;t care about my minutes with Tracfone since I&#39;ll use Google Hangouts to call/receive calls texts when away from wifi.  I just needed the super-cheap Tracfone rollover data service for data away from wifi. This worked great.

You should be able to, ATT is unlocked for most prepaid carriers--it will depend on your location, service providers, and network coverage, however. You&#39;ll want to check Straight Talks site for BYOP programs and see if you can bring ATT, which is how this phone is built with initial GoPhone settings. However, you can upgrade those settings (and even upgrade to Android 5.1 for free) :-)

Camera

What a great little tablet! I was honestly looking for a cheaper, LARGER smartphone than my iPhone 6s Plus. Yes, I said LARGER! At 7" x 4" (screen), it fits right in my purse, even with a Bobj silicone bumper case (Amazon). 

About:

1)This is an Asus Memo Pad 4G LTE Go Phone. Our WM had it not listed in inventory online or on shelves--I actually saw the bright-orange prepay-bubble type box when I asked to see stock for another tablet. I think they had 2. So check your WM for this! It was only $40, so it was a no-brainer. I added the 2-year service contract, which is super-simple and literally provides you an instant barcode (credit) to use at WM if your device fails (we've use the contracts for Nexxus tablets before)

2)A Bobj silicone bumper fits this great. Be sure you order LTE model.  I don't know if WM carries these, but the other big online retailer does.

3)Use ATT wizard to connect for free and buy data plan. On one of the ATT service app sidebars,  it will even show your phone number (if you buy at a local WM, I guess the devices come pre-programmed with local numbers--can't say if this is true if you buy it online or from a non-local WM!). However,  there is really no way to use this as your number since there's no dialer app (I dont' think, I didn't use ATT, but that's later), unless you port this number to a different service provider. But you dont' need that, because you can use the tablet....

4)and a free app like Google Voice or Google Hangouts to make/receive calls. I already had a Google Voice number (not gmail account); I actually set this up for free long ago using a non-google email (when you set it up, you can enter any email you want. You don't have to use google). Install GV first after you get your free number, then install GH and it will prompt you to move your calls there, to that screen. I made this icon my "phone dialer", where the iphone phone icon usually goes. 

5)I updated it to Android 5.1 from 4.4 for free. This took about a day after activating my phone, walking through ATT app (didn't chooose it however, chose Tracfone instead, I'll get to that). Just check System Updates and the download happened today, after I connected to data. Be prepared--it takes a long time to install the update, but I did it over Wifi, in fact, and just made sure I had enough battery.

6)I switched over to Tracfone right away from ATT Go Phone. The plans were $25/month. I already use Tracfone for our iPhones, so I knew Tracfone would be cheaper. I ordered a Micro Sim yesterday online from them and got it today via Fed Ex. Installing took some time, and you have to re-enter your APN codes from your service provider's website. Even after you enter them, be prepared you may not have data right away. But, I'm paying about $11/month for Tracfone, data rolls over, and I will only use data on this device when I'm not home or using free Wifi. Like, in the car. Again, be patient--you'll have to wait for the updates to reach your phone and SIM. If you use pre-installed ATT, it might be easier. 

7)I came from iOS, so I have played around with the settings all day yesterday. I removed bloatware, and ran a NovaLauncher emulator to make it look more like iOS (and work from the drawer seeing app icons directly, rather than the typical Android desktop). You can google how to do this---it's really easy.

8)For less than $50 (new SIM included),  I have a 5.1 Android tablet/phone. I can toggle on data and make/receive calls when I'm away from home, at a cost of 
$12 a month. 

Ask for this tablet at your WM! It's probably locked in a case with none on display or tagged on display. Ours were just sitting there, unpriced.  Sure glad I asked her to scan it and kept an open mind. I LOVE this tablet--if I can attach a pic, I will.  

Really love it after updating the  4.4 to 5.1. Makes such a difference, and it kept all my settings and layout. 

Again, just be patient!!! when updating the OS and when/if switching SIM cards. The network updates and software updates may not "see" your device right away--then out of the blue today, after connecting to data, there's my Android 5.1 update. 

Thanks for reading my review. Tablet is responsive, and I'm reaching for it more than my iPad for it's smaller size and portability--again, it fits in my purse. I always said I wanted a larger screen than my iPhone 6s Plus has, and this fits the bill and then some!

This tablet is a good replacement tablet for a Nexus 7 2nd Gen.. for $168 it's the best tablet for the money. It's fast snappy bright display and updates to marshmallow. Quality Asus product.

Memo pad HD7

Does everything I want it to do. Bought it Sunday at my local Walmart for $79.00.
The next morning I was able to update the device through AT&T to Android 5.1.1.

I have watched music videos, played games, watched the weather, surfed the net. Even connected it to my Windows 10 Desktop to upload/download images. Taken with the back facing camera(it also has a forward facing camera as well).

Over all I'm glad I bought it.

Love it

Have been using this for about a month now and has been working great for surfing the web, checking email, and playing some games.  Love the fact it connects to both Wi-Fi and my 4g LTE data plan.  Accepts microSD cards for adding storage capacity.

I have got one and the tablet part will not work after I had in less then a year .I bought another one and now less then 6 months It now do not work so I am looking for another one.

It is easily scratched. It played a movie with a few stalls, was a bit slow in general doing tasks. Never was able to afford the phone function. The camera was decent but blurry is at night. It died after powering down for no apparent reason. I didn't drop it. Never got the warranty though still might have enough time to. So disappointed it died.
