Rated 5 out of 5★ by Reznok Truly Epic I do not read very often, but still, this is one of the finest novels I have ever read. It's a mature epic fantasy, where danger is all around, and none of the characters seem to be able to do for anything but themselves. Political backstabbing, gruesome punishments, and even humor are part of this story. I can't wait to read the next one, and anyone who likes the tv show will love this book! 06/23/2011
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Kellyb123 Awesome story Absolutely loved this book. Watched the HBO series too and enjoyed that but the book has so much more detail. It's a fantasy adventure story in a medieval world. I'm currently reading the 4th book in the series. The characters are complex and interesting, the lineage and history can be a little overwhelming but it is much easier reading for me than the Lord of the Rings was (never got through those). 08/23/2011
Rated 4 out of 5★ by Sqwiggles So, I've been hearing a lot in the social media about A Game of Thrones. I decided I wanted to see what it was about. I want to watch the tv show, but when I found out it is based on books, I wanted to read the books first. I love to read and prefer to read a book before I watch the show/movie. I know that there are tons of reviews on this book, but mine is from a different perspective. The books I usually read are Christian historical romance novels. They all have sappy love stories and happy endings. A Game of Thrones was definitely a change from that! When I first started reading I didn't think I would get into it, but I continued and eventually I did. I found myself interested in the characters and slowly was drawn into the story. I like that there is some romance in the book. One thing I notice towards the end is that it is nothing like my romance novels. In A Game of Thrones it doesn't always go the way you want it to, people you like die, and it isn't always a happy ending. With that said, I still liked the book. It is also an interesting read because every chapter is from a different characters perspective. So, when a chapter on one character ends with a cliffhanger and you want to know what's next, you might have to read 5 chapters before you come back the the character. The book ended really well and I can't wait to start the next one and I'm also looking forward to finally watching the show to see how well it stays true to the books and to see the story come alive. 06/09/2013
