Great mixer for the price paid. Does what I need it to do. Picked the unit because of the stand and ease of use.

I am a home baker and just didn't have the money to spend on one of those high dollar stand mixers that charge you as much if not more for any and all accessories to go with it... I have been using a hand mixer or plain old elbow grease to get my baking needs done... An issue with my hands has forced me into using more "tools" to complete my tasks in the kitchen... I looked into several options and decided to try this one... As I have borrowed from my sister her higher costing and more heavy duty stand mixer in the past (Boy those things weigh a ton), I really wasn't expecting this one to perform like hers... It is light weight, a little flimsy in the turntable area, the multi-speed button sticks a little and kinda catches when trying to move the mixer into the "up" position... Over all though - It works and does the job well!!! It makes beautiful fluffy icing in a fraction of the time it took me to do it by hand... SO worth the price that I may buy a second one so I can whip up meringue and icing at the same time!!!

Hamilton Beach Mixer

I purchased this item at Walmart.com as a Christmas gift. The package arrived a week later than I was told it would and the box had clearly been wet. The shipping box it arrived in was fine, but the mixer box itself had been in water. The mixer inside the box had apparently been a returned item because the attachments were not wrapped, the mixer cord was unwound, and it had not been packaged back the correct way. The mixer did work so I am using it for the gift I purchased it for, but it is very disappointing to see that this was obviously a returned item that was never checked by Walmart before being resold. Will think twice next year about ordering online from Walmart. The reason I ordered a lot of my Christmas gifts this year online was because of the convenience, but I still expect decent customer service. This situation was clearly anything but that.

Hamilton Beach Hand/Stand Mixer Model# 64650

If you are looking to get a cheap item for cheap then this item would be perfect for you. I used it 4 times and the motor started to smoke, heat up, and set off the fire alarm. I was simply making a batch of red velvet cookies which is made from the actual cake mix so not a firm mixture at all. Limited Warranty please read it before you buy this product or any Hamilton Beach product as it does not cover the following on as part of this product: 1 yr. limited warranty states that it does not cover the following: clutches, motor brushes, and/or agitators so what is the point of even bothering with a warranty at all. There is more listed so basically only 5% of this product falls under their 1 yr. limited warranty coverage. Also information on product ie: model & series# were not listed anywhere on the product and only found the model number on the back of the instruction booklet which was written in Spanish only no English version of that information was given. If you want to get one I will sell you mine for $10.00 ... that is about all it is worth if even that :-(

I use a mixer only at the holidays now since I've retired. I have cooked for up to 100 folks in a volunteer organization and had a Kitchenaid mixer to use then which made food preparation go quickly and smoothly. I have moved several times since then and finally gave my professionall grade Kitchenaid to a friend's son who is an aspiring chef. I thought this mixer would be sufficient since I don't use it much. How wrong I was! The only item I make now is a party cheese ball recipe I've made for over 40 years that everyone wants for several large parties... and this mixer doesn't even blend soft cheese spreads easily. It takes three times longer to blend the room temperature cheeses even close to the consistency needed before adding the other ingredients. If you are mixing light batters this likely will work for you, but I'm going to invest in the 4.5 quart Kitchenaid mixer this fall even though I will only use it a few times a year.

The mixer works fine but the turntable does not turn at all times. The mixer itself does not swing up while on the stand so you can remove the beaters or the bowl. It does not come off of the stand easily and if you are not very careful when you attach it to the stand it will fall off. I would not recommend or purchase again.

A Little Gem
8/23/2008

Customer review by GrannyEmm

5.0 stars 8/23/2008 by GrannyEmm

Review: Hamilton Beach Stand / Handheld mixer First impressions of this little gem were deceiving. Everything about it is so lightweight!, it seemed unlikely it could be a good kitchen tool. But I gave it a chance with a mixer-friendly banana bread recipe and liked this mixer's design features. WARNING: This is not a user friendly machine if you don't read the directions before first use. Once you know what all the buttons and levers are for, the great design features will convince you it's the safest, handiest small mixer you can buy. But you could easily break it if you take the engineering graduate route and only read the directions when you can't make it work. If you're a busy cook who needs to make very large batches or leaves the mixer to do a job while you work on something else, this isn't the mixer for you. But if you enjoy being an in control, participatory cook, it's a great little helper, saving wear and tear on your arm's stirring muscles, but allowing you to intervene handily with spatula, etc. during the mixing process. The stainless steel bowl is wide enough so you can add ingredients or use a spatula without interfering with the beaters. Because of the very light weight of all its components, this mixer is ideal for a senior citizen kitchen, the RV, or cabin as well as for any other home use. When disassembled, it can be stored in a very small space. And it's both a stand mixer and a hand mixer, so you only need the one machine for all the jobs. The mixer I learned to use as a young girl at home was a Hamilton Beach. I'm glad the company is still putting out good product. Caveat: I haven't tried it on any heavy batters yet, but wanted to share the good things about this nice little mixer as quickly as possible.

This stand mixer is so easy to use, it is not overly loud. I like that food items can be added while it is running, it mixes and turns the bowl at the same time.

Fast Mixing Prowess
1/3/2015

Customer review by APonymous

I do lots of baking for my daughter's school bake sales. I bought this for mixing batters that require the adding of ingredients while still mixing. A powerful mixer for batters with super fast mixing. One drawback is the design flaw of the bowl that comes with the mixer. Dry ingredients like flour tend to get caught in the "lip" or "crease" or "crevice" at the bottom. It requires lots of bowl scraping with a spatula to ensure the mixture of all ingredients. A little extra effort does get the job done well. Additionally, I have to rotate the bowl a lot more than I should have too. I also would not recommend using this mixer for thicker cookie doughs when adding dry ingredients. However, this mixer would/could cream and fluff butter and sugars to smooth accuracy with some extra bowl scraping. Notwithstanding my minor complaints, this mixer is worth the price I paid and does accomplish my intended task of mixing batters.

So far the product is performing well. I don't have much experience with stationary mixers, but this one does what I want it to do well. It has enough power but maybe strains a little. I suspect from the reviews that I read before purchase that others were expecting a lot more than they were paying for. I have no problem using it - the blades and portable attachments work well once you get used to it. I'm very satisfied so far. Durability can only be established over time. I suspect that given the frequency that I will be using it - it will work well as long as I don't force the motor beyond it's capacity. You know when a motor is straining.

Good little mixer

Customer review by KulinaryKid

I'm a culinary student at my local community college and fell in love with the baking classes above all else. So, naturally, when we used the mixers at school and I saw all that could be achieved with such ease using those I wanted one. Problem was, I was operating on a college kid budget, so I didn't have the hundred-something dollars to spend on a Kitchen Aid. Well, problem solved! The Hamilton Beach 6-Speed Classic Mixer isn't quite up to par with a Kitchen Aid, but it works very well. The bowl is light weight but built tough and it has a nice shine to it. The attachments are heavy and durable and do exactly what they're supposed to. I was especially surprised by the bread hooks! The speeds are all fantastic and the first day I got this I used it to make a buttercream frosting which turned out just like it had in class. The only thing I was disappointed in was the base for the bowl. It's off-kilter, so the beaters/ hooks/ whisk isn't centered and, instead of the attachments moving around the inside of the bowl, the base spins once moved by the force of the attachment. The end result it that whoever's operating the mixer will probably have to give the bowl a spin or two during the mixing process to get everything well-mixed. All in all, I would honestly recommend this to a friend even with the issue of the spinning base. It's still much better than mixing by hand or using a handheld mixer.
