Can't Beat This Shelf This is the same shelf in the Crate and Barrel Catalog for over $150, and the same shelf JCPenney put on sale for $99.99. It doesn't look like something you picked up on sale because you needed the shelf space. It is a decorator's piece. It is solid - not flimsy, and looks like I decorated my entire room around it. I bought it off of the website unseen because of the reviews. I was a little concerned because the picture was too small to see the detail closely. Also because of the cost I wasn't expecting it to be a solid decorator's piece. I worried for nothing! It surpassed my expectations. I put this together myself with a 9 month old crawling around. Everything was included and no parts were missing. Even my glue was fresh and worked great. Once I had it assembled I could tell it was the same high price piece that I had book-marked in the other retailer's catalogs which I wanted but didn't want to spend the money. I love this piece and admire it every time I walk into the room. I HIGHLY recommend this shelf unit. 07/17/2008
a good product - a good price The picture on the website makes it appear the bookcase is black but it is actually very dark brown. I have seen similar bookcases in other stores and all of them were more expensive. I am pleased with the quality of this product. It is not pressboard and is sturdy. I was kind of skeptical about a bookcase such as this because I was worried it may not be secure or steady but I have this thing loaded with books and some house plants and not only is it secure, it also looks extremely attractive. I think this is a good product and a good price and am probably going to buy a second one. 12/29/2008
Awesome, but buy glue. I bought this shelf along with the 3-column shelf/desk piece in the same finish. They look great together, and people usually think it is a wall unit from ikea.Assembly -- not very hard, but the glue that comes with the shelf which you use to glue the wooden dowels was gooey and couldn't be poured, so we had to buy carpenter's glue.Shipping -- I had it sent to the local store and picked it up. This one wasn't too heavy. Finish was slightly chipped in a couple of spots from the shipping. 11/29/2007
Good shelving unit Very nicely made. I was surprised by the quality & how sturdy this was. It is ideal for my husband's personal items. We placed it in the bedroom so he uses it as a kind of valet, but with room for everything. It looks good while serving its purpose. 01/05/2010
