It's not real wood (particle board) but the way it's laminated, it seems to be pretty solid. I was impressed with the products.

Yes. the space where the wide bins go is just like the other shelf. The small bin space is just like the other shelf but divided.

Yes. The fabric bins/drawers are for items that could fall out easily, but they are really just for color aesthetics.

I would say yes. The fabric bins just slide in to the space made available for them. I don't see why you could not take them out and use the space. In fact all the spaces on this shelf can hold the bins. In other words I can rearrange the bins and put them in different spaces, especially the big ones.
