Learned the hard way that the $45 plan I choose was more than I needed. Very rarely use the call side of the plan. Use 99% of the time for texts. SO I bought a $30 plan - found that I am NOT allowed to change the plan. ST added the $30 plan and I lost a week of service. To explain - $45.00 bought 30 days of full service. Tried to change the plan - they added the card and I got only 21 days of full service. I was told that I would have to purchase a totally new ST service and change the number in order to have a $30.. plan. Voice mail recordings are always static and are not always clear. Customer service is poor. I have called in a few times for help. When the rep is done with the task they have just hung up. This caused me to have to call back, hold through the queue and then ask for help again for the other questions I needed hello with. When you want to add a pre-paid card in reserve - you must call or chat in. I need a second phone for my crafting business - I defiantly will NOT be buying that service with Straight Talk.

Easy Exchange Program
2/2/2016

Customer review by CrazyBirdman

I have been a Straight Talk customer for several years & have been fairly satisfied with them. In October 2014 I bought a Samsung Galaxy S4. I was offered the "Easy Exchange" warranty program & I bought it. January 14th 2016 my phone failed. I reported the phone was broke & they sent me a prepaid FedEx envelope which took about four days to get. I also had to pay a $49.00 deductible. I sent the phone back as instructed. It is now February 1st & I still don't have a replacement phone. Not only do I not have a phone, Straight Talk isn't sure when my replacement phone will be shipped. I have been without a phone for over two weeks with no real idea of when I will get a phone. THE "EASY EXCHANGE" PROGRAM IS A JOKE. Once I get a new phone I will be dropping Straight Talk & going with a carrier that will let me bring my own phone.

Excellent Product but not exactly "hassle" free!

Love the service, picks up everywhere and is economical. The process of ordering online is NOT "hassle-free". Unfortunately the time delay of 24-48 hours especially if your item gets put on "hold" to make sure not fraud is not easy. Even after you call in to verify it's still delayed. I would recommend buying a couple days before you actually need in order for the delay not to affect you. I buy this every month and go through the exact same thing every month. You would think they would know it's me based on my ip address and same product every month.

Is it really unlimited?? I use a lot of minutes and can't find anywhere where it says there is a limit at all.

  • A. Towards the end of the month, the data gets slow, but I get around that by turning the wifi on. Anytime I am home, my phone routes through my home internet instead of using up data on the phone. I've found that allows me to have plenty left for when I am out and about.

  • A. no..it is not unlimited data. and it says so in very tiny print on the straight talk cards you buy. I found out when I let my visiting niece use my phone the two days my computer was down. She watched movies, read books, facebooked, messaged for almost 8 hours a day (she said she loved me dearly, but that I was just a little old fashioned. teen talk for boring, I think). I got messages from straight talk telling me I was using too much bandwidth and that if I didn't slow it way down they would either charge me extra, or if the data usage was really really too much they would discontinue my service. Its not really false advertising, but it is sneaky the way straight talk advertises.

  • A. With the exception of @jewelsoftime, the answers here are somewhat misleading. You DON'T get unlimited high-speed data. You get 3GB of high-speed (including LTE) data per month but the speed drops to 2G after you use that data up. 2G is extremely slow and is good for email but little else. That said, this is still the best deal out there. I have been a customer for over a year and I highly recommend it.

  • A. NO NO NO it is not unlimited! It is a great plan if you just talk txt and surf the web but if you stream movies and shows it will eat up your data fast and surfing the web becomes super slow, pages take forever to load until you get back in wi fi then it's fine. I can watch 16 40 min shows then straight talk will send me a txt saying your data speed has been slowed down. So I watch how many shows I watch and mins of the shows. I have boring graveyard shift job w/ no wifi. It is a good plan just keep track of your streaming time and you will be fine.

  • A. The unlimited data is for 3gb of high speed data. if you use a program like PDA net to hook up the internet to your computer thru your phone it will use the 3gb in no time at all. After that you will only have a bare minimum of data speed. So slow it takes 5 minutes to get to a web page on your phone. I found this out trying to let my Granddaughter watch movies while I was babysitting. It would work for about a day and then the next day no go. So I called and was told the above. As soon as you renew your unlimited card you have another 3gb high speed data but be sparing with it. Data is not unlimited overall.

She has never had a problem and only is unable to get on when her 30 days is up. a simple refill of time and she is up and running for another 30 days.

  • A. I haven't bought service with a credit card in over a year, but when I last did they charged $45, plus 7% NJ state (where I live) sales tax, plus some Federal tax for 92 cents. If I buy service cards I still pay the 7% NJ sales tax, but I don't pay the Federal tax, so I save almost $1. However, Straight Talk is currently offering $2.50 savings each month if you charge to your credit card with their auto-refill program, so that more than offsets the Federal tax.

  • A. nine8102, Walmart will charge sales tax in those states and local jurisdictions that require sales tax be collected on phone cards whether one is purchasing online or at a store. Example, if I put my Washington state address in my online order, Walmart will definitely charge sales tax (plus another miscellaneous fee). If I put the address of the other state where I live half the time of the year (and actually the state where I declare domicile), there will be NO sales tax charged (even though that state has a sales tax, they do not require sales tax to be charged on phone cards). Again, it will depend on your location whether you get charged sales tax or the other miscellaneous fees I mentioned previously. Thanks.

  • A. savanna, there won't be any "hidden" charges ...in other words, I don't believe Straight Talk will try to "hide" extra charges from you. However, they are required to charge what your local jurisdiction requires. Straight Talk also does NOT charge an extra fee for using a credit card. Yes, in some locations (depending on the state, county, or city you're located), there can be sales tax charged and also some miscellaneous access fees (usually amounting to less than $2). Straight Talk (and/or Walmart) will only charge what your local jurisdiction requires. It's not a Straight Talk decision to charge sales tax or the amount to charge and they are not keeping any of those fees or taxes. In some places there will be no sales tax charged on phone cards or phone service even though there is a general sales tax in that state. I'll give you an example. I am a "snowbird" and spend time in two states. If I buy Straight Talk service in one state, I get NO sales tax or extra fees charged even though that states has a general sales tax as they do not require sales tax to be charged on phone cards. If I buy Straight Talk service in the other state, not only do I get charged sales tax but also a bunch of little access fess (911 access, miscellaneous regulatory fees, etc.). I now buy service from Walmart giving them my address in the former state as I save about a dollar-something a month. Or will buy a service card at a Walmart store in that state if I need one as no sales tax will be charged. Again, it will all depend on YOUR location.

  • A. OH YES !! unless you get the $45 30 day plan. My sister has another type phone. She is constantly buying minutes. For what she spends on minutes she could get this plan without the worries of running out of minutes. she could also surf the web and take much better pictures. Oh by the way, in another question someone wanted to know when they would be charged. I signed up for email. They alert me that my end date is on such and such a time and they will be drawing the amount from my account. Since I have auto pay at my bank, when they actually draw from account they send me a thank you note saying they have received payment telling me how much was charged. It is always the same.

  • A. Most definitely yes to both your questions, but its less important to view the $45 monthly plan for minutes since its intrinsically an unlimited voice plan regardless if the call is outbound or incoming. What is metered is the data, currently the plan is for 2.5GB at 3G of monthly data which isn't much since two NetFlix movies could soak that away. Blackberries and Androids regardless if they're prepaid respect data usage by downloading email summaries such as the title, sender, date and first few lines w/o automatically downloading embedded images like HTML email messages until you configure the phone to do so. Blackberries are no exception and most customary usage will be well served at 2.5GB at 3G. Even if the 2.5 limit is bleached, the device drops to "2G" which feels more like a cheap DSL line and still handle emails and most web traffic but streaming video and youtube will just cause tears and misery.

  • A. lynne, since your question is being posted under the $45 Unlimited Plan, the answer to your questions are: 1. Yes, you can call anywhere in the U.S. (plus Puerto Rico and USVI) whether it be long distance or local. 2. The unlimited minutes can either be calls you make or calls you receive. No minutes are used either way as this particular plan gives you "unlimited" minutes outgoing or incoming.
