Flags of Our Fathers 5 5 1 1
Awesome Book This book was terrific and I really enjoyed it. The Main Characters in this book John Bradley, Ira Hayes, Harlan Block, Rene Gaggon, Ed Strank, and Franklin Sousley. They were all flag raisers on Iwo Jima. Only three survived the ordeal and were greatly honored for being the flag raisers. The plot of this story takes place in many different places because the story jumps back and forth between the different places. Ira Hayes was the most unique character in the book and the most rebellious. He didn’t like the idea that everyone was making a big deal out of this whole thing. John Bradley was the most reserved out of all of them. He really didn’t want to talk about it at all. He didn’t even have the picture of them raising the flag hung up in his house because he didn’t want to glorify himself. The only time he ever talked about it was when he started dating his wife, but then he was really nervous about it. Harlan Block was a high school football player from Texas. His mom didn’t want him to join their army because of their religious beliefs. His dad was the only one that encouraged him to join the army and his mom was very displeased about it. Rene Gaggon was a man that took his life very seriously. He always encouraged the other men into keep on trying. Franklin Sousley was the simple country boy from Kentucky he was the person that kept everyone in their company calm and relaxed because he was the comic relief of the group. Ed strank was a general in the army along with them. He and his wife were very content with each other until they bought and started a cotton farm in Tuscan Texas. He and his wife’s relationship was struggling very badly. These friends saw their many friends fall and die right in front of them I can only imagine what that must have been like for them to go though. I recommend this book to anyone who loves war stories and a good book. 12/01/2007
