I was skeptical as to this product's efficiency. I could not believe how easy it is to use, and what good results came out of it. Very simple and straightforward, you use 2 sanding pads in successive order, then a buffing pad, and finally a fine buffing and compound. I was already amazed at step 3 of this process. When the compound was done, it was brand new looking. I used it on a 1996 towns and country that had hazed headlights. It was impossible to see through, and I could not see the light mechanism inside of it. It now looks like new. The drill attachment is a god sent. It made it really easy. It says to use a 1200-1600 RPM. Mine is 5000, I used it at half power and it was just fine. It would be nice to use at full power and not worry about overheating, but oh well. It is NECESSARY to wear mask and goggles, as there is a lot of dust/debris being created in the process. I would highly recommend this product to anyone, be it only for safety reason. I can now see further than 10 feet in front of me ;) Oh, just one negative: the buffing pad was missing. I used a clean rag, and it was fine like that. It might even be better if yours is included. The pack is really easy to pop open, so it could be that someone helped themselves before I bought it. Again no big deal.

Like most of the reviews here, I was impressed with the final results of 3M's kit. It does take a while to do but it is well worth the effort. You will see lots of yellowed or frosted headlights on cars these days. I really got sick of mine and how dim they were. I wish I had done this a long time ago. It is a huge savings over replacing the lens. They are like new now and I'm pleased with the additional lighting I get out of them. My restoration was on a 96 Grand Caravan. The plastic lenses on cars really need this restoration process after 10+ years of sun and abrasion. My only criticism, (and it is no doubt in vain), is that they could easily give you more sanding media or enough to do more than a pair of headlights but they don't. If you are careful, you can probably do 4 headlights with the materials in the kit that they give you, (Depending on how bad the lenses are). I do think 3M has developed state of the art sanding and polishing media.

This product stands far ahead of all the others. Plan on about 25 minutes a lens. If your dill is battery operated charge them up before hand and grab a spray bottle (empty Windex container or so forth for spray water). Take you time read the instructions and the lights will shine again.

My headlights look frosted over even though they should be clear. When you wet them they look clear but when they dry they go back to a dingy frosty fogged look and you can't see anything. Will this help or is the problem on the inside? Tried a cheap $6 kit and it did nothing to help.
    by an anonymous customer 9/16/2011
    • Yes -- mine were in the same condition and they are now crystal-clear. The product is amazing and well worth the price.

    • Yes, it will even correct any problem from the kit you used prior (if any) and completely remove the foggy, dingy look of the oxidized plastic. Don't rush through it, let the drill do the work (don't apply too much pressure) and keep the surface lubricated with water and your headlights will look as close to new as you could want when they are polished out.

    • This kit is made to restore the outside of your headlight. Usually the frosting is on the outside of the lens because of the weather elements. If the frosting is on the outside it will make them clear and look almost brand new.

    • I believe that it will. If the lenses feel rough it is probably the outside that is the problem. This will smooth and polish them, and they will be clearer. I used it on some very yellowed and rough lenses and it did great.

    • My headlights looked like what you are describing; patchy frosted places on the headlight lens that seemed to go away when wet. The kit restored the lens to a clear, like-new condition. Definitely would recommend this product.

    • It easily does 2 headlights with some of the first stage pads left over. If you really were extra careful, you might be able to do 3 but I think 4 would be a struggle. The last sanding pad (the polish pad) only has one in the kit, so I think that would be your limiting factor. Also depends on how bad your headlights are, as the worse they are the more sanding required.

    • In theory, you can do two lenses with one kit. However, severe scratches or wear will probably only get you through one.

    • I used a cordless drill on mine and just got the first headlight done with the kit. Ran out of the first sanding discs. My cordless drill was supposed to run at 1400rpm on high, but in hindsight I would say it doesnt' run that fast. I only got that one headlight done with the kit. I bought another kit, and another CORDED drill that does run at 1400rpm, and that second headlight went so much faster and easier. Amazing results. Really. Just make sure you have the correct tools and the time and patience to do it right. Others have reported that they do more than one car with one kit, so I'm assuming they had the right drill for the job.

    • I would say it depends on severity of the dullness of your headlights. My headlights were very dull and I used most of the sanding pads. I believe I have 1 left of each grade so I could probably do one more really dull headlight or 2 headlights that have minor dullness.

    • Depends on how bad they are. I dd 2 and have enough left for 2 more probably. For $15 bucks though its still cheap and it works great even if you only get 2 lights out of it.
