How durable is the tablet, as it will be used by young children? Does it make sense to spend an extra $40 for the Walmart warranty?

    • A. I did not purchase the WalMart warranty for this particular product and wish I did. I filed my warranty through the Cubby tablet company , Ematic, since they offer 180 warranty. It has been nightmare, several emails, forms and mailing of my product and no resolution. It has been 2 months and they're just giving me the run around. The screen is cheap, my son was pressing pretty hard and the internal screen is now distorted. You'd think something made for a child would be made a little more durable.

    • A. Our screen broke in a week, while riding in the car, in its case, with nobody and nothing touching it. So, there's that. Plus, it doesn't actually have 16GB of internal storage. It has 4.32GB total internal memory (before the OS and preloaded content) and around 6GB on an internal SD card, but that is full. You wind up with about 2.5 GB of available space out of the box.

    • A. Not really durable. Small drop cracked the screen (didn't fall on corners protected by bumper). Due to the cheap screen, the cracking prevents use making it a $100 paperweight. I would buy the warranty or see if you can find a better cover.

    • A. This is fairly durable . . . . not only dies the tablet itself have chunky rubber sides BUT it also comes with a huge rubbers protector that comes on and off . . . .it's kinds like a shock absorber. You still need to be careful but ours has dropped a couple of times and is still working.

    • A. I would purchase the $40 warranty through Wal-Mart. Or at the very least, by a screen protector. The tablet itself seems pretty durable (we haven't dropped it yet) but the screen is easily scratched.

    • A. Seems very durable. I would not spend the $40 when the tablet can be replaced for $99.

    • A. I've now dropped it a number of times and it seems very durable. However, for only $40, it may make sense to have a warranty for 2 years as you never know what may happen.

    • A. The tablet has a large silicone bumper designed to protect the tablet from the drops.

Perfect tablet for toddlers and kids

My son is almost 2, so on the younger side of the recommended age range for this tablet. He has had some experience with my tablet and phone though, and he had no problem figuring out how to use it. The Cubby comes pre-loaded with several games, activities, videos (TV episodes as well as music videos), recipes, instructions for crafts you can make inspired by your child's favorite Sprout shows, puzzles, and stories that can be read to your child or your child can read on their own if they are old enough. My son absolutely loves the Sprout channel and all the shows on it, so he was instantly excited to play with it. You just need wifi to set it up - setup is fast and easy and you just use your Gmail account. I love this tablet because you don't need to buy any other apps if you don't want to - the content that it comes with is more than enough to entertain and engage your child. You also do have the option though of downloading different paid Sprout apps, or exiting "Cubby mode" and just going to the Google Play store to download any other free or paid apps that your toddler might enjoy. There are also rear-facing and forward-facing cameras so your child can take pictures - I imagine my son will be more into this when he gets older. I did notice when checking out an app where you sing with the Wiggles, it uses the forward-facing camera while you sing also - I can't wait to watch my son try that one out eventually! This tablet is great because it will engage your child at many ages. At almost 2, my son enjoys watching the videos, playing some of the games, having the stories read to him, and coloring in the Crayola app. He loves that there are coloring pages featuring his favorite Sprout characters, but also with other cute pictures (like dinosaurs). As he gets older, he will be able to play more of the games and puzzles, start taking pictures, and eventually read the stories himself. There are also games that we are familiar with from the Sunny Side Up Show, like Dress Chica. When my son gets older he can create things and send to Sprout so that they might get featured on the show. We've only had the Cubby for a couple days, so I'm sure there is even more to discover. Some of the great features for parents include parental controls - when the tablet is in Cubby mode your child can only go to websites that you have added (default is Sprout only), and your child cannot purchase anything or exit Cubby mode without the password. You also have the option of setting up profiles for additional children if you have siblings that will be sharing. You can just switch the profile when they take turns. There is also the option to set up a time limit so you can control the amount of time that your child is using it. Overall I think this is the perfect tablet for toddlers and children, especially if they love the Sprout channel as much as we do! I haven't seen a tablet that comes with content like this that is really perfect for children. The tablet feels sturdy and comes with a rubber bumper to help protect it from falls - they really thought of everything.

I am very impressed by the hardware. I’ve owned/seen several tablets in this price range but this one is the best. The quality and texture are great and it doesn't feel cheap. My son is 6 years old. This is now his favorite tablet. He already has the ipad mini (restricted apps), so the transition to this tablet was seamless. He instantly knows how to navigate and play games or shows. I'd say any kid that already used a tablet or smart phone will do the same thing. This tablet is pre-loaded with great goodies like games and kids tv shows. It is already customized for kids straight out of the box. This saved me time installing apps and researching if the apps are appropriate for kids. The pre-loaded shows are also a big plus! In addition it has the standard google apps like Gmail, Google Maps, Play Books, YouTube, Movie Studio, Play Games, Vudu, Play Newsstand, Google+, Chrome browser and Google Play (under parent mode). I easily transferred most of his favorite games and apps from his ipad mini to cubby. Overall, it exceeds my expectations. As a parent from set up and especially having the peace of mind that I know what my son is watching and has access to. I couldn’t ask for more. The only comment I have is that the booting up takes few minutes, which is not a big deal to me.

    Not Fall Resistant!

My child had this tablet for less then a week, and the first time he dropped it the screen cracked and is no longer usable. I called and they wanted me to replace the screen for a whopping $80. Im so upset about how poorly this is child resistant.

I bought the Sprout Cubby for my two year old daughter and was very excited about it. It seemed to work fine the first night, but we've had problems with it ever since. It seems to reset itself daily and always takes at least 10 minutes to start up. It hasn't been dropped or damaged by water so I'm not really sure what the problem is. Based on other reviews, I may have purchased a defective unit. PROS: easy to hold, variety of apps/games that can be played without WiFi, YouTube, Gmail, battery life CONS: screen resolution, camera quality, tablet resets itself, startup takes 10+ minutes

the device offers enough strength to hold integrity at kid's drop. It has Android 4.4, KitKat, the latest release. Display apparently lacks of brightness because an extra layer of protection. Overall it worth the price when compared with similar devices, specially because it's featuring a Quad core CPU when the others offer a Dual core with similar speed.Yet, switching between parent and kids modes needs improvement. If one thing I would complain about, it is that it is advertised as with 16GB space, when it really has 8GB.
