About the author

Biography of Osborne, Mary Pope

Mary Pope Osborne grew up in a military family, and by the time she was 15 she had lived in Oklahoma, Austria, Florida, and four different army posts in Virginia and North Carolina. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she majored in religion. After graduation, she traveled around Europe and Asia. Before becoming an author, she worked as a window dresser, a medical assistant, a Russian travel consultant, a waitress, an acting teacher, a bartender, and an assistant editor for a children's magazine.

She is the author of the popular Magic Tree House series. Her husband, actor Will Osborne, helps her write the nonfiction companion series, Magic Tree House Research Guides. Many of her books have been named to best-books lists. In February 1993, she was elected the 27th president of the Author's Guild.

Rated 5 out of 5★ by 3reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Great for trips in the car Very engaging stories. We have been listening in the car. The kids are very quiet. 08/13/2008
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Exceptional books on levels 3.0 - 3.5. Grandchildren love Magic Tree House books! You can check the books out from the library and let the child/children listen to the author read these stories on CDs while looking at the words. This will increase their vocabulary even if they are on a lower reading level. 09/08/2013
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Economical I misunderstood what I was getting. I thought that I was getting the books to go along with the CD's; however, I am still pleased. 11/30/2010
