About the author

Biography of Paolini, Christopher

Christopher Paolini was born in Southern California on November 17, 1983, but grew up primarily in Paradise Valley, Montana. He was home schooled and at the age of 15, graduated from high school through an accredited correspondence course at American School in Chicago, Illinois. He decided to write a book and after three years of writing and editing, Eragon was self-published in 2001. The Paolini family spent the following year promoting the book themselves by giving presentations to the local library and high school and then eventually branching out to libraries, bookstores, and schools across the United States.

After his step-son read a copy of the book, author Carl Hiaasen brought Eragon to the attention of publisher Alfred A. Knopf, who acquired the rights to publish Eragon and the rest of the Inheritance Cycle in 2003. The other books in the cycle include Eldest, Brisingr, and Inheritance. Eragon was made into a movie in December 2006.

Rated 5 out of 5★ by great book! I loved this book. it's a little slow to begin with but picks up about 50 or 60 pages into the book. when i was done with this one i actually left work to go get eldest (second book in series) thats how good they are. I rate them right up there with the twilight saga and harry potter...which says alot. u should deff read this book. can't wait for Brisinger!! 07/28/2008
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Good Read good book 12/17/2008
Rated 1 out of 5★ by Not a good book I'm going to keep this short.Eragon is not a good book. The author failed to do even the most minimal amount of research necessary. His editors should have pointed that out.The prose and flow of the narrative is awful. Unreadable at points. Again, needs editors and a rewritePlot is taken almost scene by scene from StarWars (mostly, with bits of Lord of the Rings, Wheel of Time particularly in the 2nd book, and Earthsea) and thus anyone who's seen it will be bored as you know everything that's coming next. Really. You know who dies, who turns out to be a relative etc., etc., etc. Only, thus far, the elf princess isn't actually his sister.None of the characters does anything for any reasonable motive throughout the whole book. Things just happen because they did in Star Wars.Just don't bother. 09/17/2007
Rated 5 out of 5★ by GREAT SERIES Eragon. It is the first of four great books. The entire cycle( Eragon, Eldest, Brisinger(FIRE), and Inheritance are four of the best books ever( including Harry Potter). 03/28/2013
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Love it!!! This book may not meet expectations for people who read hard core fantasy novels, but for younger readers who are just getting into fantasy, it's awesome. I got the book a couple years ago, and have been just as enthralled in it as I have been with the Harry Potter Series, which is to say, a lot.For a boy who started is first epic novel at the young age of 15, I give this book five stars because it's amazing! The movie wasn't worth it though, it did no justice to the fantastic creativeness of the book. 02/09/2008
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Eragon is probably one of the best books I've ever read. It stands up there with Harry Potter and the Twilight Sega. It's full of mystery and intrigue and keeps the reader guessing. I love it. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that loves adventure. The plot was wonderful. The characters were well written. I'm upset that Brom died, but that didn't take away from the overall scheme of how the book actually made me feel. It kept me on the edge of my seat and I got lost in the pages. Definitely a must read. 01/20/2012
