    Not for High School Algebra!

    Customer review by ILOVEMATH

    5.0 stars by ILOVEMATH

I love this calculator- it has a lot of great functions for advanced math. However, it's not ideal for High School math- if you have an Algebra I or II student, stick with the 84 Plus Silver. Definitely geared for the college-bound, math-oriented student. I'm a high school math teacher, if that validates my review.

I am a mechanical engineering student and i found this calculator very useful for my classes. It has lots of good options to use to solve problems. I also downloaded ME Pro which has tons of mechanical engineering formulas, and information that is extremely helpful.

Great for High School Math Classes

    Customer review by Cookin88

    5.0 stars by Cookin88

My son used this for his high school advanced math classes (as his teacher recommended) and loved it. It was easy to use and worked perfectly. I am now going to buy another one for my next son moving into high school since we had such a good experience on the first one. I was also told that this calculator will serve him throughout his entire academic career even into college. Wal-mart had the best prices both times.

    • Check with the instructor, some will allow a TI-89, others won't because it can do the work for you. Meaning, the TI-84 won't solve equations, while the 89 will.

    • I bought my child the TI-83 for calculus last year. I hope this helps.

    • You can still do calculus only using the TI84; however, the TI89 will make it much easier. I have it, and I am in a sophomore level calculus class at college.

    • Yes, I'm a CS major as well, but just be sure that his mathematics teachers will allow him to use it on test. Ask first then buy.

    • The TI-89 has an interface for programming on the unit itself. You can actually program on it! The only problem that may occur is if the instructor will allow this calculator in class. It's absolutely perfect for calculus because you input the problem, it solves the problem easily. The graphing function is for all math from basic math to word problems all the way to differential equations and beyond.

i also have to take general algebra and also calculus.

    • This calculator or a HP 48-50 series. Although with HP calculators, they use RPN(Reverse Polish Notation) so you'll have a slight learning curve. You could go with a more expensive calculator like the TI Voyage 200 or track down a TI-92 online if you want. Those are excellent for engineering students but are restricted in most cases. Check with your instructors before buying one of those.

    • The TI92 Plus or the TI Voyager are the best, but they may not be allowed. Check with your professor. If not, the TI-89 Platinum will be the next best alternative.
