don't buy I have been soldering circuits for a while, and use a nice Weller Soldering station. Unfortunately when I moved away from home for college, I didn't bring it. For halloween I wanted to build a circuit for part of my costume, and bought this. I was only wanting to use it for this and maybe a few other small tasks. After less than 5 soldering joints, the tip of the iron got pitted and snapped off. I don't even know how it is possible. Needless to say, the soldering iron was horrible and I wouldn't even recommend it for a one time use. Especially do not buy if you are new to soldering. Borrow someone's soldering station so you can get a feel for how it should work. That way, you won't think soldering is as horrible as it was with this. 11/01/2011
Good for its price. This is a very basic iron, and is good for general wire and circuit repair. Because it's 30 watts, it's too strong for micro-sized circuits as it'll melt the plastic quite quickly. Also, because it's 30 watts, it's not strong enough to do 8 gauge or smaller wiring in a proper manner. Great for speakers, appliances, older video game/VCR Systems and small learning projects. Don't expect a long life from this, as it is NOT a sturdy product -- but it WILL get most things done well, if you understand how to solder properly; tinning is your friend.. :) 01/15/2012

Go somewhere else for a soldering iron. I purchased this soldering iron at my local wally world,I figured for the price I really couldn't go wrong.Boy was I wrong this thing is terrible the tip of it hardly gets up to the right temperature to even melt the solder more then likely you would ruin the component that your soldering before the solder melts.I just had to pull out the old one I have had for over 20 some years that worked a lot better with less wattage.I should of known better then purchasing it where I did but it was in a pinch figured I would save time.So if your in a hurry try another brand. 02/16/2012
