These bookcases were a snap to assemble. They took less than 5 min each & I got three of them. They are wider than I thought they would be too.

Not sure that this is really meant for books. It sways a little. Maybe some books/heavier items could be put on the bottom shelf. I have another one in my kitchen that has a 12-pack of dog food cans on the bottom. I measured the unit as 26 1/2 x 27 1/2. I have included pictures. I hope this helps.

Great Looking Organization on a Tight Budget

When ordering the corner "light oak" unit, the 3 shelf "light oak" unit or the 5 shelf "beech" unit - they ALL MATCH each other even though they say "light oak" and "beech". I bought 1 corner unit, 1 three shelf unit and 4 five shelf units. You DO NOT NEED a big car to load these boxes. All six boxes fit neatly in a VW Bug with room to spare. Way TOO EASY to assemble. People complained about the size. You just need to read the CLEARLY STATED dimensions on each product description to see if this is the size you want and need. They are GREAT ORGANIZATION for tight spaces. The black spacers are plastic but sturdy and look exceptionally nice. (Please see my photographs) On the close-up photo you can see the nice wood grain shelves and the black spacers. REALLY, NO TOOLS REQUIRED and I am handicapped. My sister who spends way too much money on high end furniture actually likes them too. They work well for me in my small home office. You cannot beat the price. ENJOY if you decide to Order. PS - One tiny draw back that is NOT a problem for me - - - As you can see from the picture I put my Canon Color Ink Jet Printer on the top shelf of the 3 unit shelf. When I send something to print at that printer the unit gently sways. Now my larger Samsung B&W Laser printer does NOT sway but does not fit very well on the unit so it sits on my corner desk top. PEACE.

was wondering if you put a shelf under each end of the door, would the shelves be strong enough to support the door? Thanks
    by an anonymous customer 12/10/2008
    • I don't think they would be strong enough, especially if you put a computer on the desk. I wouldn't do it myself. I think it would be too wobbly for most people.

    • I would say no to the shelving units. There are so many other ways you could go. Glass Blocks, 2 file cabinets. My niece used concrete paint on cinder blocks. Looks cool with her "door" desktop.

    • I don't think this book shelf is the right dimensions nor does it have the strength for what you need. It is made of particle board and plastic. Height is 27 1/2 inches, length is 26 1/2 inches and width is 11 inches. I think it is made to sit on floor holding books, cd's, dvd's, etc.

    • Each shelf is rated to hold up to 55 pounds. I think using it as the support for a "desk" would not be a good idea.

    • The shelves are 1/2 inch thick and are strong enough to hold a printer or 15 medium size hard cover books without bowing for me.

    • I think it would work with a hollow core door but I would put 3 or 4 of them under the door.

    • I would try it. But I think you might have a hard time keeping the door from sliding off the shelves. They are definitely sturdy enough though to try this :D

    • Can be used for the small microwaves. It won't handle the standard and larger microwaves. Be sure you check the measurements of the microwave to the measurements of the shelf. The shelves are sturdy but believe there my be other shelving systems that may be better for what you are looking for.

    • As long as it's standing against a wall, yes it could. I put my television on it and it stands just fine. However, it has to be against a wall

    • It depends on the weight of the microwave. I have a 3 in 1 printer on the top of mine. I have several hard cover/paperback books and cds below. I've had no problems with bowing.

    • not unless you put the microwave on the bottom shelf. It is sturdy but not enough to suppot that much whieght on the two top shelves with only having the plasic bars holding it together. the bottom shelf sits pretty much on the floor.

    • I don't think it is deep enough for a microwave oven. But it could hold the weight.

    • In my opinion, No. The shelves are very narrow and not thick enough to handle the weight of a microwave.

This will be going over a floor vent & I plan on getting a vent extension, but I need to know the height from floor to bottom of bottom shelf. Vent extension is 1 1/4"H so I need to make sure it will fit. Thanks, shoshana87
    by shoshana87 1/26/2009
    • There is no space between the bottom of the shelf and the floor. The bottom shelf sits on the floor.

    • There is only about 1/2 inch from the bottom of the bottom shelf to the floor. If it's sitting on carpet it would be almost flush with the carpet.

    • The bottom shelf is basically sitting on the floor. It has maybe enough room to slide a fingers width under it if that.

    • Don't think it would fit over a vent extension - not the ones I seen.

    • It has 4 little feet about 1" high. Definitely cannot put a vent extension under it.

    • Sorry but my shelves I bought are only about 1/2 inch off the ground. On carpet there is no room at all as the legs work their way into the carpet and the board is practically on the top touching the carpet. So I wouldn't count on using these shelves to go over a floor vent.
