I got this bike when it came out and had only one review, a very bad misinterpretive review. To the person(s) who badly reviewed this product, you need to actually do your research before you jump to conclusions about how this bike didn't meet your expectations when you got it. This bike met my expectations and will meet yours. -It was reasonably priced -Lightweight aluminum frame and very solid construction -BEEFY 29" wheel base -Assembly is very easy -Fixed gear is perfect (this bike is a dirt jump bike) The only modifications I made were to the seat and the chain and sprockets. I changed the seat to a more cushioned one and lubricated the gears and chain so there was no "creaking noises". Overall this bike is really good for anyone. As long as you're not shorter than 6 feet.

After greasing up the crank bearings and properly adjusting the chain, this bike is rock-solid. Find someone who rides BMX bikes if you can't do it yourself. Ditch the kickstand. Tighten the brakes (and everything). This is a 17" frame. None of the details say this. (18" tops). I'm 6'2", and this bike is small for me, but not uncomfortable. My gf loves riding it and I'm thinking of putting BMX handlebars on it. I bought it in the store for cheaper than the online price. I was pleased, as this paid for my gas$ to get to the store (I didn't know it was gonna be cheaper, but I just wanted the bike right now). I'd recommend this for anyone who wants to "dabble" in 29er bikes. This one's my first, but maybe I'll get a fancy one in a year and my gf can continue riding this one. It's a really handsome bike. Not too many moving parts too wear out. The tire size gives a real smooth ride. Get one.

i stumble upon this today, this is new for 04/2013, i couldn't find it on Google or the mongoose site. the geometry of the bike is similar to a dirt jump bike (not like the picture). Since I am a big fan of fixies/trial/dj bikes i find this to be a great Value. the weight is around 30lbs or less (shocking considering the size and price). the top bar is not as high pictured. see my picture below. the front gear has like 36, back has 16 or so. it has front and rear cable brakes.

This bike is great! Don't listen to this one bad review. It's single speed, and is durable like a bmx bike, even though its classified as a mountain bike. I am 5'10", so I had to adjust the seat all the way down. Otherwise, my feet wouldn't touch the ground. If you are short, then this bike is not for you. I ride on pavement in the city, so its perfect for urban travel.

This bike is more of a 29" BMX bike than it is a mountain bike. It comes with 36-16 gearing. That works out to about 65 gear inches. It is great for street riding but if you go off road it can be a bit hard to climb hills with. If you live in an area with hills you should get a 30t front sprocket for the bike. That will get you geared down to 54 gear inches and make life with hills much more fun. Where this bike really shines is that it is simply fun to ride. No gears to break, no shifting to mess up. It has a good, comfortable seat and a nice riding position. Being that it is a 29 it is not the strongest bike ever made. I would not take it out to the local skate park. It is however, more than strong enough to go trail riding. Just remember that it has 29" wheels and they can be bent if you abuse them. If you want a nice fun and simple bike to ride around with the kids on and you are taller than 5'6" you will be very happy with this bike. I am!

So is this bike a Fixie or just a single gear (where you can stop peddling and the bike will keep rolling) with handle bar breaks?

  • A. We know what a fixie is. This isnt it pal, and its not a flip flop hub, so your stuck with a singlespeed. Ps. They dont make fixie MTB's for obvious reasons of ground clearance for rocks. But you can build one, and you would have to buy this bike and then go to a bike shop and get a new rear wheel.

  • A. Not a fixie, just a single speed. The gearing is too tall for off-road, but good for road and path cruising. I'm going to put a 20t on the rear and see how it does on the trail. I expect the wheels to fail first.
