  • A. None of them that I know of. I also don't know of a Blu-Ray player that comes with one either. HDMI cables are dirt cheap to order online and super pricey in the retail stores. Order one online and get free site-to-store shipping and save a bundle. Don't be fooled! A $40 HDMI in-store cable might be more durable if plugging it in and pulling it out once a day, but the picture and sound will be no better than with the $6 cable. For a permanent or semi-permanent installation you are wasting money buying a high end HDMI cable! Digital cables either work or they don't. Unlike analog where cable quality actually matters, with digital it really doesn't matter. I think part of the reason you get to buy your own HDMI cable is because most of the Roku models are compatible with both SD and HD sets. The HDMI cable would be a waste for someone hooking it up to a 1995 Sony Trinitron and they'd be paying for something they don't need. Another part might be that no one length of cable suits every installation. At any rate, I would not let having to buy a $6 HDMI cable stop me from buying either of my Roku units. It is super important to point out that you posted this question on the item page for the Roku Streaming Stick, which plugs directly into Roku-Ready HDTV's and other video devices in a special jack on the video device itself. This item does NOT plug into a HDMI jack for example. It must be plugged directly into a ROKU-READY jack on a Roku-Ready device. There is no HDMI jack on this item and this product is compatible ONLY with video devices specifically designed to be Roku-Ready. The Roku Streaming Stick works ONLY with devices listed here: http://www.roku.com/streamingstick#roku-ready I love my Roku units! They saved me a lot of money.

Easy Setup. Flawless Playback. OK Interface

My Roku Streaming Stick was a self-selected purchase using a gift certificate. It's a great value by providing so much. The setup was eas. The playback has been solid, better than streaming the Net of Flix on my laptop, which always seemed to have trouble. Buying to Roku gave new life to my old flat-screen TV. All you need is an HDMI port and either a powered USB port or a nearby power outlet. (My TV is so old, I had to go with the latter option.) You also need the one-time patience to type in your WiFi password. I got the iPhone app, but find that I use the Roku remote: My phone goes to sleep and needs to be unlocked before I can use the app. The app, however, is good for setup. The on-screen Roku interface is a bit clunky. Using it has gotten better since I learned that the Up button has function on the home screen. It's not a standard interface feature I've experienced, so it took me watching someone else to know that there was more content, much sought-for content up there.

I Like Roku streaming devices. In fact I own two Roku 2 units for my Master bedroom and office. I purchased the new wireless stick at a higher price than the Roku 2's which I connect with HDMI cables. So far after about 6 weeks of use, the stick takes much longer to load, has lost the wireless connection at least 1/2 a dozen times and recently would not reconnect at all for several hours. All while viewing programs, movies, etc. Very frustrating. Of course I checked my internet connections which I have AT&T Uverse and subscribe to their Internet Max, and is only a room and hallway away from my Family room where the stick is installed. Even when it is an AT&T issue, when my internet comes back on line after a signal loss and I reset my router, the Roku Stick seems to be the last device to come back on line. I wish I had just stuck with the HDMI connecting Roku 2's! As with all Roku products, set up, use, and content are awesome! I love Roku, just not crazy with the wireless sticks so far!

I have used the stick for about 2 months and have had a Roku box for 2 years. Picture quality is what I expected. Setup up took some time but was intuitive. Two things bother me, though. Unlike my box, I have to double push the remote buttons regularly to get it to respond. I don't know whether it is sleepy or the remote is just not as good. Second, about 1 out of every 4 or 5 times I log into Netflix or Amazon, I get the purple screen of death (not intentionally a reference to Prince). It tells me I am not "authorised" (sic) to view the program. First, I despise the British spelling. Second, as a subscriber and Prime member, I am authorized. I have to reboot the stick and then it usually works fine. But that is at least once a week and annoying and I never have this problem with my box. So, the stick's okay but does seem like a cheap version of the box, which has nothing to do with other features like gaming which I never use on my box.

I love it, it gives you a lot wider choice of programming which means you have a greater choice of things to watch. Yes some of the choices you have does cost you a subscription fee, but it is unlike with any of the cable companies where you do not have a choice. If you want to pay a subscription fee you can but every week there are a lot of other channels for nothing offered. So all of the choices and what you want to watch are up to you. The Roku stick or any of the other Roku products gives you a chance to get into the streaming field and that is something that is being offered to you and the future of cable television. There use to be an old commercial out there on television that was used for a product that was being used for it's commercials, "Try it, you'll like it" and that is what I will say to all the people that read this message, both the new people and the people that are already a member of the streaming field. It's your choice and the right choice is to take it if you can.

The remote is lazy. It rarely works even though it has fresh batteries. It makes no sense that I push buttons but nothing happens for several minutes, then it's a delayed reaction and it goes through all the buttons I pushed and I have to wait for it to stop so I can get to the movie I want to watch. That doesn't guarantee it's gonna work because it works for a minute then it goes back to this delayed reaction mess or just quits on me. The stick is plugged into an outlet so it's not like the thing needs a minute to wake up but I still give it a minute to wake up before I start pressing buttons and I've had to re-pair the remote several times and unplug the power to the stick to get it to work. My Amazon Fire box never has a delay with the remote. It's just right. The only reason I got a Roku is due to not having Flixster anymore, it no longer works with Amazon but I have a lot of movies with them and Vudu so I had to get a Roku. Remotes have been around for how long and y'all haven't gotten it right yet, what's the deal?

I bought 2 of these and they do as advertised. The downfall to the Roku stick is in managing which Roku is allowed which content. We subscribed to HBO NOW and our 7 year old kid would have had access to soft XXX had we not checked to make sure we could block it (funny thing, I couldn't submit this review with the "p" word so I used XXX). If you subscribe to something like HBO NOW, it shows up on all your devices and you have no option to restrict access to it. The workaround is to create a whole new Roku account just for the sticks you want restricted (you just don't subscribe to it on the new Roku accounts). This works against easily managing several devices from one account and legitimate email from Roku starts to feel like spam. The Roku is also a bit slow and can at times feel like a slug but honestly it's a miracle stick and we'd highly recommend them and will buy more of them with no problem if we're in the market. I just wish they'd help centralize the management of several devices and sped it up a bit. It's just shy of perfect.

Streaming stick not as good as a box

I bought this a month ago and discovered that it does not work as good as a Roku box. It is plugged directly into the HDMI input on the back of my TV (as well as a separate power source); with that location it is difficult for it to receive the remote control signal. I'll have to basically stick my hand around the back of the TV for it to receive the signal. If your HDMI input is on the side of the TV and you can visually see it from where you are sitting and the remote has a direct line of sight, it may work fine. I have a subscription/app where I can stream live local channels, realtime. The stick seems to not be able to handle streaming live TV and after 20 minutes or so will freeze up and reboot. A Roku box sitting in the same room on the same wifi signal continues to stream this same live local channel without interruption. This is a constant result of my comparison between the 2 devices. Appears to stream the on demand apps OK.

We purchased the Roku Streaming Stick so that our kids could have the Roku 1 in their room, as the "other brand" streaming box simply didn't connect very well that far from the router, even with a high gain Cisco router. While the features are nearly identical, I like the Roku stick for two reasons. One, the smaller factor means a cleaner look and less wires, and two, the ability to use in wi-fi locations that require verification. We frequent the hospital and they recently changed their security settings so you have to accept a ToS (terms of service) and as such the Roku 1 and our other streaming box can't connect. The Roku stick can however, and this is a major plus. If I had to say anything negative, it would be that the wireless remote tends to disconnect often which isn't a big deal as I use the Roku app on my phone more often than the remote. Also it and the Roku 1 lag a bit in YouTube and Netflix, however these are the only two apps that seem to have issues.

Got the Roku stick for Christmas, currently own a version 2 box and a chrome cast (was a little tired of chrome cast limitations). Out of the box, easy to hook up.. but as soon as i started setup, we had trouble. First, the remote that comes with it, ABSOLUTELY GARBAGE. Didn't think that would be an issue, because we use our smartphones as remotes. You cannot complete the setup without the remote, so after three hours of trying to get it to connect to the Roku stick (including calling tech support), i gave up and moved our Roku box from the bedroom back into the living room. After a week, i decided to try to get it working again... remote connected for about 3 minutes, just in time to get the Roku stick setup, and it hasn't connected since. Has worked good so far with the smartphone remotes. I have removed batteries from remote and put it back in the box; if i have to do setup on it again.. I'll probably just throw it out and go buy another Roku box.

Before I purchased the ROKU, I did a lot o of research on streaming sticks. I wanted to get this right the first time. I have two different ROKU devices. I purchased them so that I could cut the cord with cable/satellite. In comparison to the other sticks the ROKU I found to be the best. It has HULU, Netflix, Showtime, HBO, AmazonPrime, justto name a few, various news and sports apps. Right out of the box it was easy to setup and connect to my ROKU account and setup on my home network. I like the fact that I have the option to use my phone as a remote with the ROKU. I was able to setup my Feed using my phone. Feed is your list of favorite shows and movies. Less than 10 minutes out of the box and it was up and working. It has a great selection of TV apps and games apps. It transition smoothly from one selection to another and is fairly quick. The remote works without any delay. I have friends who have the other sticks and I much prefer the ROKU. I highly recommend it.
