  • A. None of them that I know of. I also don't know of a Blu-Ray player that comes with one either. HDMI cables are dirt cheap to order online and super pricey in the retail stores. Order one online and get free site-to-store shipping and save a bundle. Don't be fooled! A $40 HDMI in-store cable might be more durable if plugging it in and pulling it out once a day, but the picture and sound will be no better than with the $6 cable. For a permanent or semi-permanent installation you are wasting money buying a high end HDMI cable! Digital cables either work or they don't. Unlike analog where cable quality actually matters, with digital it really doesn't matter. I think part of the reason you get to buy your own HDMI cable is because most of the Roku models are compatible with both SD and HD sets. The HDMI cable would be a waste for someone hooking it up to a 1995 Sony Trinitron and they'd be paying for something they don't need. Another part might be that no one length of cable suits every installation. At any rate, I would not let having to buy a $6 HDMI cable stop me from buying either of my Roku units. It is super important to point out that you posted this question on the item page for the Roku Streaming Stick, which plugs directly into Roku-Ready HDTV's and other video devices in a special jack on the video device itself. This item does NOT plug into a HDMI jack for example. It must be plugged directly into a ROKU-READY jack on a Roku-Ready device. There is no HDMI jack on this item and this product is compatible ONLY with video devices specifically designed to be Roku-Ready. The Roku Streaming Stick works ONLY with devices listed here: http://www.roku.com/streamingstick#roku-ready I love my Roku units! They saved me a lot of money.

  • A. The list of Roku Ready devices for the Roku Streaming Stick is posted on the Roku website here: http://www.roku.com/streamingstick#roku-ready It is a short list at present and there are no Sony sets on it at the moment of this writing, but could change by the time you read this. There are unique connectivity requirements with the Streaming Stick and a TV has to be built with the right jack for the Stick to work. With sets that are not on the Roku Ready list you should get a conventional Roku box unit instead of the Streaming Stick. The Roku box units are small and unobtrusive. I think I'd be just as happy with a Roku 2 or Roku 3 as I would be with the Roku Streaming Stick since there is no difference at all in performance. To help you decide on which Roku box to get here's some information. The top of the line one is the ROKU 3 model which does 1080p HD quality. The ROKU 3 has HDMI connectivity only so it only works if your TV has a HDMI jack as is usually found on a modern HDTV. The Roku 3 model is considered to be the best one. The ROKU 2 model series which includes the XS, XD, HD & LT models will connect to virtually any TV made since the 1980's. They will connect to a standard definition TV via RCA component type jacks using an included cable. Plus they will also connect to a HDTV via HDMI cable which is not included. If you have a 720p TV the Roku LT & HD models are both 720p capable. The differences between those two models are few such as the HD model having a slightly more functional remote and an SD Micro memory card slot. If you have a 1080p TV the Roku XD and Roku 3 models are 1080p capable, but can be adjusted in settings to use with a 720p HD display. The legacy model XS is also 1080p capable and while discontinued in the product line by the ROKU 3 model, some new XS units are still in retail channels at substantial discounts over their original 99 dollar cost. The Roku 3 has the earphones that plug into the remote, which is a great feature. If you are planning to use the Roku gaming functions then get the Roku 3 model or the legacy Roku 2 XS model since they have the gaming remote needed for that. If you have an HDTV be sure to get an HDMI cable with the Roku unit as you'll want one for high definition video quality and the HDMI cable is not included in the box. If you use the included component type cable with a Roku 2 series unit and connect it to a HDTV you will get standard definition quality which will be fuzzy looking compared to high definition. HDMI cables are much cheaper to order online than to buy in retail so I'd order one online.

I Like Roku streaming devices. In fact I own two Roku 2 units for my Master bedroom and office. I purchased the new wireless stick at a higher price than the Roku 2's which I connect with HDMI cables. So far after about 6 weeks of use, the stick takes much longer to load, has lost the wireless connection at least 1/2 a dozen times and recently would not reconnect at all for several hours. All while viewing programs, movies, etc. Very frustrating. Of course I checked my internet connections which I have AT&T Uverse and subscribe to their Internet Max, and is only a room and hallway away from my Family room where the stick is installed. Even when it is an AT&T issue, when my internet comes back on line after a signal loss and I reset my router, the Roku Stick seems to be the last device to come back on line. I wish I had just stuck with the HDMI connecting Roku 2's! As with all Roku products, set up, use, and content are awesome! I love Roku, just not crazy with the wireless sticks so far!

I got this for Christmas this past year and so far, I really enjoy it. The device works really well for what I've used it for. My major complaint would be that the remote is 1 step above useless, and I've found that I'm more inclined to use my phone than fiddle with it (which I'd prefer not to have to use my phone - that's why I got a Roku and not a Chromecast). I also noticed yesterday that the NBC Channel did not have all of their shows listed for some reason. I was trying to catch up on Biggest Loser but I never found the show on the listing. I've also found (and been told by other Roku Stick owners) that you should use external power and not your TV USB. This is because the software takes a bit to load up and if it's plugged into your wall and not the TV, it just stays on. It doesn't use enough power to concern myself with, so I'll save the time on the boot up and leave it running. Overall, very satisfied with the product and I do recommend the purchase.

Love Roku streaming sticks

I recently bought my second Roku streaming stick. Now I have one each for the family room and master bedroom TVs. I originally started with a Roku 2 but after a couple of years bought a stick and then another stick a year later because I liked it so much. On my 42" inch TV, I was initially had some buffering but that fixed that right away by plugging it into the wall socket instead of TV. But on my smaller TV, it's plugged directly into the TV without any buffering issues. I love the flexibility of moving the stick to different TV's if you want and the fact that there's no box sitting on the TV cabinet so less clutter. I love Roku products and have been able to downgrade my cable service to basic only because there's so much available through Roku and its partners. And I am now using RCA digital antennas instead of cable boxes on two of my three TV's now because I objected to the cable company charging me every month for the two extra cable boxes. I love Roku!

Streaming Stick vs. Roku 3

I have the Roku 3 for my living room and wanted to get another streaming device for my bedroom. I was going to get another Roku 3, then my younger sister (college student) said the Streaming stick is just like the Roku 3 as far as the interface. So I went with it. I like that I can take the stick with me on vacations, but what I don't like, especially since I have the Roku 3, is that the streaming stick is MUCH slower than the Roku 3. My sister would have never known that she is missing out on getting to netflix faster cause she doesn't have anything to compare it to, but it takes sooo long waiting for Netflix, hulu, etc. to load with the stick. If you're old enough to remember, its like having dial-up internet from back in the day. If you like to get to things fast and get irritated with waiting for things to load, get the roku 3. But if you are a broke college student, traveler, or rarely intend on using your streaming device, i'd say get the stick.

Before I purchased the ROKU, I did a lot o of research on streaming sticks. I wanted to get this right the first time. I have two different ROKU devices. I purchased them so that I could cut the cord with cable/satellite. In comparison to the other sticks the ROKU I found to be the best. It has HULU, Netflix, Showtime, HBO, AmazonPrime, justto name a few, various news and sports apps. Right out of the box it was easy to setup and connect to my ROKU account and setup on my home network. I like the fact that I have the option to use my phone as a remote with the ROKU. I was able to setup my Feed using my phone. Feed is your list of favorite shows and movies. Less than 10 minutes out of the box and it was up and working. It has a great selection of TV apps and games apps. It transition smoothly from one selection to another and is fairly quick. The remote works without any delay. I have friends who have the other sticks and I much prefer the ROKU. I highly recommend it.
