Several months have passed since Tony's Armory was destroyed and he is desperately trying to get his life back together. Gene Khan has forced Howard Stark to fly across the globe, searching for a sixth Makluan Ring. Meanwhile, Tony perks up when Pepper and Rhodey inform him that Justin Hammer,the world's youngest industrialist, has moved his base of operations to New York. For the first time in months, Tony dons the Iron Man armor and flies in to spy on Hammer and Stane.

Whiplash delivers Obadiah Stane to Mr. Fix along with pieces of Tony's armor. With the armor, Mr. Fix creates his disruptor cannon: a microwave emitter capable of deactivating the Iron Man armor while frying the operator inside. Justin Hammer has Mr. Fix rematerialize the Living Laser, but the project doesn't go as planned when the Laser splits into two separate beings. The Dark Half, goes on a mindless rampage, while the Light Half seeks out Iron Man for help. Hammer is set on using the Living Laser as a mindless weapon which Hammer Multinational can mass produce. Tony aims to teleport the two halves back together and fuse them into a whole but time is running out.

At wits end, he finally crosses the line and hires the nefarious... Ghost. Ghost is able to gain access to the armory and takes photos of Tony removing his armor. Now, Ghost has evidence Tony Stark is Iron Man!

Furious, Tony decides to invent "Negator Packs", which will corrupt the armor's advanced circuitry. The media slams Iron Man for going rogue and Rhodey warns him about his poor public perception, although Pepper fully supports him.

Movie Summary
