Suzanne Collins continues the amazing story of Katniss Everdeen in the phenomenal Hunger Games trilogy.
Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy. After all, they have just won for themselves and their families a life of safety and plenty. But there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects, and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are the faces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge.

Review by Library Journal (2009-06-22)

Stephen King meets Dr. Zhivago. I am being less than fair in promoting the much-anticipated sequel to Collins's The Hunger Games (see my 2008 Best of the Year list) when it will not be out until September. My only excuse is that it gives the uninitiated a last chance to read the first book before this one climbs to the top of the children's best-sellers list. (Add yourself to your library's holds queue now!) The story takes place in a future world where teens are made to compete to the death in an annual tribute called the Hunger Games.

At the conclusion of the first volume, the games' victors face an uncertain future at the hands of a cruel Capitol. All I will say about the second is that it is as much of a page-turner as the first and leaves the reader even more desperate for what comes next. Why It Is for Us: If heart-stopping adventure is not your cup of tea, consider reading The Hunger Games and Catching Fire for their winning characters and epic themes of oppression, rebellion, and love. Collins cannot write the third book fast enough.

Rated 4.7 out of 5★ by 3reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5★ by Worth The Read! When I first heard of the Hunger Games, I had no interest at all. I wasn't like most bandwagoners that automatically tagged along with the book and eventually the movie. I starting reading the first book, just becuase of an indepedent reading project I was assigned in my english class. I ended up enjoying it and I got with the Hunger Games flow. As my final independent reading project, I decided to choose the second book, Catching Fire becuase of my experience with the first book.In Catching Fire, Suzanne gives you a different aspect of Hunger Games, and Pamen. After Victors, Katniss and Peeta return back home, they belive that chaos is over, and that the games are done for now. The next obstacles they face are the threats announced by President Snow. You have a different seat in all the action, no longer on the Hunger Games fields, but in the districts. Catching Fire is packed with suspense and action, and a bit of romance confusion. At the end, you'll always find yourself at the edge of your seat, waiting to turn to the next page of this incredible adventure.I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interest in fiction, fantasy, or anyone who has the Hunger Games crave. I would also highly recommend reading the book series before watching the movie, and the upcoming one for the second book. I am looking forward into reading the third and final book, MockingJay. 05/29/2013
