Great Home Phone

I have owned this Wireless Home Phone since March 2013. I haven't had any problems with making and receiving calls. Plug this unit into a wall outlet and plug your landline phone into the unit. Call customer service to activate. That's all to it. No internet needed. It works great. This is the first time that I've been satisfied with owning a home phone, and the first time since 1979 that I have had a $15.00 phone bill. Thanks Straightalk!

Customer has been confirmed to have purchased the item from Walmart.

The telephone has a lot of static and it is very hard to understand people. On speaker phone forget it, you have no idea what others are saying... I would not recommend this as I am very disappointed with it's operation.

Features include Caller ID. The only problem is "Straight Talk Wireless Home Phone service is not currently compatible with calling name delivery..."

Good But Beware Of International Calls

Nationwide Calls: Fantastic. Better than having VoIP phones. International Calling: BEWARE!!!! Straight Talk advertises "free unlimited calling" to many destinations (including Dominican Republic and Mexico). This is what I discovered: Mexico -including to cellphones: Calls were connected easily. No issues detected. Dominican Republic (Land-lines Only): Unable to connect. Not one of the numbers I tried to call were connected, including the calls to the American Consulate in Santo Domingo. This morning I contacted Customer Service and asked them about this issue and the ST representative could tell me was "Sorry but those numbers in Dominican Republic cannot be called". I told the representative to contact the appropriate department of their company and tell them to list the Dominican prefixes that can be reached with Straight Talk Home Phone or, otherwise, remove the name "Dominican Republic" from their calling destinations advertisement because that represents a misleading add.

The only real issue I had was with the delivery by Walmart. It was ordered online. When we received it, it hadn't been "activated" by Walmart before it left the distribution center. We didn't realize that and held onto it until we were ready to switch, 60 days later. When we attempted to activate it with Straight Talk, the phone's id wasn't in their database, since Walmart didn't process it correctly. Took it back to Walmart and was informed it only had a 15 day return policy. In the end, Walmart made it right and exchanged the unit with a new one. I've been using it for almost two months as my business line in my office. I've been overall pleased with the service and reception. It uses Verizon Wireless lines in my area and we have very good reception on them. Getting ready to replace the home phone with another of the same unit as well. We'll end up with essentially the same features and twice the lines as our bundled service from Verizon Residential service.

  • A. Since this uses cellular towers (Verizon) you would have service where Verizon has good cell service. Being inside of a car could possibly diminish the power to and from the cellular towers. Placing the box on the back window ledge could possibly help with reception due to the antenna being able to get a good signal. A small adapter that plugs into your accessory outlet will allow you to plug in and not have to rely on the short life of the rechargeable straight talk home phone battery, Using a simple plug in telephone will not use much power from the base unit so, you will in essence be using the phone like a portable cell phone. If there is reception, it will work. As with any phone company, Verizon is not available everywhere but, it is available almost everywhere....

  • A. Yes, anywhere there is cell phone service. Lorelero wrote in a Review 11/28/13: Live in Houston, came to visit my daughter in Abilene for the week and brought it with me. I plugged it in and made calls with no problem. Love it. I don't think you'll be sorry if you buy it.

  • A. Yes. The ST Home Phone has the following features: "$15/30-Day Home Phone Unlimited* Nationwide Calling. Local and Long Distance Calling includes voicemail, caller ID, 3-way calling, call waiting, call forwarding, E911 and 411 at no extra cost." Only disappointment is that Caller ID delivers the caller's number only, no name... so far. I'm hoping they add the name at some point in the future? You have to set up voicemail for 1st use, then you access your voice mail messages with *86. Call forwarding is activated by dialing *72 followed by the other tel. number. It's deactivated with *73.

  • A. To reduce confusion from my multiple answers, I decided to combine them into ONE, as follows: I took my ST Home Phone box downstairs where I have two unused house-wired tel. jacks in different rooms. In one room, I connected the ST box to a house-wired jack. In the other room, I connected a wired tel. to a house-wired jack. On ST battery power only, I picked up the receiver on the wired phone and got a normal dial tone, then successfully made calls, one to my T-Mobile cell phone. I think this means someone can do the following, as a minimum: 1. Connect the ST box to one house-wired jack and use all other house-wired jacks for wired telephones. For a wired system using existing house tel. wiring, this means you can connect the ST box ANYWHERE on a wired jack! 2. Or... Use both house-wired jacks AND a wireless system base, each plugged into one of the two tel. jacks in the back of the ST box... a combined wired/wireless system with phones EVERYWHERE! 3. OR... Don't connect to any existing house-wired jacks and use the ST box with only a wireless system like I have... 7 telephones with ONLY the base/answering machine connected to the box. This means you should not let anyone mess around with your existing tel. wiring... that old 20th Century wiring may be useful for today's modern tel. equipment! -:) Only two "odd" things I ran into when using house wiring: 1. No ringing when I called my cell phone while it was OFF... my call went directly to my cell phone voice mail. Once I turned my cell phone on, it rang normally. I guess you could say that's an "advantage" since it's a good way to know, in advance, if someone has their cell phone off or on at the time you make your call!? 2. When I ended my call to my cell phone, turning my cell phone off first gave me the bring-bring-bring tones like for a disconnected call. No problem, just an odd thing. Obviously, if I had hung up my phone connected to the ST box FIRST, I wouldn't hear those sounds. Duh! Thanks for the great question... something I also had wondered about but never had a need to try!

  • A. Corrected Answer: My original Answer stated that I plugged the ST box into an existing tel. jack in my basement, then plugged a std wired tel. into one of the jacks on the back of the ST box, but then I realized that didn't test the in-house wiring. So... I found a 2nd in-house jack and plugged my std wired tel. into a DIFFERENT jack in my house. This means the ST box is connected to one existing in-house jack and a std wired tel. into a 2nd in-house jack. IT STILL WORKED! I can only assume that other telephones plugged into other, existing in-house jacks would also be able to connect to the ST box, which is ALSO connected to one jack in the house's existing wired system. The ST box is apparently receiving the signal from in-house jack(s) just like a wireless tel. system does thru its base unit.

  • A. In my 1st Answer, I have an "odd" item #1 which said there was no "ringing" when I called my cell phone while it was OFF. To clarify, that means there was no "audible" ringing like you normally hear, but the call WAS connected to my cell phone's Voice Mail system (apparently after the normal number of "silent" rings). When I re-called my cell phone with it on, all was "normal," with audible ringing, etc.

  • A. YES! This was an interesting question, so I had to try it. I took my ST Home Phone box downstairs where I had an open tel. jack, connected only within my house since I now have only Uverse internet, no tel. service connected to my home jacks. Using only the battery power from the ST Home Phone box, I connected a tel. wire between the jack downstairs and one of the two tel, jacks in the back of the ST box. Then I connected a std telephone to the other jack in the ST box. I got a normal dial tone and successfully made calls, even to my T-Mobile cell phone. Only two "odd" things" I ran into: 1. No ringing when I called my cell phone while it was OFF. Once I turned my cell phone on, it rand normally. I guess you could say that's an "advantage" since it's a good way to know, in advance, if someone has their cell phone off or on at the time you make your call. 2. When I ended my call to my cell phone, turning my cell phone off first gave me the ring-ring-ring tones like for a disconnected call. No problem, just an odd thing. Obviously, if I had hung up my phone connected to the ST box FIRST, I wouldn't hear those sounds. So... make sure no one messes with your internal wiring when you call the OLD (traditional) phone companies to disconnect service from them. Thanks for the great question... something I also had wondered about but never had a need to try!
